"Sometimes the hardest part isn't letting go but rather learning to start over." - Nicole Sobon
Ever get that feeling of Déjà Vu?
Hello there! It's good to be back. You know what's funny? ̶N̶e̶i̶l̶'̶s̶ ̶F̶a̶c̶e̶ This is awfully similar to what happened last time with Swordsman Online, where I disappeared for a year and then came back with a completely new game. That's just the nature of the MMO genre though, I suppose. You take a long time before settling down on a new game; take an even longer time to catch up and be ready to PvP; and before you know it, a year has gone by and you didn't release any videos! But hey, it's better late than never right?
You know how in my last video, I said that I was waiting for a new Perfect World server to come out? So that was a lie. As it turns out, a new server never appeared, and my friends and I eventually got bored of waiting for one. That's my excuse. Probably not as interesting as you had hoped, but what can you do right? Perfect World has been around for over 10 years already (which is quite impressive), so I suppose it is only natural that people started moving on. Servers that let you start PvPing from day 1 became far and few in between, and those that pop up would die in mere months. So we either stayed in an endless cycle of waiting for new Perfect World servers to come out, or we seize the day and played something new. So we did. Carpe Diem. Enter: Black Desert Online (BDO).
Now, Black Desert Online has been around for 2-3 years by now, so it isn't new in that sense. It's a pretty popular game too, so you may be familiar with it yourself. But I'm late to the party, which means I have a lot of catching up to do - not just in terms of game knowledge and mechanics, but gear as well. See, this isn't exactly the same as it was 4 years ago when I started playing Swordsman Online. Back then, 1v1 was really the only thing that mattered to me. So by the time I made my video "Tomorrow", I was pretty much set in terms of game knowledge and mechanics. However, over the years, I began to value open world group PvP more and more. And as much as I always tried to preach the philosophy of Skill over Gear, it only really works up to a certain point. In open world situations where you have to deal with multiple opponents simultaneously, well, sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet. By that I mean get geared. 8 months of PvE to get to what I have today. But PvE isn't what we're here for now is it? I intend to kill people. We're here to PvP. So I started recording footage as soon as I felt PvP ready, so that I could bring to you this video today. The caveat though, is of course, that despite having 8 months of playing time under my belt, I actually have very little PvP experience. So don't sweat it if you don't see top tier gameplay in this video - I'm still learning the game. "Skill progression" is the type of progression that I play for. Consider this as more of a pilot episode if you will.
If you watched my other videos, you might also notice that the style of this video differs pretty significantly from those other ones. This is mainly because Black Desert Online is just a much faster paced game. My Perfect World videos all had to be rendered at 2x speed to look reasonable. Yet, Black Desert Online at normal speed is still way faster. My old style just didn't fit, and something had to be changed. So just like how my style for Perfect World videos was largely inspired by transcendpw, I got my inspiration for this style of editing Black Desert Online videos from VibesEdits. This video will largely feature my open world PvP experience for the past month, including various 1v1 and group PvP encounters. And since a major nerf to Ninjas hit NA servers on Jan. 23 2019, there will be a mix of clips from both before and after the nerf.
As for whether I'll be staying with Black Desert Online? The current prognosis is positive. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I no longer like Perfect World. Rather, I am starting to like BDO more. I'm completely done with any PvE on Perfect World already, but on BDO, I'm still willing to investing more time into it. It has the population to fulfill my murderous intents for the foreseeable future. Some of my friends have already transitioned over to BDO. Neil/Tsyren even made a new channel called Critical PvP at / channel . And unlike what happened with Swordsman Online, BDO's mechanics work well for both 1v1s and open world group pvp. There is no sign of BDO slowing down any time soon. BDO's server is terrible, and the lag is extremely annoying, I'll give you that. But otherwise? Not too much to complain about. I mean, I've been wrong before, but only time will tell.
Until then, I hope you enjoy this video!
