Jody Samson designed the original swords, he was also the same person who designed the benchmade Balisongs that were originally pcc back in the 80’s. He was a legend when making blades. Rip
Yeah I've got number 4 of the atlantean from Albion. Jody sharpened the blade. Also got quoted in their 20th anniversary book about the atlantean sword. I had made a version of the atlantean sword. They had a contest about guessing the length of the cord wrapped around the handle. I guess just a fraction under 26 ft. Something like 25'.897" actually answer was 26 ft. I won that contest but I also had bought number 4 Atlantean sword and got to talk about it. Really cool thing about the book and sword.
@@donivanpotter2762 When Jody was making these I had considered buying one even at $3k but now he has died the Albion Conan sword is just another replica maker albeit the best still. Without Jody the link with the movie is lost. You think Albion might re-adjust the price lower not higher.
Actually, Ron Cobb, the production designer, designed the swords and Jody Samson built them. Cobb was one of the best production designers in the business with credits that include "Star Wars", "Alien", "Total Recall", Conan and many others. He has a cameo in "Conan" as the Black Lotus dealer.
Windlass is good. Nice swords. I have Marto Special Edition (check my video). However I highly recommand not to swing or cut with them. They are just too heavy for that.
Oh yeah way too heavy, these are collectible display pieces for me, not to be used. However I like that they are real, but hate how they need constant maintenance to stop corrosion.
@@RonaldVegan67 I suppose it depends on where you live, high humidity you’d need to look after them more. I do mine every 6 months to a year but they are boxed and I see very minimal spots appear that I just polish off.
I'm actually got both albion's atlantean and father's sword. I'm guessing the distal taper of the atlantean makes it more balanced. The first swords were made from 5160 spring steel. I know they switched it later on. The father's sword I'm guessing has that same distal taper but it's heavier than the atlantean or at least feels heavier. It's easier to hold the Atlantean one-handed than it is the hold the Father sword one handed.
