My brother passed away in 2021 and left me his 67 GTO, which has been just sitting since. This was just the inspiration I needed to try to get it going. Thanks, Dalton.
Hey Dalton, as someone who got seriously ill from spraying spray paint and being around the fumes, even with a KN 95 mask, I found a decent dual filter painter’s mask on EBay for a surprisingly low cost. I won’t spray without it anymore. If you don’t want to use one for big spraying jobs, please at least get one for JD, his lungs are still young and they’re the only set he’ll ever have.
I’ve told him similar, but without that kind of experience. My old man briefly met the man who invented spray paint cans, and he said he would never personally use one because of breathing paint. Told my dad he shouldn’t use them either. Dude was rich af. Forget exactly how they met I think the guy was friends with his boss or something.
I literally painting my last vehicle about three vehicles go just using a mask and yeah, your eyes are even at North us so basically, now I have a full face shield for Spring or any super noxious fuels but mostly just spring anything via cans or paint it might help to add that if people don’t know what I’m talking about it’s a full face with a respirator included, which you can swap out the filters at least up here in Calgary There’s a place called KMS tools and U fusion get the filters and even a face mask for a decent price
Dalton, I obviously don’t know you from Adam but I’m very happy that RU-vid has afforded you the opportunity to purchase these vehicles. You’ve got the perfect temperament for this kind of work. As an ol Missouri boy myself(opposite end from you deep in the bootheel), rest assured that I support your ventures.
I support this comment. JDS and Junkyard digs/mook are good ones too. I have my “larger” car guys like VGG, Cleetus, JH, TA, etc…. But I love the little guys that do it how you and me can afford😊
Grass roots are better than corporate roots. Not told what they can/can't do, not accepting many sponsors unless the product is used and proven, no shareholders or production companies to pay. That's how it should be!! Grass roots 4 life!!!! PBG forever!!!!!
Dalton Been watching your show off and on for about 2 years or so I really like your content But your foul language turns me away from your channel and I imagine many other people I would really appreciate it if you could chill out on the foul language Thanks Jp
I'm so stoked to see this bad mother get painted. I love that you don't just "LET THE PATINA SHOW THROUGH" on beautiful old cars, you bring them back to their original-ish glory with body work and a paint job.
My grandfather passed away a while ago and he left my mom his 64 GTO he bought new in 63 and everything on it is original except the 406 he put in it in 2008. the crager SS wheels on it are one year younger than the car itself. Much respect and support from Eastern Iowa! ❤
R.I.P to your pops, lost my dad about 9yrs ago know the feeling. It's more than car that he left behind, but more the memories and sentimental memories that he made with the car. Never get rid of it at all cost 👌😎
Finally! Someone who is not a huge fan of patina, loves white lettered tires, chrome mags, and a shiny car. Doesn't have to be perfect, just look cool. I get so disappointed when I see other people take an iconic American Muscle Car, throw tons of money at the engine, suspension, and sometimes interior but refuse to address the rust on and under the car because it looks "cool." A 1952 International pickup farm truck might look ok with patina, but not a muscle car. I'm old enough to remember when most of these cars were new. I get repairing/rebuilding on a budget. We've all had to do that, but when you have a little cash and really sink your teeth into something, you're a damn fine mechanic. This build is going to be a treat. First year of the iconic GTO/LeMans/Tempest body style through 67. It's gonna be fun. You're funny as hell, too. The well-spoken but deadpan delivery is a hoot. Keep on rocking!
agreed. to me, patina is just a pile of junk you cant be bothered/afford to fix properly so you throw money at the wrong areas of the car. Patina on something like the Holey Goat tells its story. on a 'regular' vehicle, it just makes it look worn out and ready to be put in its final resting place/parted out.
@@petelattimer6808 Absolutely agree, but some people just LOVE their patina. I was at a car show last year, and a friend and I were looking at a 1962 Chrysler 300 Sport Coupe with a factory manual floor shift. Can't remember if it was a 383 or a 413. The car was in great shape but had surface rust on the body (patina) and needed an interior. No big deal. I told my friend that this car was great, it just needed a decent paint job, and new seat upholstery and carpet. I told him that the "patina" made the car look like a rust bucket. Well, the owner of the car (whom I didn't know) overheard me and got really ticked off and offended because he heard me say that I didn't like patina and beat up seats on a classic car. It was not my intention to insult the guy or his car, I didn't know he was listening to my conversation. At any rate, I just walked away. I felt sorry for the car. It deserved a better owner. And I've never seen the car again. If the guy loves rust, more power to him.
@@michaelharper-uw3dn Patina has its place like I mentioned above. If I were attending a car show/cruise-in and saw a patina car, such as maybe a classic Dodge Charger or some other classic, it wouldn't matter to me how much money was thrown at the engine or undercarriage. All I would see in my mind's eye is a rust bucket POS. My show cars were never perfect but they were clean, detailed and as rust free as I could make them. But whatever floats their boat, I guess.
If PBG ever ventures into making power tools, I would like to pitch a pressure washer hooked up to a 55 gallon drum of brake clean. Just think of the savings compared to all those spray cans! Plus you could add an igniter from a barbecue and turn it into a flame thrower.
"Most channels wash the car first" - You sir, are a badass. Thank you for your content and knowlege. I don't even fix cars, I watch you because you aren't a jerk and I learn stuff I may never use... but I learn new stuff.
Dalton, when you and JD were winding through the gears on the '64 4 speed, the laughter and sheer joy was something that HAS to evoke a big grin from anybody with a heartbeat! So There! JD, Buddy, enjoy this time as it is special indeed. I look forward to the continuation of this build, reminds me of a buddy's car in high school that was thoroughly enjoyed.
Can confirm as a motorcycle mechanic that 7:15 is most certainly an industry term. I'm also from the U.K so can confirm it's even an inter continental one. Bonnet-hood Gearbox-Transmission boot-trunk wing-fender Manual-stick Petrol-Gas Silencer-muffler, we can agree to disagree on those, but "It's f**ked'' is one we all agree on in all English speaking nations.
I really hope this revival is followed by a full build series. This car deserves it, and maybe you can incorporate some of the pending skygoat go fast goodies into the build. Automatics are nice, but that extra pedal makes any car fun.
The look JD gave when you said the batteries were dyeing so you had to go home was priceless. Another video that you wish would never end. 100% enjoyment throughout.
This makes me beyond happy. I come from a Pontiac family, my mom drove us around in a four door '65 LeMans for years. This one is what I wished that car was
Just finished watching Kevin and his luxury land yacht and now this! Friday has just gotten so much better now! Love getting the early videos and helping you "Not Lose the Shop!"
"It's not just a car,it's a Pontiac". Great line Sir. I'm 54 and grew up around Pontiacs. Thank you for bringing back some great memories of a great period in my life. Keep being You and don't change a thing!!
16:45 Super Clean FOAMING Tough Task Cleaner-Degreaser works AMAZING! I was Very Impressed with the ease of Application and the POWER of the cleaner! I have to have several bottles of it for my vehicle, because it's a Lincoln and there is a little oil leak, unheard of, yes. Thank you Super Clean Brands for giving Pole Barn Garage that product to demonstrate with! Send him more! I'm buying some right now!!
@@RustyZipper I've gotten by with Simple Green for practically everything thus far. Sometimes reaching for a random can of "Engine Degreaser" of some type. Thanks for the testimonial on Super Clean Purple. Have a great weekend!
Awesome! Glad to join the low buck club. Keeping me motivated getting my 66 Mercury Parklane going. Sat since 1986 in a barn, drove under it's own power for the first time last week. Learned a ton from what you are doing here.
Cool Le Mans, I was so happy to see you guys didn't undercoat the driveshaft! A friend of mine used to work at a Dodge dealership in the early 70's in Florida, where they supplied the local Police Department with their squad cars. He undercoated ALL the police car driveshafts as a graduation gift to himself. There were lots of vibration soaked police cars on patrol! Great content! Keep it up!!!
Buddy I am with you 100% on the patina crap. I like/want shiny paint! I think patina is just a lazy way to get out of body work and paint. Anyway love the Le-mans!
Was just looking for something to watch while I eat lunch working my 6th day straight this week. Man these cars are awesome! And it's a 4 speed, dude you scored.
@@mad-mason0319 🤷♂️ I’m 27 and still ain’t got drunk at a barn. Nobody says you gotta. I got my binge drinking out of the way while it was still illegal. Don’t let it ruin ya. Alcoholics are so annoying.
I like the uncertainty on JD’s face as you bang gears and he eyeballs the gauges and listens to the engine push through the clutch! She’ll come around with a few more parts thrown at it. Cool hot rod rake and the wheels are spot on!
I’ve been running to Ollie’s every couple of weeks to hourd brake cleaner and carb cleaner to begin my slow rebuild of my 69 C10. Cleaning out garage and building work benches. Pretty soon I won’t have any excuses to not begin my build.
Hi Dalton. It is so fun to see you excited about the car. I look forward to seeing you resto-mod it. I'll watch as you go along and then watch the playlist all the way through.
Back in the day, I drove a "68 Firechicken, 400 H/O, fully muscled out. Just like Dalton said, this wasn't just a car, it was a Pontiac! It carried it's balls in a wheelbarrow too.
Yup !!! I found PBG from Kevin's channel (Junkyard Digs) but I like Dalton and JD WAY better, oh also if Dalton's wife is willing to get into the trunk to lay down some sound flashing, you know she's a keeper.
WOW! Man that was another fun build! That is a cool old Pontiac! I think Batman and Robin here??? The Dynamic ,,,,,,, Holy Bat POOP Batman! The incredible Classic Hot Rod Crusaders of yesteryear! Come back from somewhere in the past to entertain and AMAZE you! The worn down Blue paint must of looked pretty nice when new! You just make it look easy!!!! Fun car for sure and a flash Back to my High School daze!!!!Yes,, get the interior under control and some tunes installed in her and there you have it! A fun and dependable street racer,,, or as needed! You are looking back to your old self finely! Keep the great entertainment coming our way!! Thanks!
I'm in the process of building my 80s s10 blazer 4wd 4 speed v6 and I could only get the courage to do this because of people like you thank you Dalton
Man I had a 64 lemans for 2 days , I bought it for 100 bucks from my uncle , spent 2 days fixing it all up and put new cragers all around, was all black Looked sweet, took it to keg party after a football game and saw a friend walking, so I gave him a ride , he threw a cigarette out the window and it flew back in, I parked the car and later someone said it was smoking The whole car burned before the fire department could get there, the tow truck driver took my rims as payment for the tow Was supposed to be my car when I turned 16 , shame I loved that ride, enjoy yours bro
What a fun video, I can absolute dig the slamming gears and opening up the 400! I know you're a Pontiac guy so I will share a short story that I have from 15 years ago. My son and I went downstate Michigan to buy a bunch of second hand Cragar SS wheels from this place that happened to look like an old garage/ small junk yard. Inside the old hanger building that looked abandoned there was tons of GTO parts brand new from GM. Engines, body parts, interior parts and I even realized on the wall was a whole car sitting there. The guy there with me said his Dad worked for Pontiac during the 50's -80's and was able to get all kinds of stuff back then maybe for free? The car was very rare he said it was a July 1963 build Tempest convertible 389 4v 4 speed car with a rearend instead of the transaxle. From what he said it was one of the last 63 Tempest built before the changeover for the 64 models. Any how loved the video and can't wait to see more of the Lemans and of course the Buick builds (I am a Buick guy)!
True story, I bought a 1997 Honda Civic coupe, swapped the single cam 1.5L (D15B) for a dual cam 1.8L (B18B1) from a junkyard, put an eBay turbo kit on it with supporting mods (bigger injectors, fuel pump, ARP head studs, Cometic MLS head gasket), got it street tuned using Crome the cheapest way possible, and it ran a 14.7 @ 100 MPH on 8 lbs of boost spinning all the way through 2nd on very hard 205/40/17 cheap tires...and I missed the 2-3 shift. I paid $1000 for the car, the engine was $250, the GSR transmission was $250, the turbo kit was $450, the supporting mods were probably $500 all-in, and the tune was $100. So for around $2100 I had a car that looked good and was really fun to drive. I'm sure there are plenty of y'all who can beat that story, so let me hear them! This was just one of mine.
£650 Skoda Octavia 1.8t 20v 4x4 got given bigger turbo injectors and a fmic for free from my friend. Tuned it cost me £260. So £910 for a 300bhp family estate car with 4wd and only weighs 1500kg 👌🏿👌🏿 it’s a pretty fun car real loud spits flames exhaust comes out the side made it all with me friend. I love doing things cheap 👌🏿👌🏿
In 2003 I purchased a 1992 Corolla from a college student who forgot that engines require oil. I gave the kid $100 for the car. Being a Toyota mechanic I put a crank kit in it, dingle balled the cylinders and put new rings in it and lapped the valves and put new valve stem seals in it . Timing belt and associated parts and it was running like new. The car put two of my children through college and then I use it to “kick around “ in because gas prices went up. Other than tires, belts, and regular maintenance it’s not needed any unscheduled repairs. The a/c is still ice cold and never had a drop of freon added to the system. It’s old and ugly so I have something in common with it. I told my son that if it ever lays down on me because of the engine or transmission I’m going to mount the valve cover on my shop wall and I’ll make an end table out of the block. The rest of her will be recycled and likely shipped to China where it will be used to make some crappy products that will help put an American company out of business. I guess in our day that’s the Circle of Life.
Now you're talking love the 64 I had one in 67 and Put a 427 BB L88 and a M22 in 456 gears M&H slicks 12 bolt posi and street raced the hell out of it sunoco 260 was 35 cents a gallon what a great time in my life I was 25 then ,
You wanna know how I know Dalton is now editing with Premier Pro -- the double--first frame audio on transitions. Classic. All that said, I really am just guessing. Not that anyone cares what I use or think, but I've had much better luck with DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut. Great video as always Dalton! What a beautiful LeMans
@@Effect2o to be honest, it just seems like a phenomenon I ran into myself with it, but now that you say that you've never run into it, maybe I'm thinking of vegas or something.
@@spottedtango Once I read it, I got scared. I have gotten into a routine and dont check. Now im worried that some of my stuff could be doing this and I have no idea. lol 😯
God I love it Dalton!!!! I agree with everything you did to it but I might have opted for a dual service master cylinder. I have crap for luck with old rusty brake lines. I definitely love the sound, the air shocks, and the Cragars!!!! One thing I will never understand is why people think it's cool to lower their trucks. A truck is meant to be lifted. I see duallies running around scraping the ground. What the hell good is that when it's time to hook the gooseneck up? It's like putting a lift kit on a Corvette. Blasphemy as far as I'm concerned. And then I've seen them lower them and put air bags on it. They go on a long road trip and guess what fails? The bags!!! So they have their other toys loaded up on a gooseneck being pulled by what looks like a sparkler running down the road. Just stupid. But I love what you are doing and can't wait to see Part 2 on this. I am expecting much improvement on the interior and hopefully a decent paint job on the body. Thanks for the content!!!!!!
The Big "Little GTO" Book is how I came to become aware of these amazing cars as a 15 year old dumbass. Now, as a somewhat older dumbass, the '64 Tempest/GTO has only grown on me. Can't wait to see what you do with this beauty, Dalton.
@@PoleBarnGarage - all kinds of gems in that. I haven't read it in a dog's age but I remember the author interviewed retired UAW workers who built GTOs.I guess Pontiac did all the rear axles for Buick/Olds/Pontiac and the woman who inspected/tested them made sure all the best/most quiet axles went to Pontiac, haha. They also talk about how people building cars for drag racing could special order them with no rear seats, no undercoating, etc. It's a really cool read.
Dalton this is taffy from the uk i so enjoy every vid you do . and i and my son have just converted his 90 bmw , early cars are so expensive in the uk, even those been sat for yrs i know what i have keep up the good work . i even watch my favourite episodes more than once
Dalton, I'm a 41 year old man, living in the UK... I need a change in my life before my life becomes too much, Got a shed I can sleep in on property, Feed me and I'll work for free..
Hey Dalton, it’s probably been said a lot, so I’ll say it again, another top tier episode! Ever since you went full time the quality has increased exponentially. Not that it was bad before but with more time you have really taken it up ten levels. 💯
thats what i want to hear from all the restoration channels man , i mean what you said in the end , your going to spend more time on this car , thank you so much for the video Dalton , i will not miss the next episode on this car
I've said it at least once in your comments but I'm a few beers deep and I'm gonna say it again. I appreciate your no bs attitude and honesty on what you spend. I'm currently pulling the body off my truck and always told myself it needs to be perfect whatever I do. It does not, your ways are affordable and make it so much faster and easier to get your project on the road. You have given me so many ideas and tricks I would not have thought of. One day i hope to shake your hand. Keep it brother, we love it!
Seeing the unbridled joy when you were ripping on the gas is just...this is why I love old cars and those who revive them. So good, thank you Dalton, from a car girl to a car guy, for putting this experience out on RU-vid for those of us who have been wrenching since we were up to your knee! Much love!
Man, I love your passion for Pontiac...my favorite auto maker since my Dad bought a '70 Goat brand new. I simply LOVED this video, and you're dead bang right about those rims. Perfect.
To start, huge congratulations on almost quarter of a million subscribers. That has gone up loads, and deservedly so. What a great bare bones car. It is a blank canvass, waiting for your genius to be unleashed. It is quite a menacing looking thing. I find it weird that it was only half upgraded though. From a 6 to an 8 without power brakes, and also the lower spec radiator staying put. It was pretty half assed as s someone I follow has been known to say... Hey, it's Jim. Hi Jim. The dynamic you two have is one of the best ever. You compliment each other so well. Always good to him joining in. Breaks with the brakes. Whoda thunk that! JD getting stuck in without complaint as always. It has never been shown in your videos, but do the two of you ever bicker and argue at all? The way your relationship is shown, I kinds doubt it, but you are father and son so there must be the odd spat from t time to time. THOSE WHEELS!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 Cosmetics make a hell of a difference to old cars. Cosmetic items on new cars looks daft, but they really make an old car stand out. You sir, have impeccable taste. Oooh, I like the new basic t-shirt. If only it did not cost 5 times the cost of the t-shirt to get it to me. Damn postage charges. That "fancy funnel" for the radiator filler. I wonder who that someone was that sent it to you :-} Itr is so cool to see things being used that fans send to you. It sounds hot man, fricken brilliant. Is it cammed out? It truly sounds glorious. PMSL! I was screaming at you to use the plug in the rad filler thingymajobit. The cold start gets one of those stupid chef's kisses that I loath, but thought it was a good use of one here. What a difference just cleaning the glass makes to the whole car. I love it. I still want the Torino though. The laughter is infectious. That is what it is all about, right there 58:21. GM, why oh why, in your infinite wisdom, did you discontinue Pontiac? The stance was you were filling up with fuel looks impeccable. It is a really nice car. Is it going to get more love? I assume so, so there will be much more of it to see. LOL at your concentrating reversing face. I think we must all do that. Starting on episode 2. Great news to hear there will be more. The drive by noise is so so good. You hit the jackpot with your exhaust choice, fitment issues considered. Thank you for the upload,,, ooh there's more. Fancy air cleaner. Where was I? Oh yes, thanks for the upload. 4 incredible people in one video. I am so grateful that I happened to watch a JYD video that you were in, and I have been hooked by both channels ever since. Neil :-}
I love the GTO's. 64-67 were the best with 65 being my favorite year. Would love one day to own one. I love the box look to them. The front grill and the rear lights. Gorgeous ride, especially with the sweet hood on them.
Brother I think you have the best channel on RU-vid, keep em coming. Love that 64, I would rather drive that than a brand new one. I`m a retired and partly disabled Florida State Trooper , but I`m an old school mechanic too and I love this stuff.
Dalton this thing is awesome! I personally love the patina look, but I’m glad you have the skills to restore the car to the way that YOU want! I’m excited to see what you do with it.
