Fun fact: The character of Jotaro is heavily inspired by Clint Eastwood, so he's actually designed to be incredibly badass. "Just in the way he stands, Eastwood projects a commanding presence backed by inteligence and discipline. As a character based on that image, so too does Jotaro pose an intimidating figure just by standing with his hand in his pocket" ~Hirohiko Araki in his book "Manga In Theory And Practice"

Jotaro is known for suddenly turning the tides of battles and he is one of the strongest characters often finishing the fights with a barrage of fists usually turning every bone of his opponent into dust so his theme has constantly changing tones and quiet menacing pauses followed up with big bold triumphant outbursts And his dad is a sax player so maybe thats why theres so much brass

This main theme is basically just "the main character is about to turn you into a human golfball"

Variety is a good way to describe Jojo. The story begins in the late 1800s and follows the Joestar bloodline jumping from one generation to the next. Each time changing protagonist, setting, antagonist ect. Over the course of 30s years the series changes alot starting out admittingly cheesy and evolving into a very unique thing of its own that equally cool/funny/strange.

JoJo's music can be epic, heroic, weird, menacing and even more. As for the menacing part, the villain theme(actually two themes for the same villain) that fits this category the most is Kira's theme: *"Killer"* and *"Another face, Same mind"* are made by Yugo Kanno, the same composer that did Jotaro's theme and Giorno's theme. These two songs show how versatile he can be writing music. One moment we're in for a main character fight against a major villain(Jotaro's or Giorno's theme playing) and in another moment we're being chased by a serial killer(Kira's themes).

When you watched Stardust Crusaders, 11:41 is the moment the MC outplayed the opponent. The feeling is good as if you outplayed someone by simply listening to it.

As a fan of this show, these pieces always feel like an encapsulation of the character itself through the show. Every departure, translation, return, distraction, return again feels like you could point to the episode or moment it’s supposed to represent. These are always such amazing pieces that are perfect for a show called Bizarre Adventure.

I don;t know if anyone else has mentioned this or pointed it out but Jotaro's dad is a literal jazz musician who is always on tours and stuff in the series! So sometimes Jojo fans will jokingly say "Jotaro's dad returned just long enough to make this track after not being in his life for like 15 years"

For a bit of context, this is the song that plays when a villian is about to get ORA'D.

Yugo Kanno has made themes for almost every character who appears in the series as of his starting with this third Part, Stardust Crusaders. & that barely scratches the surface even then. Also - this could potentially be one of, if not, the first theme he created for the entire series back as early as 2013 - maybe even earlier. This debuted with the teaser trailer for JoJo SdC back in December 2013, and it aired on April 4th, '14

I just started watching the JoJo series at the beginning of this year (it’s all on Hulu) and it is fantastic. Honestly, I thought it was a little weird at first but it grows on you very quickly. Every season is fresh and unique in its own way (reflecting the new JoJo family protagonist) with a several nostalgic threads of continuity. I’m on Josuke’s season now just having finished Jotaro’s. Jotaro’s season might be one of my favorite in all of anime. It’s a globetrotting broventure and Jotaro’s one of the coolest characters ever. Definitely give it a watch.

Jotaro's theme is so great that the protagonists main themes from there on all carried a bit of the same themes. Such an important song for Jojo music

I really love how diverse this show's music is. Even villain themes are extremely different. For example, you can listen to "The pillar men" and "Dio's theme" back to back - completely different experience.

You should analyse all the Jobro's(Jojo's friends and partners) themes. There's a video by Sticky Crimson that collected them all. They are all insanely different from each other, and I think you would have a blast analysing each one.

The amount of variety in this song also matches the variety in Jojo in general, the show is called Jojo Bizarre Adventure and the music is truly bizarre aswell, the music truly fits the show in all ways possible.

Some of the decisions you can know by context, the dubstep is there because at the time dubstep was the thing a lot of anime were doing, it was the trend of the industry, the jazz is there because jotaro's father (a character that is only mentioned exactly once and has literally 0 relevance) is said to be a famous jazz musician, the agresive guitar riffs and shredding are something that jotaro would probably like being a rebel 17 y/o from the 80s and I imagine the rest of diversity is derived from the fact that that season is inspired by around the world in 80 days so they wanted to do something similar in the musical aspect One that would be interesting to see your reaction to is "awken" or "the pillarmen theme"

If it helps conceptualize why the themes are composed the way they are then remember they are character themes so they have been designed so that the sound team can cut clips of this song and insert it into the show so it needs to fit properly with the tone of several different fights and character moments.

(As always) Personal recommendations would be "Pillar Men Theme" and "Avalon" for dubsteb, "Decisive Battle Overslapping Destinies" for orchestra, "Overdrive" for rap, and I'm sure a lot of people are recommending many others so that's it for me. By the way those songs I recommended were composed by a different person so they might have a different feeling, but they're still amazing!

If you look up the stand names. Literally almost all of them are named by Bands, Song and different Artists that inspired Araki when making Jojos characters. Im pretty sure youve been told 1million times lol. But the fact that Araki takes American music history into his creation and makes it his own is so beautiful

I definitely recommend Speedwagon's theme, it's so underated for how good it is, it's a little short but really cool. Can't wait to see you react to more Jojo music!

I guess while we're on Part 3, you should check "Noble Hierophant" ("Kouketsunaru Kyoukou" in Japanese). It's the theme for the JoBro, Noriaki Kakyoin, in Part 3, and I think it's one of the best character themes in the entire series.

I'm loving your reactions! An all time favorite (and I'm sure everybody agrees) is Gut's Theme from Berserk. It just hits different. Unravel from Tokyo Ghoul as well. It got memed to death but it really is a fine piece of music.

Another important thing to note about the show and specifically its use of this music is that most of these themes are going to be playing during the most climactic moments of each episode. The show is set up as a heavily combat-focused show, with combat being based on weird, unpredictable, and highly specific powers. The characters are often playing strategic mind games as much as they are engaging in physical combat, with the protagonists generally disoriented and trying to figure out what exactly they’re fighting against and how to beat the antagonist of the week. When these character themes play, it’s almost always underscoring the climactic moment when the main protagonist figures out what’s going on or how to beat their opponent, normally in some backwards, odd, and… bizarre way. The complexity and chaotic nature of the themes are so good for conveying the utter mind-melting, jaw-dropping, edge-of-your-seat conclusions to different battles as the protagonist succeeds in their crazy plan and gets the chance to absolutely wreck the antagonist of the week, usually displaying their own creative use of their powers and turning them into a pulp. The themes are fantastic for pulling the audience into a crazy, complex, but compelling world and then hitting them with the most badass moments of catharsis imaginable

I love the build in this song, a lot like the character. Doesn't start out super complicated, but that main melody has so much power to it and while it's simple at first just the guitar, you really feel it by the time the band and the other strings come in to give it those layers.

I really like the "dubstep/drop" parts that really pull you out of the funk and groove, because the show actually uses base notes/dubstep wubs as a sound design cue for a power that Jotaro winds up using, and making the connection between that in the show and the character theme, as well as it musically kind of feeling like it's pulling you out of the music and putting the funk on pause, is really thematically appropriate and shows you just how much care they put into both the music and sound design of the anime.

I had my JoJo era in 2018-2020, I was absolutely obsessed with JoJo. Going to listen Jotaro's theme again after some years of going deeply into the world of music got me like: "This is the most beautiful mess I ever listened to." Like, bro there's a lot of instruments and different solos in just one theme.

As you kinda already noticed the Themes heavily represent the chars. For example you were waiting for the drop but Jotaro doesnt drop, he just takes a breath (short intercourse). And hes hard and badass on the outside, like the majority of the song but actually verry all over the place emotionally, hence all these genre mixes.

I know you've already listened to the Jojo intros, but if you're interested in something really cool, I'd suggest listening to the first intro's full version. So No Chi No Sadame has some jaw-dropping vocal work toward the end that isn't actually in the intro as it plays in the show. Highly recommended.

Do Kakyoin’s theme next. It has 2 titles. Virtuous Pope/Noble Pope. It’s one of my favorite themes in JoJo (partially because he’s my fav character but still).

for some context, that melody around 2:26 SLAPS and it gets progressively more intense and 11:40 usually kicks in whenever Jotaro reveals some major discovery or moment that makes him suddenly overcome whatever enemy he's fighting. You basically know whenever that comes on that the bad guy's really screwed now.

You need to listen to the Pillar Men theme (Awaken), I know everyone has there own opinions on JoJo music, but I think everyone can agree that Awaken is in the top 3.

I see that a lot of people recommended more Jojo's themes, so I'll recommend something different wich are two songs from the fighting game The King of Fighters '96: Arashi no Saxophone 2 and Fairy. Both in the arranged versions so you can hear those without the arcade limitations. Trust me I think that you will love it.
