I have found so much relief for my legs at night that my sleep is so much better. Dispensary workers are very helpful in recommending specific types based on my symptoms. I prefer to vape the oil because it’s quick acting and takes very little to eradicate symptoms. I might try the tincture to see how it works though!

Here in AK.,Marijuana consumption is legal in all forms now. I have tried every form you mentioned with smoking and vaping being favorites. Drinking a tea is nice as well. It has definitely helped in all aspects of my MS. I prefer a hybrid that is Indica dominant b/c INDICA’s seem better for pain and spasms, but a pure strain makes me too dopey, tired, etc... On the opposite end of the spectrum, a SATIVA pure strain if GREAT for mental acuity, energy etc... but can cause paranoia, anxiety and heart palpitations for me. So the hybrid is hands down the winner unless it’s bedtime. As a retired healthcare professional, it took me a long, long time to be comfortable w/ MJ as medicine b/c of the stigma. But it is so much better for me than opioids would be! I appreciate your willingness to look into and stay on top of MJ & it’s potential for help in MS. Thanks again Dr. B.

yes, I have similar assessment, I find sativa an interesting foray into my mind. Indica bit superior for alleviating pain.

I've been using marijuana to help with my symptoms for about 6 years now and I still struggle with fighting the stigma. Its a hard one. It helps immensely and is no doubt a medication but the wide spread and negative outlook of the majority of people has me feeling self conscious about my use of it. I won't be stopping use, but the feeling remains.

I have used it for my MS for many years. For lack of time explaining why I use it to family and friends, I just tell them that if nothing else it distracts me from all the pain from MS. I can't imagine not having it. Thank you for your support in this matter.

Agree totally. I must deal with VA AND the ridiculous rules of my state. One makes access impossibly stupid with so many regulations to follow and restrictions on purchasing options. Federally class 1 (VA) REFUSES not just MMJ, but any controlled med for MS pain. So I found a "friend ", who fixed me up. And told VA my use of MMJ was on them for failing to treat my MS pain. Yeah, I'm not popular around VA docs, but other vets love me. Don't have to wonder why.

Marijuana has definitely helped with the nerve pain that the reg pharmaceuticals don’t even touch. Since getting my medical card I have been exploring my way through the different types & strengths to see what works best for me. So far I have enjoyed a variety of edibles & vape pens which have been far more enjoyable than smoking it. Getting my medical card was definitely worth it, thanks Dr. B.

Greetings, Dr. Foster, I personally prefer to eat edibles, I am afraid of carcinogens or anything that might be like smoking marijuana, anything that even alludes to cancer is not a promising look however, I have multiple sclerosis. So it has helped me with anxiety and depression so I have to say thank you because I love to watch your videos. This is Justin Young signing off.🎉🎉

Hi Dr. Boster! I live in NJ and have been in the Medicinal Marijuana Program for the last 5 years (since it began). The cost for the license, the RX refills and the products are pretty expensive. I normally purchase some bud, and oil cartridges for vaping. I get great relief from both. But In this day of coved-19, I wish they had tinctures and gummies at my dispensary. Anyway I love your videos! You are helping so many people navigate through this horrible disease. THANK YOU 🙏

I tried it and noticed huge differences. Except I smoked it. I had a lot more energy with certain strands and slept much better with others. Something I noticed is my eye sight cleared up almost immediately after smoking. Leads me to believe that it's anti-inflammatory even when smoked.

My neurologist and pain doctor does random blood tests. I asked their opinion concerning cbd one day and I was told that they would immediately drop me as a patient if I tested positive. I was shocked that they were so hostile for me even asking the question.

Meanwhile CBD isn’t even psychoactive. It’s only thc that is. Thats awful close mindedness. But you know if you get a CBD isolate oil that says right on the bottle ZERO THC, that’s not going to come up in a cannibas test. 99 percent of the time the tests are only look for thc the ingredient that gives the high not CBD. Unless they are specifically testing for CBD too but that’s very rare but I guess possible if they’re that crazy bout it. But be safe wouldn’t want you to jeopardize your health care. Good luck.

I started using marijuana to help my symptoms about 6 years ago. I personally only medicate at night to help with sleep and occasionally once or twice during the day if I'm experiencing a very hard ms day. I was having debilitating spasms where I couldn't even move without half of my body going into a full and very painful convulsion that lasted for a few minutes at least. My preferred way to use marijuana is smoking it for a few reasons, the first reason being how quickly it works, secondly I find it so much easier to control my dose this way. I had a scary experience with and edible from a dispensary where the first few times I had taken a piece of this brownie was fine, I thought I learned my dose on it, then the last 1/4 of the brownie must have had a concentrated amount of the medicated butter and I was far, far more influenced than I had experienced with the rest of the brownie(I was only taking quarter sized pieces of the brownie)and having been a new patient I was very disoriented and thrown off. Vaping is effective and an acceptable alternative to smoking but the dosing is still harder to pinpoint and also I've noticed smoking has a superior affect on my pain than vaping even when using the same strains. I really hope marijuana is moved off of the schedule 1 list federally. Its medical use is so widely applicable and effective I feel it could help so many patients with so many different ailments.

I've toked since I was 21. "Recreational?" Nah, just liked the buzz. Now with SSPMS, I puff because it helps with distraction and relaxation. Is it a gateway drug? iDK, but I do know I don't need any other pain med when I'm ripped. I'm 70. Guess I'll wait to see if it's a gateway. Somehow I don't think so 🤔

I make my own cannabis cold-infused olive oil to control spacicity. By making it myself, I control the dosing and pour a teaspoon over my food or in my coffee, etc. Very rigid with my diet so no store-bought edibles. Difficult to control when it hits and how long it lasts but definitely less side-effects of inflammation and cough. I also vape the flower, in between, since the medicated oil does not work quickly. I have also put it into capsules so I can just pop a couple w/o eating.

I have "some" experience with cannabis. And I would definitely say smoking is not the fasted way to experience the "high". Vaping takes like 30 sec to come on. You vape and your basically high straight away. Also I would definitely not recommend eating, the experience from eating is more like tripping then the relaxed smoking/vaping high. Tripping can go wrong quick, you can spiral into some weird psychotic mind states. Using edibles should only be considered when you have explored what cannabis does. I have seen eating go seriously wrong in new users. Only recommended when you want to deepen your experience with cannabis. Otherwise the psychotic mind state will deter you from ever using it again. As for the benefits on my M.S. I don't suffer severe spasticity or pain as part of my M.S. experience. Cannabis does help me relax, and my reasoning is: A relaxed mind state will bring a more relaxed immune system. I use it like my vit. D, I don't over do it even though I consider it beneficial. A little of my background: I was born and raised in Amsterdam, I consider myself quite experienced with the whole cannabis thing. It was part of me growing up, and now it's part of my M.S. experience.

About a year or so ago, I tried looking in the literature for peer-reviewed research regarding a relationship between marijuana use and cognitive decline in MS patients. Unfortunately, I found very little and what was there involved very small sample sizes. For MS patients with cognitive deficits, I hope more research is done in this area since we would have to weigh pain-relieving benefits of marijuana with increased cognitive deficits.

Hi Dr. Boster! I’m a California M.S. patient, I vape and use edibles. The vape system I use is called “Moxie” it’s a combination cbd and thc, the ratio I use is 1cbd to 2thc, this is for spasm which goes dystonic the vape helps knock it out and I then follow with a 2 to 5 mg edible to help keep it calm and hopefully to ward of a storm eeek! I hope this helps, I know for me it helps and it kinda makes me giggle my way thru instead of hating it so much!

I have been using medical cannabis for several years now so I'll add my antidotal evidence to your data. I smoke cannabis but would switch to vape if I could. It helps the spasticity and pain for sure. With cannabis I no longer need Backlofen. I mostly use sativa and find it a great way to fight chronic fatigue and mood issues. Biggest problem I have is dosing can vary dramatically between strains and even single batches. There is also a issue of tolerance which requires me to fast periodically that gives me some withdrawal irrability. I have also noticed some increased issues with short term memory and some worsening of cognitive fog at heavy doses. I have found it a net positive but feel with further research and better dosing and administration including thc/cbd ratio it could be my go to medication for me but in it's current state needs some more work to make it work long term. Thanks for the Ms content

I have MM in Minnesota. Both registering for the card and the products are very expensive. I have tried capsules, tincture and balms. I declined to smoke or vape because I am a former smoker and I do not want to tempt myself to start that again. I have tried various combination of THC & CBD. Nothing has helped my spasms, pain or mood. 😢 I'm glad it has helped others.

Hi! Let me start by saying Thank You for making your videos. I'm still working on a diagnosis, but it's painfully obvious to everyone, we just need the right images. "Official" or not, my symptoms are still happening and this channel has become my go-to for learning about MS and how to live with it from a doctor's perspective and I LOVE that. It's like a seminar for medical laymen and I am all in. Given that, what I need is a layman's version of the lecture you gave about endocannabenoids. I'm not a stupid person, I just use medical marijuana, have a chronic illness and stay at home with my kids, so I just don't have the cognitive energy to be able to listen to what I am sure is a fascinating lecture, unfortunately. Could you do a video like this MMJ Recommender but about your lecture? Or do you have a transcript?

It eases anxiety for me, but the side effects on my life are too severe. I get demotivated; I find it impossible to meditate;I have trouble concentrating, and my cognitive abilities are greatly hindered. Also, strains that are sativa-dominant seem to worsen certain symptoms, such as twitching and a muscle spasm that happens, strangely enough, in or near my ears. So, I wish it worked. I have a long history with it/-Smoking, dry vaping, oil vaping, and edibles. Any kind of inhaling makes my lungs hurt. Oil vaping feels a bit like frying my lungs (hot oil? Probably is frying them a bit). Edibles seem to help, with the least side effects. I’m not sure any forms help with MS symptoms. Instead, I think they help me relax a bit so I’m not cringing and bracing and miserable. That’s worth a lot. Pain is inevitable; suffering is optional. MMJ helps me with the latter, at the expense of creative, material, and spiritual activities. Nice video. 🙂

I have vaped but it’s such a pain in the butt. Haven’t had edibles yet but my GP says that would really help with other issues as well. I smoke. It works after one or two hits and the stuff you can get today is so much stronger that not much is needed. There is that frustration that if I leave PA I could be charged with whatever each state has for their my laws. It helps with pain, sleep, mood and irritability. I live in a senior high rise that has rules against illegal drug use. Most of my neighbors know and are ok with it but there is always someone who knows nothing about mmj and tries to start a double. The card saves me,. Then there is the new rule, no smoking in the building due to a death from fire in one apartment a year before I moved in. As well as no smoking on the balcony but ever does anyway.

It's legal where I live in Maine, but doctors do not like patients using because they do not know how it interacts with other medications. I have tried it for neuropathic pain and spasiticty when all else failed, it helped tremendously. I've tried smoking it, but I have asthma and allergies so that gave me a nasty sinus infection. Never vaped or used drops. Edibles were great and worked for neuropathic pain and spasticity. However, more information needs to be done on proper dosage. In my opinion edibles are the strongest and worth the wait. A down side to edibles are the smell and dirty looks in public when people smell it on you. Yes, edibles make you smell like weed not as strong as smoking it but you will smell a little Cheech and Chong.

Lots of others in Iowa didn't renew their cards for the same reason. Our governor always shuts down the paperwork that comes to her.

Smoking cannabis helped me with the acquired nystagmus! Works much better than Gabapentin in terms the quality (clear like I’ve never had nystagmus), but I’ve done a mistake ! I’ve mixed the cannabis with tobacco in order to minimize the high effect... that resulted in the transition to SPMS ! What’s crazy is that it was for just 1 year! I’m always feeling guilty about that! Now I’ve stopped smoking at all!

I decided to try extra strength CBD capsules, it was working remarkably well for a few months (yes, expensive!) but I was a bit unsure of appropriate dosage- if another extra strength would be appropriate for night time. I have contacted the dispensary in hopes of finding out how to read the label, to get a better sense of what "extra strength" really means. Either way, I feel like the Efik as he has gone down over time some considering just stopping and seeing what the (what i call) *baseline body behavior* ends up being. Thanks for your great videos!

Edibles usually take about an hour to kick in for me on average and have the best results. Vaping usually takes about 15 min but helps for a decent amount of time. Smoking works fastest but doeant help as many symptoms.

I am a recovering alcoholic of 20 years, and was diagnosed with MS in 2015. I have horrible neuropathic pain and spasticity in my legs and feet and my hands are now beginning to show signs of the same. Can the CBD oil help with these issues? I also have heart and lung issues, too. Thank you so much for your very informative videos! I’ve subscribed and look forward to watching and learning about MS.

a lot of prescription medicines long term can lead to side effects as well. A lot of the negative side effects with cannibas seem to happen in people who start under age 25 while the brain is still developing.

Agree though more research def should be done ASAP especially with cannibas become legal even recreationally for people without illnesses.

I have severe spasticity; my Nuero dx’d me with Stiff Person Syndrome after testing showed elevated anti-GAD. MS and SPS: what a combo. Enter new neurologist. He, in Consultation with an MS specialist and other neurology colleagues, determined that the spasticity was from MS. That’s actually good news because SPS is nasty. Baclofen does not work for me. I presently take 45 mg of Valium a day +18 mg of tizanidine, and even with all of that I can I have major episodes of spasticity in any or all muscles in my body. My lower back is especially bad. I have been quarantine at home since January, not because of the coronavirus at first anyway, but because My body did not tolerate rituximab very well. My IG Levels were well below normal, Enough so that I have a new doctor, an immunologist. But back to Spasticity. It’s ironic that you recommend going to the dispensary so that you know what you’re getting, and I just could not disagree more. I have been very vocal about cannabis being studied for medical applications, seeing as there are over 100 cannabinoids ingested in one hit off a joint. I want to know exactly what I’m getting, and what the dosage is. I have friends who deal with a dispensary, sometimes they get stuff that works, and sometimes they don’t. So I was quite surprised to learn that my doc could prescribe Synthetic THC, Marinol, and I will pay prescription co-pay for it.

Raw MJ needs to be decarbed before THC can become active in your system. Eating raw bud will do absolutely nothing for you. Sorry to hear smoking it made things worse. Work with edibles, sprays, or tinctures.

I am trying tinctures and capsules again, but I have not found relief yet except with a 1:1 5mg thc/cbd gummies. Unfortunately, I'm keto for seizures and bummed that the industry hasn't caught on to erithrytol for the purpose. I want to say this, having worked in the mmj industry, I find it unlikely that regulatory procedures have caught up with testing for pesticides and anything like scientific dosing: mass spectometry would not be cost effective to run on small batches. Maybe you are aware of something I'm not? If you really want to know what and how much is in your cbd product, I think you need to buy from the UK where Sativex (close to 1:1 nasal spray I believe) has been approved. I'm still curious what other cannabanoids are present in these mixes. Certain relatively low cbd strains like Blue Dream, Banana Kush (landrace not hybrid), and the orig Cotton Candy have provided incredible relief where Sour D and Soma did not. Also, my cognitive function is so wonky these days that I don't want to be high, but the thc combo does seem to provide relief for the discomfort. Wish we could isolate this more!

@anthonycoxe3305

No, while the methods are similar in timing of the onset of effects, the use of a bong in a traditional sense would be done by combusting the bud whereas with a dry-herb vape you're heating the herb inside a mini convection/conduction oven in order to extract the cannabinoids without combusting the plant material itself meaning you're avoiding the carcinogens that come with smoking anything (it tastes much better without them present in the hot air you're inhaling). That being said there are water attachments for both dry-herb vaporizers and pen vapes to cool the vapor and provide a different/more bong-like experience if that's what you're looking for.
@AaronBosterMD
@AaronBosterMD 4 года назад
No, with a water pipe/bong one generally lights the plant material on fire and is still sucking in the smoke.
