You should do the case of Recardo Wimbush Junior. The parents had 10 kids and 2 were saved by one anonymous call to CPS. I think listening to a saved episode would be a nice change. All 10 lived but 2 were in serious danger. I don't want to give all the details but you must cover it.

As a teacher, I hold every teacher at his school accountable. It's not enough for them to say they reported it and it wasn't followed up. Every adult in the world needs to stop putting their job first and start doing what anyone in a village would have done before we began outsourcing morality and justice to an overburdened system - they should have formed a group, gone to the kid's house, and taken him out until the family was investigated. I hold them all accountable for this.
@ssharkbait
@ssharkbait 2 года назад
They would just be considered kidnapping. They would be arrested and the kid would go back to their parents. Not sure how that would help anything. What they should’ve been doing is collecting all the evidence they could and reporting every single day until something was done. They didn’t even bother to actually speak to the child alone.

Of course every story that ends with a child's death is awful, but this one also gets me as a teacher. I can't imagine witnessing all of this. There's only so much you can do, but what you can do is more than what was done. At the very least, no one could bring a lunch for this poor baby? The 6 year old daughter was the only one who had the presence of mind to try it?

Right? Doesn't even sound like a reasonable request. My mother is a teacher, one of the best, wish there were more of her, she's the type that would be bringing meals and food to school for him. Sure she's make up a system so other kids didn't need to have their meals taken, but a system where Daniel could eat. She wouldn't care of the repercussions. I want to add that my mother is a former foster mother of mine and because of her and the unconstitutional love i received and still do, is beyond what I thought was possible. SOO, many kids are stuck, with cowards hiding behind policies and to scared to lose their jobs, it's heart breaking. Those teachers that locked those lunches are just as monstrous as that dead beat mother, and sad excuse of a man.

I lived in Coventry when this happened. I also was training as a TA. Just before this happened, a child was stealing from the lunch boxes regularly. When the teachers found out they punished this child. I can remember saying to them ‘isn’t it common sense if a child is stealing food then there may be a welfare issue!’ I was scoffed at, after all I was a newbie at working in schools so what did I know (eye roll) this child was also very skinny and always very dirty. He wore only a shirt, no jumper and just a extremely thin tatty waterproof coat. It was middle of winter. He was also caught stealing a lovely, warm coat and again punished. The teacher told his mother at home time ( I use the term mother loosely she was a horrid person) and she was evidently angry with the poor boy, even swearing at him in front of us. The teacher did nothing. I could not help but to buy him a lovely, warm coat and quietly gave it too him. I could have got in so much trouble and most likely loosing my placement while I was doing my collage training. But the mother in me just could not buy him a new coat. He was so over joyed like it was Christmas. It was such a over reaction at something a child should just receive as the basic requirement for their needs. I never saw that coat again on him, just the horrible, smelly, too small, thin one. I knew then it wasn’t a poverty issue. Me as a mother if I could not provide a warm coat for my child in winter and someone provided them with one. I would be so grateful and make sure it was well looked after and of course used! I worked one to one with this boy as he was extremely behind in his work. He was such a pleasant, polite, shy boy who often seeked cuddles. He would always draw me pictures of me and him and a pretty house. He began to ask me if I could take him home and be his new mummy and by god it was hard to just not take him home, instead telling him I could not. Broke my heart. I often raised my concerns and the school fobbed me off. Until one day he did disclose something to me. I again went through the relevant channels in the School really thinking this time some action would be taken. But because this boy had language issues it again was fobbed off. I called social services. I’m not sure what action they took as you are just not informed. Not long after the school year was over and I was qualifying. It is so sad at the end of the school year to say good bye to all the children but even more to this little boy. I just wanted to take him home, love him and treat him like a child should be. That year the school cut back on TAs so I never returned to see him in his new school year. Then after qualifying I never returned to teaching, even though I did love it. That experience really affected me. A year or two later the story of this poor Daniel hit the news. Being so local it even hits harder. It also made think of the little boy I taught. I He will be grown up now and I hope where ever he, he is doing well for himself. I would not have been shocked if he ended up like poor Daniel in this story. It made me realise evil is all around us, I was naive before. Only seeing the good in humanity and thinking this type of evilness and cruelty could not possibly exist. This one has been hard to watch. I want to reach in the screen, pluck Daniel out and just love him. Thank you Emma, for Daniel you have given him a little justice and remembrance. As all the children so cruelly taken from this earth.

Hopefully that little boy made it, and I guarantee to this day he remembers you and has probably talked about you many times to other people as the ONE person that showed him love and showed him that not everyone in the world is cruel and heartless. Even if you think you didn't, you did make a difference in his life. You were a life raft to a someone who was drowning, even if he that coat was taken away from him, I bet he still remembers everything about it,and I would almost say that when he had the money to buy his first coat for himself, he bought one the same color as the one you gifted him. I don't know if you remember his name, but I bet he would be overwhelmed and happy if you were able to find and reach out to him. 💙💙

My sister was called up the school because of what her daughter had been going to school wearing or not wearing should i say and it had nothing to do with poverty or abuse my niece just would leave the house wearing one thing and go to school wearing something else or she wouldn't wear socks or go in without a coat or jumper in the middle of winter and with my sister working she didn't always see her leave the house. My sister was mortified when she got up the school and was offered free clothing, I'm not saying what you did was wrong I would have done the same the little boy was obviously neglected I'm just giving you an idea of why maybe some people didn't take it as serious as they absolutely should off! It's better to offend a parent than to leave a child in a horrible home situation. obviously my sister sorted out the issue with the school and my niece has now been diagnosed with ADHD so the whole going into school looking like she just been pulled off the street had most likely been for attention.

This case is heartbreaking! We failed you, Daniel. As a retired teacher, I lived in fear of falling a child. I hope I didn’t, but none of us can ever be 100% certain, can we? RIP Daniel. As an adopted child, I had a crap childhood. An angry, aggressive mother, a loving, but utterly feeble father. I was “lucky”, my sister rather less so. She was regularly on the receiving end of violence. She was a scapegoat for our mother’s unhappiness. My proudest boast; I broke the cycle. I look back on my parenting and I know I made huge mistakes, but I loved my children unconditionally, and so did their dad. I was in a very physically abusive relationship a while back, and everyone who cares for me was just so frustrated and didn’t know what to do to help me. I wound up leaving after about 2.5 years…. But it was so hard because I loved him, and I still do to this day almost 10 years later. I’ve realized long ago we can’t be together, it’s not good; but regardless that almost “innate” love I don’t think will ever leave me. My mother works in Primary school as a teacher's aid. I see that schools report concerns to Social Services when required but it takes LOADS of reports before any action is taken. My mum is not a trained psychotherapist and the fear of causing parental offence is overriding the child's welfare. Also, she works directly with children who need 1 to 1 care and knows she is sending kids home to horrific home lives. The guilt she feels is awful and she isn't even permitted to see the child's background information yet is a trusted point of contact for the child. Add in any overtly liberal mentality from the parent (racism, sexism, discrimination in any form) and the education department back off. Star Hobson is a perfect example of this. Time to get our priorities straight and break the silence on domestic violence. ❤

Throughout my life my cousins and siblings and I had a couple of suspicious accidents that were genuine accidents. My sister ran at full speed into a metal rope that was wound tightly between two trees and at the height of her neck. Yes, she hit it with her throat, had really gruesome bruises that looked like strangulation happened, there were witnesses and an ambulance was called, but a social worker was called at the ER just to make sure we were fine. She was about six or seven. And looking back, I'm grateful for that, and so are my parents. There's bruises and injuries who are more suspicious than others, and if there's any doubt there should be a follow up, always.

Daniels story breaks my heart & hurts. As a child that came from a physically abusive home, every adult that set eyes on him failed him. I survived on free school meals & couldn’t imagine if they had been taken away from me. I was lucky & had some caring teachers that helped clothe me in clean uniforms. The local library who became my babysitters, was my safe place. I have some of my best memories of being there. I couldn’t work in a position with children because if I seen anything I thought was a red flag, I would be taking that child home. How the school, social services & those two doctors weren’t held accountable is an even bigger disaster with the justice system. Hopefully Daniel’s 6 year old sister knows that she was a little hero & that those two horrendous monsters suffered the same treatment given to them in prison before they died. Wherever you are Daniel I hope it’s full of all the love you deserve. 💙💙 Well done on talking about such a hard case Emma.

My remit was LGBTQ and I met with women who not only suffered homophobia but it also affected their children. I went into so many tower blocks and got to know women and their children. These women lived on pennies and would open their cupboards to show me all the goodies they had for kids plus they took advantage of the ‘healthy cooking’ classes provided by local authority and were so proud to feed their children well. Our service ran a match quid for quid Christmas club. Our members were religious in their saving and we would partner with gay venues and other commercial outlets for Christmas gifts for our kids parties. My heart breaks for this baby boy.

This was another heartbreaking case to watch, but the compassion that comes through in your storytelling is a gift to the victims as well as your audience. We have “mandatory reporting” here in the states, and I suppose it might be similar to your “safeguarding,” but with a higher responsibility. Teachers, coaches, social workers, doctors, therapists, etc are all mandatory reporters and have a professional duty to report any suspicion of abuse or neglect. I hope the laws get stronger for you in the UK. This is not acceptable.

When my daughter was little she had to have stitches (around mid 1990s) and I was holding her hand in the ER, and they made me leave the room which panicked me bc I didn’t want to leave my hurting child’s side-they explained after they spoke to her alone that any time a child had a substantial injury they had to ensure it wasn’t the parent. I was young and really offended by this, but was too concerned with my child to care much ...later when I had time to think about it it was definitely worth my momentary uncomfortable feelings of being “unfairly accused” in my mind, if they can save any child who is being hurt. I think most parents, after the initial shock, would realize these things are absolutely necessary

I recounted all incidents to them, on my own and I remember them putting me in a side ward, in hospital to question me. For back then, that was pretty stringent and good practice. My Mum felt the same as you, and quite rightly. She or my Dad would never have done such a thing, but sadly, they didn't know that. I pointed out to my Mum later on in life, that think how many little kids they probably helped who's parents were physically abusing them. She took a different view of it, after that.

I’m currently studying to be an early years educator and hearing the utter dismissal and cruelty of Daniel’s teachers is equally heartbreaking and infuriating. Early years education is MORE than just being present as a teacher, you have to also be present as a protector, friend and trusted confidant. Those teachers 100% could have prevented this little boys death. I hurt so bad thinking about everything he went through in his final months.

I watched this after I tucked my two eldest into bed and it made me go up and give them extra cuddles and a great chat about things that bother them! Can’t imagine how anyone could ignore all those warning signs. Having 3 little boys, I genuinely can’t imagine how hard that babies life was. I wish people focused on these horrific circumstances other than the media’s issues that are forced upon us. We spend so much time arguing over things and so little time fixing them 💙 very rare I agree mostly with someone’s viewpoint but Emma you get things spot on! Your priorities are right and I hope that more people think like you as the human race progresses ❤️❤️ Daniel, I hope you are in absolute paradise and living the beautiful life you deserve darling ❤️

This was, for me, probably the hardest case to listen to so far.. there are no words to describe the anger and total heartbreak while listening and seeing you describe everything that this beautifull little boy had to endure in his short life in this world.. but I still would like to thank you for givning him a voice, and letting all of us know that once there was a boy on this planet, who was beautiful in every single way. Thank you

This is devastating! There are too many children going through this and there is no end in sight in light of the fact that the system is not willing or able to deal with the welfare of these children. Thank you Emma for putting the spotlight on these precious babies!

I know from teaching Safeguarding that this is an horrific case, and that Social Services, in particular, were shockingly lacking in their due diligence. Emma will present this brilliantly and compassionately. That I know

Yes, and they are too busy bullying and gaslighting the parents of special needs children, rather than saving children like Daniel. I agree, corrupt though and through.

@Sunshine Baby maybe in America but I doubt that here UK my daughter has been a social worker for 12 years, promoted to safe guarding lead this year, and it’s the lack of money and foster homes that fail here

@Sunshine Baby I’m not a social worker, they are over loaded with cases and zero funding to help! I see social workers get blamed daily but never teachers, dr,s etc and come on we all see this stuff happening or hear it! A child that’s withdrawn? Always has bruises? It’s a impossible situation under a Tory government

I absolutely hate that the school didn't obtain a doctor's note stating that Daniel did indeed have a rare eating disorder. I couldn't imagine feeding snacks to a room of children while one just watched. The physical abuse is disgusting. But the mental and emotional abuse really twists the dagger in my stomach. Daniel deserved so much better. I would've taken him in as well. He had no one on his team.

I remember with a very heavy heart when this case came to light. As if Baby P (Peter Connely wasn't heartbreaking enough). This story of Daniel Pelka's life utterly destroyed me :( You have clearly done your research Em once again. The failings in the professionals that SHOULD HAVE SEEN the signs are despicable! Poor little Daniel :(

I know it's one of your older videos, but I'm just binging your videos as I only "found you" few days ago. This case of poor Daniel broke my heart so much. I lived in Coventry at the time this happened, too close for comfort. The part when he went through the bins, omg, this is a baby!!! So so sad. My heart truly truly aches for this child. RIP little gorgeous angel. 😭

I hope his lovely sister gets help as the memories impact on her life over the years, as they undoubtedly will. Our family endured some of Daniel's tortures, including the near-drowning in the bath over and over. It's hard when it's happening to you but has a million layers of heartbreak when you see it happening to your sibling and you are so small yourself there is very little you can do. As a society, as human beings, there has to be a better way than this. For every child who dies there are hundreds of thousands more who suffer every day with no relief. The 'clever' torturer doesn't let their 'toy' die because they know they'll go to prison and also know their sick pleasure will be over. 😩😫😩😭😭

Emma, you do an amazing job by calling out authorities (teachers, social workers, doctors) and society in general for many things they fail to do in these type of cases. Thank you for showing us the red flags we should be spotting and paying deep attention to.

Emma, I'm a huge admirer of your work and have been following your channel since it started and have watched your various TV appearances over the years. My daughter will be starting uni this year and wants to work in this same space. I suggested she follows this channel and reads up on your work, but she already was and still is. These stories about kids are always so hard to listen to and is the reason why I'm only watching this upload now. Just when you think humanity can't get any worse, this happens. There are no words. I don't usually comment (but do watch and like your uploads) but your compassion, empathy, professionalism and passion for your work are conveyed in these videos.

I can see and feel exactly when you want to break down and cry in your videos. I can feel it in my heart because it's usually when I'm already sobbing. I'm not able to have children. Stories like this hit me the hardest. Nature saw fit to not allow me the gift of a child, and monsters like this get three. It's so difficult not to be bitter. Thank you for telling me about Daniel. He's another child I'll keep in my heart forever, where they're safe.

This was so horrific. It broke my heart, and it's one of the only cases you've covered so far, Emma that brought me to tears. When the 'mothers' face was shown near the end...I've never wanted to claw at someones' face and eyes and shake them in the way that I wanted to that woman. She was given a beautiful, wonderful little boy...and she did nothing by abuse and allow him to BE abused. I'm glad they're both dead in the ground, but part of me wished they'd stayed alive, living in fear and solitude just like that poor little boy who they hurt. RIP Daniel. Wherever you are you live on in the hearts of those who hear your story and the professionals who put your abusers away just like they deserved. Emma I can tell how much this case effected you, but thank you so much for continuing to do what you do, and open peoples minds and hearts to cases like this because they needed to be heard, more so when the victims are no longer their to do so themselves 💖💖

I was a victim of physical, mental, emotional and verbal abuse from my single parent father, nine kids imagine that! And sexual abuse by his “father” actually his uncle as his mother dumped him there as a baby! Unfortunately he remembered that day and all the abuse he suffered from those “parental figures”. His actual uncle and aunt! Jeez! The damages! Being in perpetual fear! Abused every day! Survived it. But it has affected every day of my life. Let them burn in Hell? God says we must give forgiveness to get forgiveness, some days it’s so hard.
