X was really a versatile artist. this song "Save Me" makes me sad cause in that time he really needed to be saved and he managed to save him self and we fans also helped saving him and when he was "safe again" he got his like took away... it really sucks. im pretty sure i'll remember X and the impact he had on my life until the end of my days. so the reason X's songs were all so short was actually because he would only record until a thought was complete. So like you said, he really was pretty much holding a recorder and speaking his mind, and once that thought was done, the song was done. SO POETIC AND UNIQUE

I love watching people's first reactions to X's music because most of the time you can see that off guard kind of confusion written on their face, as they 'feel' every word of what he's saying... and it's bittersweet. My first listen to X was 'Look At Me' but didn't give his music a true listen till 17 came out, and from that moment I was hooked. When he passed, it was truly the 1st artist death that left a pit in my stomach, even though I had only become a fan a short time before, his music has and will continue to have a lasting impact on myself, as well as his fans. Please, continue on the journey through his catalog, because ya'll are right, he wasn't a rapper, he is an ARTIST.
