I know Canby!! I lived in Salmon Arm 😁 Making one of your polenta recipes tonight ... Well, I actually make one of them 90% of the time. Thank you for sharing. Oh! I have my neighbors all hooked on Kewpie, too.. lol
@DonnyBlips as a Scottish person it's offensively bad but it is funny. It's like the film accent Americans gave us and now everybody thinks we talk like Shrek and Braveheart 😭
Sam, I am a single Dad with two teen sons and your munchies recipes have carried the day so many times. A tortilla pan pizza? F*inf brilliant! Someday, my boys will develop tastes for your finer dishes, but for now, your munchies food is solid gold!
You should check out J. Kenji Lopez-Alt's tortilla pizza piece on Serious Eats. I've been making it for a late night snack for at least the past 5 years. Absolutely delicious.
Shout out to single dads. My dad raised me on simple meals like hamburger helper and frozen bags of stir fry. One of the reasons I learned to cook. Sounds like your boys are in good hands.
I was a single dad to my daughter from age 9 through college and now she's 25 and STILL begs to come over and have some of my special dishes - especially on holidays. Congrats dad, and keep up the good work! If you want to kick it up a notch, teach those boys to cook for dad!!! :)
If you’re having a bad day just remember, on any given day of the week you can say “a new STCG episode came out yesterday”, “a new STCG episode comes out today”, or “a new STCG episode comes out tomorrow”
During quarantine here in Ireland I didn't have much to do so I started binge watching Sam's videos from the start, from the live podcasts up to now. Could you do another live video? Cook and answer our questions?
As a Brit, I can say with great authority that there are a LOT of students that have made this exact same crisp sandwich with ketchup instead of actual tomatoes as they were far too drunk to use a knife.
Instructions for bread: “Don’t bring out your fancy shit”. Sam’s Bread: white, organic, free ranged, ethically farmed, midranged cost brand bread. My poor butt hears “not fancy shit” and pull out that $.99 bleached enriched bag and am confused.
I’m surprised the number of Brits that haven’t had crisps in their sarnies. I’ve always preferred walkers cheese and onion for some extra crunch. Some Heinz ketchup is nice with it too, otherwise hot sauce.
Salt & vinegar Walkers, white bread, butter. Job done. That moment you press the top slice down to compact it together a little is part of the sensory experience :D
You know I haven’t cooked any of your food yet; but watching you and your interactions with “the boys” is soothing and entertaining. Much needed in the current climate. Thank you!
Potato chip tomato sandwich - Sam: "You can ONLY use these exact ingredients. DON'T change it up." Munchie pizza - Sam: "Use whatever the hell you have because that's how munchies work."
Thank you for sharing the tomato, mayo, chip, and white bread sandwich with the rest of the world. It hadn’t even crossed my mind others knew nothing of the sandwich I grew up with it. Now I feel a little too special that you had to share it. All the love JM
Yet another thing those wonderful Scots gave the world, crisp pieces amazing and a staple of anyone brought up in the most amazing part of the world!!!!
I remember sitting hungry af with my gf when we first found out about your channel it was first or second munchies video and since then we were watching your videos basically when we wanted to make something new unfortunately she took her life away 6 months ago she was only 19 and these videos really bring back that old feeling when we used to be exited the fuck out because we knew you’re gonna pull up something great sam thank you for bringing back that vibe , may she rest in peace.
@@errkhernandez8829 it’s been rough 6 months i only recovered couple months ago from the shock , i couldn’t believe it happened such a thing you’d never expect especially somoene that close to you , we meant world to each other.
We eat tomato sandwiches here in the South. Plain old white bread, sliced homegrown tomatoes, salt, Hellman’s or Dukes mayo on both sides, slap the top on it, cut it, and devour it.
I have the core belief that potato chips on any sandwich is amazing. Seriously - any sandwich. Props on being able to open a new bag of chips and not eat half the bag before getting them to the bread. The Munchies episodes are always my favorites!
As a Brit I prefer mayo over salad cream in a crisp butty, but everyone should be aware that salad cream doesn't even taste similar to mayo! They're quite different, salad cream is very tangy so be careful what you put it on.
Congratulations on the almost 3million subscribers. I like your no messing approach to cooking and your entertaining delivery. You have built your channel based on your personality and great choice of meals. Good luck to you, your family and colleagues. It would be great to see more preparation work , some ideas for dry and wet rubs and like the fact you don’t use a hundred ingredient in your rubs. Keep the bleeps and blunders in as it’s you. 👍👏
When I was a kid we had a garden and when we go the tomatoes my FAV thing was just a tomato sammich on some soft white bread...bread tomato mayo salt and pepper. It was amazing. I've never thought to add chips but I'm betting it's amazing
When he said he was adding a special ingredient to the apple pies, was I the only person that instinctively thought “is Sam gonna add soy sauce or green onion?”
I think a brilliant idea for the pizza would be to have 2 tortilla because it would make it a bit thicker and maybe not as flimsy, and inbetween the 2 tortilla you could spread garlic butter
I love when you put out the munchies videos. And it’s always when I’m stoned af and ready to eat anything I can find. I’m already started on the sandwich...this is going to be badass. Thank you for the ideas my dude. Btw regular Lays are THE ONLY chips when you are baked.
Where I'm from, we live for tomato sandwiches made with with fresh garden tomatoes. It's one of my favorite things about summer. White bread, garden tomato, mayo, some salt and pepper, along with a bag of plain Lay's potato chips. When I was a kid, we had homemade biscuits for breakfast almost every morning. If there were any left over, we would sometimes make tomato sandwiches out of those biscuits. I still do that from time to time.
I've done pizza with tortilla's before, but I use Naan flat bread now. I always make them in my cast iron skillet. It isn't from Sam, but was my great great grandmother's, so it has been properly seasoned for over 140 years. More importantly, you need to put corn meal under the crust when you put it in the skillet. That provides an air gap so the bottom of the crust will get crisp.
Old folk tale: peel an apple in one piece. Take the peel, and swing it in a circle. Every circle you say. “A”, “B”, “C” and so on. Whichever letter the peel breaks is the first initial of your future husband’s name.
A classic Swedish childrens book/movie francise "Pippi Longstocking" or "Pippi Långstrump" in Swedish has a song in one of the movies that goes something like "You take what you have, it's a good recipe"
Well, I have to say that potato chip, mayonnaise, white bread, and tomato sandwich is not new with me. I've been making that every summer most of my life.. And it is good. I am glad other people are enjoying it. Love this video, really really love it.
I made the tomato chip sandwich like 10 minutes ago, and wow. I was in the mood for munchies, and remembered how simple this was, and holy cow I was not expecting something so good.
In England we replace the tomato with cheese, usually cheddar, but any hard stuff will do. I ate hundreds of those when I was a kid. Also when it was close to 'Pay Day' and money was tight we just ate the bread with crisps inside (No, not potato chips, but CRISPS!!!) YUMMY!! And yes, I still have that today, some 60 odd years later :-)
I’ve just started watching your vids, now I can’t stop! How did you know all the things I’m actually willing to cook? Subscribed, binging, and ready for more!!
Sam, you would not recognize Marine and Cambie if you were there today. That tortilla pizza, I think would be awesome with breakfast sausage, scrambled eggs and cheese. Mmmm yummy.
We ate crinkle cut bbq chip sandwiches all the time growing up. Best ever. The crunch of chips against soft white bread is the best. Also Heinz salad cream is also the best, it makes the best potato salad dressing.
Chip sandwiches! lol! My childhood all over again... The ruffled chips are the best... better crunch. Add a little lettuce and mayo too... We were poor kids living off the garden. Chips were the only luxury...
I just made the hotdog pizza. I used kalbasa, truffles, black garlic, parmesan and mozzarella, green olives stuffed with jalepenos and some red beet and red cabbage sour kraut.... So good.
When I was a kid, we pretty much lived on these things. Tomato sandwich with "Miracle Whip". BTW, at "Publix" here is Florida, they have the Heinz Salad Creme.
😊the pizza is awesome I'm 54 now but I grew up my mom and dad putting hot dogs on our pizzas we loved it.. and I agree with you about the iceberg lettuce love those wedge salads
