Muscle Car Of The Week Video #70: 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Camaro
www.musclecarof... - Some Muscle Cars are cool because they came with the goods from the factory, while others are standouts because of modifications they received after leaving the line. In this case, this 1970 Camaro started life as a 350 powered SS car, but a trip to the Dick Harrell Performance Center was all it needed to be a monster Muscle Car built by one of the legends in Chevrolet racing. Add to the pedigree the fact that the car is an unrestored survivor with approximately 6000 miles on the clock, and you've got a winner in every way possible. It's one of only a handful built, and it still has the power to burn the hides at will. There are many souped-up cars in the Brothers Collection, but this Harrell car is one of the coolest!

gorgeous...one of if not the best looking Camaros I've ever seen in my life.

I lived in the Chicago (land) area until 1973. The street racing sense was a cross of "factory stock" (SS, Z/28, Mach 1, and Cudas) and souped-up streetcars. But Nickey Chevelles or Camaros were not uncommon, but always feared. The transplant world was life an well in the late 60's and early 70's. With no shortage of "speed shops" coping the Dick Harrell and Yenko COPO cars with "post-sale" transplant of Big Block. I'm here to tell you there was no shortage of 427 Camaros (with 350 or 396 badges on the fender) roving the streets looking for a Saturday night race..Sad to say most are gone now, so great to see this Dick Harrell survivor.

my friend in OZ has a rare one of 3 special build Ford coupe XB factory black 429 but keeps it locked away hidden from public and not exposed to the people interested in documenting it , as i showed him a articule some years ago in Australian muscle car magazine were they were searching for them 3 cars ,we used their info and found the back windscreen wiper hole and mount , and other tell tail signs was strengthen chassis rails ..still has original 429 was engineered by FORD SVO workshop in Melbourne , he says its worth half a million dollars

that would entail full documentation for that to happen ford experts would want to inspect car , at this stage his not peppered to let anyone near it , it still needs full restoration but is 100% straight panel running car , ,
@mattwright1992

I would have to say he's probably bullshiting about having that exact car and the reason I say this is because ifu have something so rare and special why not have it documented as such? It's not worth a shit unless it's verified to be real. Anyone can easily say they have something rare and valuable but the proof is in the documentation.

1969, Before i could afford a new car i was in a chevy showroom in Monroe Mi. Harry May Chevrolet, and i seen a Dick Harrell Nova, OMG i drooled all over this car it was a 1969 Nova all Black with a all Aluminum 427 ci under the hood the Nova was a 3300.00 dollar car and the eng option was 3000.00 for a total of 6300.00, there was never anything i ever wanted more than this car. in 1972 i finally had the money for a new car and i had to settle for a low compression SS 454 Chevelle 270 hp the car was red with black stripes black vinyl roof, 4 speed m22, but still i will never forget that Nova.

Cool story...and I feel your pain...when I had just joined the Marines in '75 I looked at a pristine '70 Chevelle 454 on a Chevrolet dealer lot...the 450 HP monster...had I just stretched myself I could have bought it but I was a bit too conservative so thought I'd wait a year or two and save some money...of course by then I never saw another pristine one again...but I did buy a very well maintained '65 Vette roadster with the brand new BBC 396 425 HP engine...that was a running car....and oh did the girls like it...ohhh those were the days...a young Marine with 425 HP vette vert....fun times.

I had a '72 Nova that color......when I first got it I thought it was the most beautiful color in the world.....it didn't take long to get tired of it. I can't explain why as it looks beautiful right now.....go figure. By 30K the engine was pumping oil like a Texas gusher.....again, I don't know why. I'd traded my '70 Roadrunner for it and I will always regret it. Chevy must of had some quality control problems (as usual) back then.

Motion Performance built a black 70 454 Camaro. GM almost produced them, but, the government made it too much trouble to even build limited special production numbers. Camaros were not heavy enough, and the wheelbase was too short.

Corvettes are sports cars, not muscle cars. Do you mean the 1969 ZL1 427 Corvette? Chevy only built 2 or 3 of those. However they did build 69 ZL1 427 Camaro's in 1969. The 1969 ZL1 427 COPO Camaro just happens to be my favorite Chevy ever to come from the true muscle car era.

I would love to own this car. Chevrolet should have installed the 454 LS6 in the Camaro in 1970. My present collector car is the 1970 SS 396 L-34 car with headers and dual exhaust very fast. But I did own one of the 600 1970 SS 396 L-78 Camaros that I sold in 2001. It was numbers matching, except for the headers. It had Muncie M-21 4 speed, 12 bolt posi with optional 4:10 gears. Very fast.
@jeremythompson9895
@jeremythompson9895 5 лет назад
Me too. I actually always preferred the 66-69 L72 427/425 hp to the LS6. Seemed like it had a nastier sounding idle and basically the same power as an LS6. I'll bet your 70 SS396 was bad ass though for sure, especially with 4.10 gears and a 4 speed. Love the 70-73 body style, just not as much as I love the 67-69
