Linear Algebra on Khan Academy: Have you ever wondered what the difference is between speed and velocity? Ever try to visualize in four dimensions or six or seven? Linear algebra describes things in two dimensions, but many of the concepts can be extended into three, four or more. Linear algebra implies two dimensional reasoning, however, the concepts covered in linear algebra provide the basis for multi-dimensional representations of mathematical reasoning. Matrices, vectors, vector spaces, transformations, eigenvectors/values all help us to visualize and understand multi dimensional concepts. This is an advanced course normally taken by science or engineering majors after taking at least two semesters of calculus (although calculus really isn't a prereq) so don't confuse this with regular high school algebra.
About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.
For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

As always this was helpful. What do you use to write such clear text? Also, do you use a special program or device? Thank you.

Confused.......how can two vectors be parallel and have the same direction? If I have one vector in the direction of due north and another vector offset to this by say, 500 miles, then it seems obvious to me that this second vector is not in the direction of due north.......wherein lies the conflict? Or is there some definition I'm not aware of? Any help would be gratefully appreciated....and thanks.

I think it's about the direction given by the projection of the vector on the axis and it has nothing to do with the vectors intersecting to a virtual Point (in your case, the North Pole). I hope I got right your confusion. :)

Barry Hughes see where ever u move the vector if it is parallel displacement i.e., if u moved it parallel to it's actual position then the direction will be same because the head of the vector is still pointing towards the same direction the position does not matter. Because if u draw a vector pointing towards north in two different copies then one of their directions do not become south. Understand?

Barry Hughes and one more thing if u change the direction of one vector exactly opp. to the other one i.e., keeping the two of them parallel. Then they r called anti-parallel vectors

How graphically it can be drawn that: vector x zero-scalar = 0. But the vector is not zero as the vector has its own value and the additional scalar has zero value, the vector remains uneffected by the scalar as the additional scalar is zero (not exist)

Can vector "a" times 1 be written as vector "-a"?
@ljhalawani7082
@ljhalawani7082 3 года назад
no it can't anything x1 is just itself. so a*1 = a maybe a*(-1) = -(a) but this method of writing is confusing
