I am from Surat. My father used to be diamond trader. From Monday to Wednesday, he live in Mumbai to sell diamonds and Thursday and Friday, get diamond from factory in Surat. Surat was always diamond hub of India, it’s just Surat didn’t have proper Airport connectivity and Mumbai have more air connectivity as well major city air-rail connectivity, most trade for diamond used to happen there. From Mumbai, Diamonds used to to entire India as well entire world. Risk which traders like my father used to take, overhead of travelling back and forth for diamonds, high cost of transporting diamonds via Angadia between Surat & Mumbai. Now, direct flights between major cities are common to Surat. Surat don’t have as big dependencies with Mumbai as before, thus many diamond traders are closing their offices and moving back to Surat in last 7 years. I personally know many such people in my family and my father’s friend circle who moved back to Surat after 30 years. Role of Mumbai as Diamond trading will go down and down by the time as core Diamond business always belonged to Surat, Mumbai was always a Proxy city…
My family and all relatives are in diamond trade, majority of them lives in Surat, while some in Mumbai. There are many reasons for trading hub to move back to Surat, mainly being better living conditions and daily commute which is pain in the ass in Mumbai. Also Surat now has international airport, which was the main reason despite Surat being polishing hub, trading used to or is happening from Mumbai until Surat diamond bourse is ready for operations.
@@Stickery fyi: Our GDP is now 5× what it used to be 20 years ago, we are growing rapidly and our infrastructure growth is impeccable and we are the among the largest producer of rice and wheat in our country we have sufficient food to feed our people.
The Indian mindset is that of limitations & crab mentality of bringing each other down! Actually both can exist in their own ways...& Create a bigger world market.
Nope. That's not bringing each other down. That's why we need more then 1 rich and highly developed state. Maharashtra could have made 'India jewellery park' anytime they wanted, but they only started making it after they faced compititions from Gujrat. Compititions forces development and innovation.
@@abirnigam8816 I'm talking about all businesses in general.... People are scared of competition, they malign each other Happens in every industry, even small businessest
The Maha govt harassed the workers that live in the dormitory during covid by cutting power and water and demanding more money from the diamond association, from ages the gujrat side has asked for facilities like being able to provide accommodation for their families during festivals, the diamond association pays a huge sum of money for facilities but they have not been maintained, hence the workers approached gujarati state govt and all parts of the community sat down together and came up with the diamond bourse . Stopping consignments on the border or taking hafta or vasooly are just some examples of the woes Now guj govt gave one stop solution with dedicated airports, metro, healthcare and much more
I don't think this is a fair competition to begin with. Surat polishes all diamonds, while they're traded in Mumbai, Mumbai itself has no shaping facility. So technically the only reason Mumbai has this advantage is because they're an international City. Now, as Surat is growing rapidly and soon will be internationally recognised and a metropolitan city, the reason traders go to Mumbai will disappear and Surat will emerge as diamond king. Also, a part of the reason Surat went ahead with the plan was thanks to the Maharashtra government's lack of interest in saving the diamond market during covid times. So basically when the diamond industry was at its worst, Maharashtra government didn't do anything to help them, however Gujarat government invested millions to help the traders. This is how Surat became one of the only cities to have an incline in GDP during covid pandemic.
Nah bro. Surat is diamond city. Here Mumbai have no competition. Mumbai diamond bourse is finished officially. The only problem is liquor. Gujarat should allow liquor.
Maharashtra is like the best kid in the class who helps others when they are lower in class but immediately sees them as a rival if they becomes better than him in something.
Vedanta moved their 1 lakh cr investment to gujrat even though MH offered them best deals on tax, land, electricity etc., The reason they gave was that their "Advisors" advised them so. Yeah we all know who that advisor was. Its not a healthy competition its a clear cut plan to move all wealth to gujrat.
North India and Eastern India should also attract Investment. Orissa and West Bengal has large coastline and also east asia as market for the export. This way all parts of India will develop.
The fact is migration already started with the huge numbers, just in my neighbour building which is still under construction at sarthana area, more than 50 diamond businessman from Mumbai buy flats there and the same happens to all Kathiyawadi locality area and SDB nearby areas, and in all new projects in diff areas like Varachha, Mota varachha, Althan, Vesu, Dabholi many business from Mumbai buying flats there and numbers are huge so in just 2-3 years all the diamond businessman will move to surat and live happy, safe and calm life with their family here (because currently many of them not live with their family in Mumbai, they spend weekend in surat and monday-friday at Mumbai and also one mejor reason is safety in surat there is 0 safety issue to transform diamond from locker to manufacturing unit, currently all diamond lockers are in Varachha area only which is very crowded area and still diamond businessman can easily transform their diamonds in normal plastic bag by crowded road)
@@ad2050most of the small traders are daily passengers. They do not live in Mumbai. People who live in Mumbai will never go back to Surat. And all big diamond traders live in Mumbai. So it will not be that easy for Surat.
As I am 1st Bhartiya and later Marathi. I can say Both State should complete with international market instead compiting in between..Surat DB is good initiative bcoz ultimately Labour and small traders has been suffering from daily updown by train...SDB ultimately helping mumbai to reduce crowd and many things... जय शिवराय🇮🇳
🌟 Surat Surat processes almost 90% of the diamonds in the world. Cutting and polishing of diamonds is extremely intricate work. That process is done by highly trained professionals. Since the 1960s Surat has been a hub for diamond cutting and polishing.
Nope Maharashtra is always 2 steps ahead Of Gujarat Becoz maharashtra has already signed & allocated land to one of Largest Jem park in world in Navi Mumbai with International bullion jewellers & Jewellery industry to compete with Surat Diamond bourse. Which will again bring Jewellery investors back to maharashtra. Of total 5 $ billion investment
@@MUMBAIKAR_ADITYA May be it will be difficult for MH to bring back Jewellary investment in MH as most of the diamond polishing and processing unit is in Surat. Because of Surat Diamond bourse, Trader can easily trade without any hassles while staying in surat. Also it will be difficult for MH to establish industry like this because of not having skilled workers and also MH can not attract these kind of workers in their state because of MH is too expensive compare to the Surat.
The trading center’s architects say it comprises over 7.1 million square feet of floor space, which would mean it has surpassed the Pentagon as the world’s largest office building.😊

Some people are spreading too much hate about guj in comment sec(cuz they are progressing) But mumbai mein hafta khori, chandabazi band karo companies apne app ayegi MH mein. Healthy competition is good for the industry. I hope other states start their own jewelry hubs that can compete with each other. Location of India will help in further boosting the economy.
True. Surat will easily win this. It is diamond capital of India. Mumbai should shutdown its diamond bourse, there is no point of competition with Gujaratis.
@@DannycageGhostrider But most diamonds are still getting polished in Surat. So that gives Surat upper hand. And things will change lot in coming years.
Gujrati business is run by both State economics, now Gujrati is back to return today to their city and state for a reason Maharastra government policy .
The problem is slow-paced work in Mumbai and high cost of living else no matter how much hard Gujarat or any state tries industries will not shift from Maharashtra if they don't find good profit. Even real-estate in Navi Mumbai is out of reach for common public and rent starts from 15k/month for 1bhk which is high for someone earning 35k/month.
Please add political instability. Major reason why big companies are shifting towards GJ or South India. Gujarat is now providing state of the art infrastructure with zero electricity, water and manpower issues.
Diamond industry never belonged to Mumbai , it was lack of facilities in Surat and airport facilities that was promoting Mumbai at Surat's cost. Most of the people associated in diamond industry of Mumbai are predominantly from Surat, Palanpur and Saurashtra. Diamond polishing is artisanal work which takes years to learn and Surat will always have cost & skill advantage over Mumbai which is our traditional industry and state politics can't alter it. Surat diamantaires made it big even without proper export facilities and SDB will only enhance their edge.
Surat will have easy win against Mumbai now .... Because diamond traders of Mumbai are even suraties and Gujaratis And rest of are marwaris who are also comes from surat after leaving Rajasthan So surat will give a clean wipe to diamond. Mumbai trade
I think now surat should have all benefits of diamond .... Beacause they are doing labour and travel for long time to Mumbai But now surat will take their everything
jis din surat mein international airport ban gaya tab diamond mumbai se saaf ho jayega aur mostly gujarati surat wapis aa jayengey. fir uske baad bada port chahiye surat ko.
Bro mumbai never says gujrati Or any one to do business in mumbai but everyone come in mumbai. And i knows that Narendra modi and amit shah just pm of gujrat and mark my words BJP gets huge damage in Maharashtra. state wars ko increase karne ke liye BJP ka dhanyavaad Jay Maharashtra 🙏

Surat has excellent legacy of diamond polishing business but they surely can't take the crown of being the diamond hub when it comes to trading the end product, there are hell lot of middlemen involved in the whole end to end process, Surat is where the most processing is done but Mumbai is the place from where the entire process is controlled and let me tell you something the big players in Mumbai who have built their reputation and name in the market in all those years will never ever move to Surat just for trading sake, this is exactly why they are throwing freebies to attract traders in Surat. This new trading diamond complex in Surat will be biggest big boon to local small and medium traders who happened to be one of the middlemen in the whole process, so definitely big thumps up to GJ state for pulling this off, the growing global diamond business is more than enough that both states can benefit from it. MMRDA has a near perfect record when it comes to delivering development projects and they can surely deliver the final sucker punch in this fight provided that the current blow job party (BJP) don't play any dirty trick which they have been doing a lot in recent time.

🤭🤭.... Already 40% trading surat had captured of Mumbai before operational of Surat diamond bourse Surat had started international flights And adani had invested big amount for surat water port for trading 😝
Rather than having Upper middle class guy (GJ) compete with the rich guy (MH), it would be better if the centre helps the other states compete with GJ. The rich will become richer if this goes on and poorer will remain poor. In anyways MH does all the development on its own with very limited help from centre. We have MIDC, MTDC, MSRDC, etc who have developed MH to what it is today.
