Netflix Onimusha Episode 8 Miyamoto Musashi as Oni VS Sasaki Kojiro as Genma. Musashi saves Soya from his parents. Kojiro transforms with 4 arms, Musashi use wooden stick as his sword. #MiyamotoMusashi #Onimusha #Anime
The last shot is meant to echo the statue of the two real life warriors from their battle at Ganryu Island. Musashi used an oar against Kojiro’s oversized sword. Epic.
Onimusha bosses had second phases even before souls was ever created lol heck even devil may cry bosses had second phases but yeah thanks for another casual souls comment. Everything is a souls reference at this point. Spoilers: Musashi btw is a souls character in case anyone doesn’t know.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm an Onimusha fan who wasn't disappointed in this series. Though it took me about three episodes in to actively remember that this series is happening in the Edo period-when all the other games happened during the Sengoku period prior-it still made enough sense. By the end of Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams, the Genma, their allies and even their god had been defeated. We don't exactly know how many years or decades it's been since anybody's seen or heard of a Genma, and so those chosen by the Oni clan have all but died out or pretty much retired. A lot of media lately like to romanticize that the Edo period is when Japan started to lose its warrior culture and the strength, resilience, and skillfulness in battle that came with that-and this series is no exception. Musashi is the final dreg of a generation that knew what battle-true battle-was like. This is why the younger Samurai with him struggled so much, because their idea of warrior culture is the one that the Edo period would eventually come to adopt and hammer into Japanese society moving forward. Having said that, however, Musashi is past his prime, and his experience only puts him a level above his companions. He struggles too, and he only-just barely-gets by with a relic of the past that's just about as old as he is-if we consider the first time the Oni Gauntlet appeared on Samanosuke's arm. This Onimusha series-to me-pretty much is a farewell to the age of heroes that we fans know about. Peace in the Edo period didn't just kill the storied Samurai warriors of the Sengoku era as they were known, it also killed the potential for future Onimusha that would be formidable enough to stand against a resurgence of the Genma
You just described why I enjoyed this series. I had a feeling if Capcom were to make an Onimusha title it wouldn’t involve Samonoske or any of the others characters we knew. The show gave me the same vibes as the RDR saga. A story being set during the end of an era. Which is what I enjoyed.
Also, a lot of people probably didn't know that in his older years, musashi actually wasn't a healthy man. He smoked numerous things and died of respiratory problems. I think that's why he seemed exhausted a lot of the time in this series and became more dependent on the gauntlet towards the end. But in the games, the gauntlet was used very differently.
I do not understand why a lot of people are disappointed with the Anime. I loved it. This fight scene was the best part, especially the end. I'm not disappointed
@@joejoejoej9763 I played the games as a kid and as a adult. I like the fresh new vibe it had. Honestly was nice not to see the elemental weapons and just a samurai fighting slowly becoming more of a oni
@@Sinfullybliss97 I also did play the games as kid, and came back to 100% 3 and 2 as an adult. I do think it was nice to have it's own story and pace, but it should at least have more mentions and connections to the games, not just little references. It only got good after episode 4 or around there
i grew up on the samurai warrior ps2 games and dynasty games, these characters were pretty epic. didnt play the games but i heard the story. i would like to think of this like the second game where it was a different character. that being said, this 8 episode series was pretty great and if they did this again in the future they should bring back Samanosuke.
Me whos seen what they did to a certain vampire hunter... I wasn't expecting much at first but dam it good seeing how they respected the source material, mostly at least.
lol coincidentaly I was looking at random clips from that game these past days. They did continue, there's a sequel for the PS2 but it changes the style and character design completely to the point of being unrecognazible and apparently is not very good (?)
Just for clarification : samnosuke akechi jubei yagyu and soki from dawn of dreams are actually warriors chosen by the gauntlet to slay nobunaga and the Gemma , nobunaga is the reason that samnosuke takes up his fight because the woman he cares for is kidnapped by the Gemma for her to be a bride (or sacrifice) to nobunaga once he is resurrected (he died from an arrow through the throat in the beginning of onimusha 1. Now musashi is only in the blade warriors game and he is not a true onimusha as in he is not blessed by the oni spirits or the gauntlet. He's not the main character in any of the four games nor does he support any of the main characters in the four games as an npc of any sort . Heck he's not even an enemy of either nobunaga or jubei . This movie has literally nothing to do with the games ,musashi never had a gauntlet and was never chosen to be a warrior for the oni. The director basically took the onimusha name ,a few characters and cobbled together a movie just to make a few quick bucks . Heck samurai warriors and warriors orochi did these characters more justice than this movie did . Atleast in those games they actually made these two useful in the plot . Lame movie and I'm sad Capcom gave them the green light on this .
Anime is okay but nothing as grandiose as how the game presents things. People who don't get the "complaints" probably didn't play the games or only one. If you compare this with Onimusha Dawn of Dreams ending scene for example, you'd understand. Even Onimusha 2 final fight in hell against Nobunaga was better, and that was 20 years ago...
I have to agree, I was a big fan of the Onimusha franchise back in the day and did not like the way this version stepped away from the background of the original story i.e. lack of variation in standard Genma, the whole thing about the Oni Gauntlet being a potentially bad power source that can overtake the wielder, then the whole Sayo "you are human" BS. The music score was quite good, but it generally lacked the mystical scenic gore of the original games locations. I just found the ending a real let down.
@@ShootingStar466 I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I HATE it when studios purposefully change shit instead of just giving fans exactly what they hell they want and need it's LITERALLY not that hard to stick to the source material, tweaking what you need to here and there and adding in original content.
@@ShootingStar466did you forget the gauntlet was SEALED indawn of dream? samanoske- i mean tenkai- had to go to hell to the oni mansion to get it, so yes, the game itself aluded that the gauntlet IS DANGEROUS for someone witouth oni blood or ties with them. Plus, this series takes place after the 4 main games, of curse everything will look "boring" they are living in an age of peace ffs.
Do y’all selves a favor and watch Blue Eye Samurai if you thought Onimusha was a disappointment. It’s JUST good enough to scratch that samurai itch you were expecting from Onimusha.
Is japanese story, the real fight between Musashi and Sasaki in Ganryū Island in april 13, 1612. Sasaki dies for an oar blow to the head, inflicted by Musashi, that scene in the anime alludes to that moment . You need culture in your life, so i recommend reading more before giving your opinion.
@@rodri.gomez09 Cool bit of history, but you're taking for granted that this anime is in the awkward space of "Eastern history/mythology adapted for Western entertainment": most of the audience for this will have no clue about the historical reference. Add that to the strange use of the Onimusha license and some arbitrarily chosen elements of the games (the gauntlet, the "Onimusha form", the skeleton genma) that are either partially or entirely removed from their context in the game series, and I expect a lot of people will have a lot of misconceptions about this anime. One favorable interpretation that comes to mind, though, could be that the writers see the Onimusha brand as being defined by "fantastical stories based on real events", and thus the only goal was to create a fictitious story utilizing some of the visual iconography of the games while referencing historical events for the backbone of the story. Either way you split it, most viewers aren't going to have anywhere near the levels of knowledge on the topic necessary to recognize such things at a glance.
@@Blahblahblaafmn well as a person who play Onimusha 1 to 4, this anime is pretty accurate to the plot and playstyle with the game series. Although u found it awkward, i kinda love the way the animators put the last scene cause it is pretty accurate in japanese historical and make it more cooler instead fighting only with swords. I think they not entirely removed the game context, when the music starts, i knew that the director its actually matching the synergy of game series to the anime series. i also asked my friend who watch this anime, they said its actually lit and very touching for some scene (Samurai dies*), some of my friends even curious and search about the actual event of miyamoto musashi vs sasaki kojiro. Many people prolly dont like it, but for me this series is actually pretty good.
@@rodri.gomez09 Lol I need culture? It's just a cartoon ,You're making assumptions about me and have no idea of my background. I used to play the onimusha games back in my adolescence. The fact that you took my comment that serious says a lot about you. It's an animated Japanese show based on a video game series created by Capcom, it's not real, relax buddy no need to be a jerk. I recommend being a more tactful person before giving your opinion.
@@2rockk Yeah I enjoyed as well as actually enjoyed as Onimusha fan myself who played the games and Blade Warriors, I really like how they match tone here despite it being different for some areas, and them using Toshiro Mifune model for Musashi is nice call back to the original trilogy using actual J Actor models for the protagonists like Takeshi Kaneshiro as Samanosuke and Yasuke Matsuda(R.I.P.🙏) as Jubei, but yes the way the dialogue and how the characters interact with each other was exactly how an Onimusha game does it
@@guts-141How many people do you know or think would know the history in itself? Maybe people who only know of the game wanted the same adaptation of it and would stick to the original source material. You can't expect everyone to know things as such. Especially people who watched it blindly.
@@KevBeCool I think that person watching blindly you're talking abt would be me lol Iam a racing fanboy and in terms of stuff like this I've mainly stuck to games like assasins creed and shit basically I didn't play the game I knew of its existence but rather ignored it cuz I had no real reason to well get into it anyway as someone who went in blind ngl thought the shit was cool and honestly have a new interest for the games (I've been writing exams so I've just finished and picked this show up just cause I was bored and wanted to see tf this was abt)
