The desert storm might've been magic. The novel notes it's static. They tried waiting it out, but it didn't abate or move. So Rudeus used some Saint-tier Earth magic he learned at uni.

The reason why Elinalise holds a grudge against Paul is revealed in the fourth arc of the Paul Gaiden. It was part of the mobile game that started in '21, but was discontinued not long after. Only the first two arcs got properly included in the game, but the devs released the transcript. First arc ended with Paul beating the ever-living shit out of his five-year-old little brother (Pilemon, and he deserved it) and escaping the Notos manor, second arc ended with him forcing himself on Lilia (which she most certainly didn't deserve) and escaping her father's sword hall, third arc ended with recruiting Ghislaine and renaming the party Paul had gathered, the fourth arc ended with Rudeus' birth. I managed to hunt down a copy after a few link rot-suffering leads. I'll give plenty of spoiler spacing here if you want the deets. so, SPOILERS SPOILERS WARNING LAST WARNING HERE GOES CONTEXT: Paul was friends-with-benefits with both Ghislaine and Elinalise for a while. He picked up Zenith and grew closer to her as time went by and they helped her climb the ranks so she could join their party. They ended up confessing while on a labyrinth dive and had their first night not long after the party reached S-rank. Paul became a nag to the others for two months until they started telling him off at a meeting. Zenith passed out at the meeting and they found out at a clinic she was pregnant. WHAT PAUL DID: Paul immediately declared he's disbanding the party and retiring with Zenith. He said to the others that he'd never needed them in the first place and he can and will walk away from them, and that he's taking the reward money from their latest job. So that's what he did. Geese and Ghislaine had to hold Elinalise and Talhand down as Paul walked away holding Zenith by her arm. He cashed out the reward money (as he was the party leader) and disbanded the party at the Guild. Then he beelined it from the King Dragon Realm (big country to the south of Shirone) to Roa and begged on his knees for Philip to give him a job and a house. Geese had known him the longest, so he let it be water under the bridge. Ghislaine didn't really care once she also came under Philip's employ, but Talhand and Ghislaine had held the grudge the longest. Talhand seems to have come to terms with Paul, but you'll have to see how Elinalise takes her seventeen-year-old grudge to Rapan.
