Stevens did Dallas shortly before this, I think. I wouldn't call it overacting, just a clash in styles. Stevens thought he was still doing Dallas.

One of the worst episodes. Initially they let the murderer go because they believe he **only** shot a body that was already dead (later revealed to be part of the killer's plan). BUT THAT'S STILL ILLEGAL. Ignoring the "real murder", he still shot a body he believed to be alive (according to him). That's attempted murder. Even if he wasn't charged with attempted murder, there is still desecration of a corpse and illegal discharge of a firearm.

Maybe not attempted murder, but at least "Mutilation of a Corpse." That alone is worth 12-ish years in prison. He should have been in jail as soon as they found out he shot the body. All that being said, I still though it was her the entire time.

to be fair... Columbo would have known all that but also known that as soon as he charged him, he'd clam up. He wanted to pin the murder on him, not play into the murder's hands.

It is still attempted murder if you shot a dead body intending to kill them even if you don’t know the person is already dead. A disaster of an episode with the two “villains” acting like two overgrown children.

My theory is that Columbo was deeply closeted. That's why he always talked about his wife, yet we never see her. Even when he is on vacation! So the ladies undergarments don't phase him.

In universe his wife is real. Not many examples but other characters talk about seeing her or mention she called etc. The writers never intended for her to be that important so when fans wanted to know about or see her they double downed and kept her vague for interest, kept some fans hoping she will be shown etc. Twin Peaks is another example of this but the writers were forced in that case. They were never going to reveal the killer but pressure from fans and ABC made them come up with a bonkers story to explain something they never intended to. Twin peaks was crazy as is but it just got silly because of having to do that.

Yes, but clothing manufacturers, whether for a female garment or a male garment, generally put clothing labels on the left by default. For example, I often wear turtlenecks in the winter and so does my wife. To tell the difference between the front and the back, so you don't put it on backward, manufacturers sometimes put a label that goes at the inside-back of the neck, but almost all put a label on the inside-left along the inseam near the waist. This makes it easy to know which way to put on the turtleneck. Just make sure the label's on the left side when you put it on and you're good to go.

Most of the revival episodes were not great. This one is especially not great. Andrew Stevens was fine as "handsome man" in the soft-core that makes up most of his filmography. But playing an actual role ... errrr ... not so much.

This really had a "who done it" vibe to the episode. A departure from the tradition of the series, since the viewer usually knows from the beginning of the episode who comitted the murder.
