Apparently she was very nervous about shooting this scene. I have no idea why because she did an amazing job. So sad we lost her so soon. A true Canadian icon!
I've never seen Colleen Dewhurst in anything that she didn't knock out of the park. In this show she was just perfect as Murphy's Mother. When she passed away while Murphy's character was pregnant, a small FM station that I listened to had a little contest as to what would be the baby's name. I won. Naming it after the Grandmother, Avery it could be a boys or a girls name.
Colleen Dewhurst just naturally commanded attention in her personal life as well as in her acting career, and I agree with Kelly LaFlash, we lost Ms. Dewhurst far too soon.
Dewhurst was planned to become a major recurring character in the season following her death. Murphy's parents were supposed to have a dramatic love affair in Murphy's house... So sad that never happened
@@tootler23 And so was Richard Farnsworth as her brother. Saw him in Anne and saw him in The Natural and also in Comes A Horseman....lovely performances.
@@cherihoward2323 You really do! I would go as far as saying that out of all the actors in Hollywood, the best ones seem to be Canadians! Despite being American, I grew up watching a lot of the shows and movies that were produced by Sullivan Entertainment. Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Road to Avonlea, etc., were all a huge part of my childhood and teen years!
I was CONVINCED that Marilla Cuthbert was actually Candace Bergens mother. SO charming. Wish this show wasn't hung up in music royalties court. Wonderful series.
We need every episode Dewhurst was in--along with every other Murphy episode in all ten seasons. You studio execs: you went to college. Work a deal with greedy Motown. Figure it out!!!!

I stood next to her once years ago looking into a store window in NYC. I so regret not saying anything, but then didn't want to invade her space or privacy. Different era lol. Thanks for posting.
