This week for No-Nostalgia Retro Gaming the votes are for "Murder on the Mississippi", a murder mystery game put out by Activision in 1986 which seemingly doesn't have any copy protection whatsoever...? :o

Wikipedia says it was loosely based on "Death on the Nile". It looks like the issues that you'd run into on the C64 version if you played it through are that the game is perfectly willing to place you into a walking dead state, and that there's only one save. (For example, if you don't take proper notes, you can't replay the conversation, so you're stuck.)

Apparently, this game came out in Japan for the Famicom and MSX2, and was considered a kusoge.

Sorry to post something unrelated, but just wanted to say, I played a lot of Pixelships and Pixelships Retro when I was younger, still have the registration key in my old email somewhere. They were really fantastic and unique, great aesthetic, and did a better job of scratching the "collect and evolve" itch than Pokemon. I know that's not really what you do anymore, and I didn't come here to ask about it. Just looked you up on a whim and wanted to say thank you for all the great memories with those games, and I'm really glad to see you're still doing okay out there and pursuing what you love. All the best to you and yours.

Not that I don't have a solid idea for PixelShips 2 at the moment, I just lack the funding to make it happen as it's too large of an idea for me to make solo. My gamedev efforts only really take up about 10%~20% of the work I do each week now, but I am still working towards getting more games out eventually! :B

I saw RNDStranger play the Famicom version and believe it or not, it’s even harder there as there’s death traps that kill you instantly.

an NO saves. 😂 It's pretty legendary in Japan for being a first rate "クソゲ" (kusoge, shitty game). Simply had to buy it.

Fun game and quite polished for 1986. Seems like it could've benefited considerably from less cliched writing, though.

I double-checked and there were LOTS of different ships with the name, most of which were military ships. :P

Looks like a neat adventure game. Too bad that, judging by the comments, you can easily screw yourself doing a wrong thing. Than again, it is not unusual for old adventure games, as far as I know.
