Muscle Car Of The Week Video #82: Stan Antlocer And The World's Fastest Pontiac Tempest
#musclecar #v8tv
This week, we have a special episode of Muscle Car Of The Week featuring an exclusive interview with Stan Antlocer, former owner / driver of the 1963 Stan Long Pontiac Super Duty Tempest. This car was known in Super Stock A/FX racing as the "World's Fastest Tempest" and was a record holder. It is one of the 6 lightweight factory built cars made. Today, the car is completely restored, and we reunited Antlocer with the 421-powered monster after he last saw it back in 1964. It is one of the many vintage race cars in the Brothers Collection.

Thanks for sharing this video. It is really great to see someone reunited with their car many years later. I would love to do this for my dad.

My dad sold Pontiacs in '63. Picked me up at school one day in a Tempest - brand new right off the truck! He owned '62 Bonneville at the time. I didn't recognize him sitting there in the Tempest even as he tooted the horn.. I finally heard his voice...we laughed.. I jumped in and he started giving me the sales pitch about Pontiac's newest "little" car. Salesman to the end...

I had one of these. But it had the 2 speed automatic in the rear with a half a V-8 and 4 barrel carb. the torque converter was on the engine and it had a covered drive shaft that bolted the engine to the trains axle rear end. the half a V-8 had the left side cylinders cut off and one barrel per cylinder!

Whatever happened to Tim Benko and the Bill Knafel Anderson Pontiac "Running Bear" driven by Arlen Vanke? I was around 12 years old when Tim found that car here in my town of Elyria, Ohio. He was plowing snow at a local trailer park and seen the Tempest.. upon further inspection he seen the access panel in the trunk for the original quickchange rearend.. all the original aluminum body panels were present except for the hood.. and it had no engine or trans. Just like the white tempest in this video, the original rearend was swapped out for a larger third member style pontiac rearend from a different model. He seen it had heater and radio deletes in it and he just KNEW that car was something special. He offered the owner $2500 and they accepted his offer!! I seen that car at Tim's shop (because my dad was friends with Tim.. and my dad raced 409 Chevy's) many times over the followiing few years as he finished the restoration. Now its been about 20 years since ive seen Tim and/or the car. Periodically ill check online for new posts/details on the car but all I ever find is the one single video of the car in 2006 at Norwalk when Arlen seen the car for the first time since 63. Would love to know the current status of Running Bear if anyone has any updated information. Thank!

The prestige of your collection is greatly enhanced by this car. Despite the “world’s fastest Pontiac” speed claim, it’s about 30 mph short of its factory-prepped ancestor which, on the banked oval of Daytona, humiliated Ferraris and race-prepped Corvettes. The Super Duty paved the way for the muscle car generation that followed, and in addition was successful in both stock car and drag racing. And, it validated the visionary credentials of the man who created it from a modest economy car: John DeLorean.

GREAT car and an awesome story teller. I would love to sit and talk 1 on 1 w/Stan. What i find interesting is the car in the background at the 2:50 mark. It appears to be a 66 Dodge Charger,but it looks burnt and has a trophy on it. Must be some crazy rare car the have that besides all the beauties in this collection. Glen

I had a '67 Tempest with the not well known, but mentioned here, 326 HO...beyond a hotter cam and 4 barrel dual exhaust they also had slightly higher compression. I forget the factory HP rating...I want to say 245 but they were pretty darn fast. I beat a couple camaros and even a '68 Bullitt Highland Green Mustang GT with a 390.
@sergeantmasson3669
@sergeantmasson3669 Год назад
Steve Fowler, only two "Bullitt" Mustang were ever built in 1968. Both had 400+ HP 390 engines in them. No way that you ever beat either of them.

It is such an impeccable restoration, the only bummer is they missed the mark by putting autometer gauges in it instead of sourcing some vintage period correct gauges that were used in the car, the amount of money paid for the car & then the cost of restoration, it could have easily been done.......attention to detail

I had a schoolmate that had oneof these that had a 26 V/8 in it. They came with a trans axle. He blew four of those out so Pontiac .cut the tranny housing out for his and installed a four speed tranny in it. It went like hell but then he got drunk one night and totalled the car.
