Honestly, I think people gravitate to mumbo because he is such a wholesome kind compassionate person, and he just seems so human, he makes mistakes, he comes up with ideas, he can be clumsy, funny, skilled and dedicated whole acting bubbly and professional at the same time.

Mumbo is one of the few hermit crafters who consistently uploads videos that aren’t hermit craft. He does a good job of doing both hermit craft and red-stone.

Honestly, the hermit's amount of effort they pour on their episodes is astonishing, Mumbo, Grian, Doc and Scar play and make huge leaps of progress on whatever they're building that it's amazing they don't just toggle creative when off camera to make progress.

I subscribed to Mumbo when he was a relatively tiny ~10k-20k subs channel, back when he mostly did tutorial redstone videos, back before Hermitcraft season 2, back even before Mumbo's World. I remember the first time I clicked one of his earliest video in recommended, noticing his flashy but simple thumbnails that caught my attention, I remember him being excited about joining Hermitcraft, when it was still considered a "Mindcrack copy" by many, I even remember his short-lived "In a Nutshell" channel. And when I watch him today, I somewhat have trouble realizing how much his channel has grown. I still see him as a somewhat obscure RU-vidr in the Minecraft technical community, overshadowed by big names like Etho, Sethbling, CubeHamster, FVDisco... RU-vidr's he's all overshadowed since, even outlived some. Even then, I still have trouble seeing him as one of the biggest Minecraft channels out there. And to be honest, I see why it's easy to forget such things. He's still as level headed, humble and hard working as he's been since he started being a recognised name in the Minecraft technical community. Sure, his production value has increased, and his redstone skills have sharpened, but he was already on top of everyone else on those two fronts even when he only started to be a recognised name in the community. It's a bit surreal for me to hear giants like PewDiePie and James Charles shouting him out, and videos like this one crowning him as the King of Minecraft, but it's me forgetting he has become quite a juggernaut of his own with over 6M subscribers now. And over all those years he has consistently done a great job at making me forget that. He's stayed the exact same happy redstone nerd he was when he was a tiny channel, never letting the success go over his head, working as hard as ever. Mumbo deserved every single subscriber he's earned since he started his channel, and if he really is the king of Minecraft, I wouldn't mind that in any way as he is one of the best representatives of the Minecraft community you could ask for.

how did he become so successful? well it's actually quite simple

Mumbo was my re-introduction to Minecraft when RU-vid randomly started recommending Minecraft videos to me somewhere in mid-2019. I watched his Hermitcraft videos and I loved the idea of a group of friends playing on a single server building magnificent and ridiculous structures. I loved the builds, the interactions, and the shenanigans, and now I currently watch 11 Hermits regularly. Hermitcraft truly inspired me and made me fall in love with the game once and for all, and now me and a friend share a server and we play together quite a bit and we have some massive builds planned for our world we're working on. If you had told me several years ago that in 2019 and 2020 my most played game would be Minecraft, I would have asked you to share whatever hallucinogenic drugs you were on.

But with grian, they're the perfect duo. Building & Redstone.

I first found his channel in 2015 in around, I still watch even in 2020

I used to watch mumbo nearly religiously but over time his titles have gotten more clickbaity (or at least I perceived them as such) so I stopped watching him. I tend to associate clickbaity titles with low-quality content but having seen this video I might start watching him again since it seems his content may not actually have changed much. Edit: I’ve gone ahead and watched his latest video and it seems that his content has, in fact, remained relatively similar to what I used to watch. Furthermore, it seems his titles have also become less clickbaity than when I stopped watching him and have returned their old style which is great. I’ll probably start watching more of his videos again! P.s. keep up the great work! Your content is very well produced

Hey man, I found your channel from the documentary style video you did on Etho and was amazed by the level of detail you put into it having watched Etho for 8 years myself. I've also been watching Mumbo since the start of Season 2 of Hermitcraft, and I think you really nailed how/why Mumbo has risen to the top of the MC community through the whole multiple audiences angle. His videos aren't something that his viewers would outgrow due to his personality and diverse approach to the game, meaning that once you start watching him it's hard to stop since he's also always keeping his content relevant. Another interesting thing about Mumbo- he joined Hermitcraft when he was only 17 and living with his mom, so he's never known what it's like to be an adult without being a RU-vidr. That could also be the reason why his personality is so infectious (in a good way) since at heart Mumbo is still a kid just living out his dreams being a filmmaker, car enthusiast, and minecrafter with crazy dedication, something anyone can appreciate.

Seeing the comment section, I don't know why people are debating who's the the real Minecraft king. I'm mostly seeing this from Dream fans, but all in all I don't see why. Yes, Dream's channel has a faster growth rate than Mumbo has and will most likely surpass him in subs in about a week or so. And then people are saying Mumbo's the true king because he has more overall views, when this can technically all be irrelevant. Because in my own opinion there is no real "best Minecraft player". Comparing Mumbo and Dream to be the 'Minecraft king' is comparing two entirely different things. Speedruns and minigames are too different from redstone and smps to be compared in the same way.This applies to other players that people deem the best. To truly be the greatest at Minecraft (in my opinion mkay) you have to be extremely rounded out at different game genres, and extremely good at all of them. Which from what I know no one is good at *all* of them. Theres smp, building, terraforming, redstone, pvp, minigames, speedruns, etc and I cant think of one player that's great at all of these at a very high level. And Dream and mumbo are at the top of their game at what they do , and people should just appreciate the effort they put into their content. Theyre both entertaining and no one needs to figure out who's best. It doesn't really matter how many subs or views they have, in general both are just good minecrafters. also pls be civilized thanks

I wouldn't necessarily call Mumbo Jumbo the "King" of Minecraft, but I would say he's one of the Top 10 Minecrafters on RU-vid, and easily the best one at Redstone.

Can we just appreciate the iconic duo that is Mumbo and Grian? They, as well as many of the other Hermits bring such an amazing, genuine, wholesome energy to the Minecraft community.

A lot of people that point out Dream will overtake, it might happen but as of right now and as well as in the decay of Minecraft 2017-2019. Mumbo was the king of Minecraft RU-vid and still is, until overtaken. There is no discussion needed for Mumbo vs Dream as stats can change pretty quickly (I actually want Dream to win but it will take some time, for now, Mumbo has the title.) Honestly, great video! I've watched Mumbo's videos for years, redstone longest but hermitcraft since the start of season five, and only recently realized how BIG his channel is! (I have a poor framed reference for sub count) I thought he was relatively small because of how friendly he is and how passionate he is, while non-hermit channels seem to get cheesy, tired or sarcastic after a few million subscribers.

Unpopular opinion but I don’t actually think Nestor, Cal, and Techno are gonna win tomorrow. I’ve challenged them with an immediate disadvantage of being a team of 3 in a team of 4 event on 1.12... that’s gonna be really hard no matter how good they might be

I absolutely love him and his Hermitcraft episodes. I've never played Minecraft for longer than a couple of hours before getting bored and deleting the world and not touching the game for months, but I always watch his new episodes. I usually skip the redstone tutorials because that doesn't interest me. I've started watching him at the end of 2nd season of Hermitcraft and I still get happy when I see a new one released :)

I used to watch Mumbo from the start of Hermitcraft season 4 til the end of season 5. He really became much more popular and he changed to be more kid friendly and goofy. I noticed he was doing goofy stuff on purpose and i dont particularily enjoy that much so i started watching xisumavoid and iskall, but iskall was the same as mumbo, even more goofy. I understand why he did it and that made him much more popular. EDIT: i also remember him never doing collaborations in season 4, i was always waiting when he would collaborate with the other members when they had a group project, but he was always busy i guess.

Not really a huge fan of Minecraft RU-vid but I’m glad for oli cuz I’ve been subbed since 2016 and know that his focus is on quality videos

Whew thats a heckuva story. I recently just started watching Mumbo and Grian as I started to dip my toes in the youtube waters. Theres alot of good lessons to learn from my youtube seniors such as them and others.

In this video you talked about the hermits having different bases, can you imagine if they all built one base? I imagine it would span many chunks and go from height limit to bedrock, with twisting tunnels going all around. I would love to see that!

Yeah Mumbo and Grian are very influential in Hermitcraft, when Sahara was formed Iskall BOOMED in views and subscribers and from 1 season to another he went from 100K subs to 1M, Stress also began growing in the Civil war because of the interactions she had with Grian

Another reason mumbo is popular in my opinion is the way he makes his tutorials. He makes them in a fun and easy to understand manner which is good if you're not as good at redstone. His contraptions are also often quite useful in actual survival playing, and there are many examples to give to this. In my case, his videos are pretty much what got me into redstone.

Since Mumbo has interest in creating film projects in real life, I think that experience also adds a lot to his editing work of his minecraft videos. There's a flow of creating a small silly story and humor in each and every video of his, which very enjoyable to watch by a lot of viewers. This is very distinctive vs other youtuber videos.

it's been amazing to see mumbo jumbo grow over the years. I first started watching him back around season 3-4 of hermitcraft. and to think that he is now one of the most popular minecraft youtubers on the platform is an amaing thought. I feel so nostalgic when I hear the old mumbo jumbo music, and it's a crazy thought that most of his new viewers won't even know about boats and hoes, or how mumbo is a spoon! anyway, great video good job!

One of the best thing about Mumbo once did was in the Video where he went through grians house for him, when he got to the item sorter instead of saying "What the Heck?" He said "What is Occoring" that is one of the many things I Love about him.

I remember watching mumbo jumbo when He had about 500,000 subscribers. I still watch them till this day and it amazes me how quickly he has grown.

The reason that hermits stand out from other Minecraft youtubers like unspeakable or shark is because there 1 there all extremely skilled at the game in one or more fields and 2 there also good at creating the videos themselves the videos are always well edited and entertaining

I started watching Mumbo Jumbo because I was watching Grian and they made houses for each other. Hands down the funniest Minecraft videos ever made.

I started to watch him back in 2014 I think, he had about 250k subscribers at the time. I remember him replying to my comment in his 750k special video. Back then I wasn't good at english so I didn't watch him a lot. I started to watch him very frequently in 2018 after regaining a lot of interest in Minecraft.

I haven’t watched much recently but I used to go on binges where I would watch a bunch of his content. Honestly it was that theme song and Ending theme music that got me hooked as they would get stuck in my head all the time.

Ok, having read most of the comment section and answered an unhealthy number of comments I'd like to put it in plain writing: Dream is undoubtedly big, he grows at a much higher rate than mumbo. Even if I don't particularly enjoy his content I'll admit that he's been good at changing what he does to ride the unpredictable "algorithm wave" so, even if it might upses us hardcore hermitcraft fans, he will probably go on for quite a while. The fact is still that as it stands mumbo has a lot more years than dream under his belt (I'm not talking about channel creation, but of constant periodic uploads), which means that even if Dream is getting bigger every day his total channel views are 500 million, whilst those of mumbo are 1.8 billion, which is a lot more (about a grian and half a dream of views to get a sense of perspective). Thus: even if dream has a lot more views per video mumbo still has more subscribers (at the time of writing) and a lot more views, it might only be a matter of time but mumbo doesn't show any signs of stopping. If anyone is upset by this comment... just sod off.

I feel like part of his success is his interest in film and editing. He enjoys the editing possibly more than other youtubers, and he might be able to do it better and make the videos more interesting
