@@KeyOfGeebz The guitar sound in the song was inspired by the 1962 number one hit "Telstar" by The Tornados (George Bellamy, Matt Bellamy's father, was the band's rhythm guitarist). This track has often been used as either the opening or closing track of their main set for many years and has rarely been off the setlist 16 years later. Often the song is preceded (when closing the main set) with the bassist Chis Wolstenholme playing Ennio Morricone's "Man with a Harmonica" on the harmonica. Also check out any of the live versions which do sound a lot better. The best of these is probably from Rome 2013 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eNV9gv0NmzU.html

He does that quite often, I find that both impressive and enjoyable but I feel like many people dont realize it, even in live versions. Actually I believe it originally comes from an old live from around year 2000 where he broke the strings of his guitar during a solo and he replaced it by singing really high like he knows to do. At least thats what I heard

Bellamy is on an entirely different level from a lot of people, and he doesn't quite get the respect he deserves. I think people hear Muse and think of Twilight and don't give them a chance. This song was my first introduction to Muse through Guitar Hero. From there, I found Assassin, and Starlight, Supermassive Blackhole, then the rest of this album. What really sent me over the top and made me a lifelong fan, was when I came across a broadcast of a live performance by Muse at some festival (Isle of Wight, maybe?) and I realized that the lead singer was also the lead guitarist and was playing those mind bending riffs while also singing melodies that are totally opposite of what he is playing, and I was absolutely blown away! I’ve listened to every Muse album (except the most recent, just haven’t gotten around to it), and they have definitely become my favorite band. My favorite songs are “New Born”, “Plug In Baby”, “Muscle Museum”, “Thought Contagion”, “I Belong to You” and “Starlight”, and I definitely recommend watching a live performance at some point.

So nice to watch somebody experience this song forgot the first time. Agree with all of your (humorously apologetic) observations and laughed because I was thinking about Deep Purple too. My uncle played me some of their stuff when I was maybe 14 and I ended up listening to a classic rock station for a couple of years in the morning on the drive to work. Love that they included that vibe in this track that has grown on me more every time I listen to it and I now feel that it's a bit of a masterpiece really. One that starts with.... UFOs and horses. And now I feel compelled to watch Cowboys and Aliens. And this is how my Saturdays roll out lol. Cheers!

One of the best Tracks to come out of the naughties. Definitely one of my favorite songs of all time! I'm still here.
