Railways can modify the coaches to suit only for Mumbai Sub urban trains. simply remove all seats and allow only standing passengers. the coach can carry more passengers. if require only longitudinal seating of 30cm may be provided.
See the problem is everyone uses this trains - even old guys and most of the times the journey is about an hour long. So standing for so long isn't suitable for everyone.
That's why we need metro in Mumbai. Currently government is building metro on various routes in Mumbai. But unfortunately there are lot of protests against the metro construction by so called URBAN NAXAL.
The term 'Urban Naxal' is a hindutva propaganda to tag those people who ridicule the current ruling party in centre. The reason of protest was the govt decided to cut down 3000 trees of aarey forest to build metro station which could have displaced to other place in the city. If you don't care about the mother nature , doesn't mean that no one should.
The only time Indians don't worry about caste is when they have to get into a train. No shade intended because I think this is a beautiful thing. If Indians can realise that they can put aside caste when it comes to finding a place inside a train, then they can put aside caste in every other situations.
My dear friend, castes are not that much of a problem in today's Democratic Republic of India. However, in the world order of 2022 CE, the "upper caste" European countries are allowed to buy oil freely from Russia while the "lower caste"/"out-caste" India gets lectured for buying a small fraction of what Europe does. Mumbai travel is slowly changing with the start of metro trains especially the recent Dahisar-Goregaon-Aarey which will be extended to Andheri in the next 2 months and later on to the international airport. . Commuters can travel directly from Dahisar to Ghatkopar or Versova with a change at Andheri. Travel time will be reduced by half. By 2024-25 travel will change totally all over the city once most of the metro's start functing including the underground metro and not to forget the coastal road. Auto business will suffer a lot.

Actually, there are some coaches designated for women in each train, and their position on the platform when the train stops is also fixed. So, women wait at those points.
