Unless you've been in his shoes, you'll never know what he went through with his stepdad. Kids run away/left home due to issues at home. It's the fault of the adults and not the minor. He's lucky to find good people along the way and found the right path. So happy for this man! You are one in a million.
Through the eyes of my daughter, I felt all the pain you went through with your step father. Through my own experience, I felt the guilt and pain your mom went through being stuck in that situation. I have been listening to hmong stories since I was 19. I never write a comment until now. So this is my first comment on a story. This one is very touching my heart. Brother, just so you know I have mom and dad who are still alive but never support. As you know because I am a daughter they don't help you like a son. I have done everything by myself and able to own business. And I am so proud of you that you have done everything to keep you alive. To own a business is not easy.
When my cousin left to become homeless...I work in sf n everytime I walk pass the homeless I used to wonder how she was doing. Glad u didn't get into drugs etc...wonder if there's hmong food in the bay area. Glad to know there's a hmong restaurant owner. Hope everyone survived covid n still growing strong.

Brother….from very young you were a good person. You had an abusive and heartless stepdad. None of this is your fault nor you ask to be in this situation. As a child protection worker, I see this in my field daily. Children being neglect and abuse by their own parents suffers the worst. Becoming homeless and getting into the wrong crowds, doing drugs are what created within the homes. So glad that this brother took his life struggles and turn into something positive to his life. Not many homeless person regain their life back. And thanks to those who gave him another chance at life.

So sad! I cried listening to this story because I see it with my own two eyes. I don’t understand how could some parents live comfortably knowing their own kids are out living like homeless. Like the old people always say, you should still love your kids even if they look like some monkeys only. I’m glad you have such a good heart where you can forgive and heal from your past.

I am sad about your life story. But you are a smart homeless man. Even though you were homeless, you were able to save a lot of money and choose not to use it till you really need it. Everything is your mother’s fault for picking a husband over you, forget your mom, she didn’t love you to begin with that’s why she picked getting married again to your step father so get rid of your mom. You had such a sad upbringing and your baby sister’s death was your mom’s fault for leaving you with all those kids. Abandon your mother and focus on your life now and glad you turned your life around, bless your heart. I hate how Hmong mothers choose new husbands and can careless about their kids from the first marriage. I hear stories about how the step-dad would rape the girl and when the child tells her mom, the mom doesn’t believe it And there was this case where the girl called the cops on the step-dad and her mom helped hide the step-dad just so he wouldn’t get caught
