I can clearly hear and understand the changes to the new sound library that have vastly improved the playback ability of Musescore, but there are still SO many technical glitches throughout that make it impossible to work with. Brass specifically has an uncanny amount of issues; as a brass player and writer, I'm forced to stick with MS3 until the new brass sounds become usable. Some of the things I hear are really quite beautiful, but there are lots of glitchy moments that make me think, "How did we go backwards?" I sincerely hope they fix some of these major issues quickly; it's a lovely software that I'd like to be able to use soon.
@@tacomonster Interesting. I had read online that the old sounds would be unavailable with the new update without downloading additional software. I’ll look into it. Thanks for the lead
I copied the HQ soundfont from MS3 into MS4 and it seemed to work fine. Just set it as the chosen sound in the mixer and you have the functionality of MS4 with the sounds of MS3.
Another thing I was wondering about-- I've been considering making longer versions of these videos (could be upwards of 10 minutes rather than the usual 4-5). Thoughts?
The advantage of shorter videos is you can cover more song examples in the amount of time you have available to invest. My biggest suggestion would be to switch between the various options being compared more--especially if you're making a longer video.
Hi there. As for the cimbasso sounds, there is no cimbasso used in The Planets, or the vast majority of the classical repertoire. The tenor tuba, or euphonium, is not currently supported by MS4 (unfortunately, as the euph is a fundamental instrument in the wind ensemble). The regular tuba soundbank does not extend high enough to cover the euph's range (also unfortunate, as much of the range seen in this piece is used by the regular orchestral bass tuba). The other alternative, the trombone, is not an acceptable alternative. The sound is too dissimilar and, in the first place, not accurately representative of the orchestral trombone sound.
Thanks for the comparaisons! I'd love to hear some Rachmaninoff, I think it would be interesting with his complex writing style Adagio from the 2th symphony for example?
Is this using muse sounds? The default sound font for MuseScore 4 and musescore 3 are different. Anyways you sounds also doesn’t support tenor tuba neither bass oboe. How did you get the sounds for those?
I've been doing some messing around of my own and I've personally found that one piece that I really like is the Wieder sehr breit from the 5th movement of Mahler's 2nd symphony.
