Surah Al-Mulk: This surah will intercede for you before Allah and save you from the punishment of the grave, Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "There is a soorah in the Qur'an, thirty verses, which will intercede for the one who recites it until he is forgiven: 'Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion... [al-Mulk]." Narrated by at- Tirmidhi (2891); Surah Al-Kafiroon: It protects you from shirk before death, Narrated from Nawfal (may Allah be pleased with him), according to which the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said of it: "it is a disavowal of shirk." Classed as saheeh by Ibn Hajar in Taghleeq at-Ta'leeq (4/408) and by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood. The Mi'wadhatayn [Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas:] They will protect you against the shaytaan, the evil eye, destructive envy (hasad) and all other evils. It was narrated from 'Uqbah ibn 'Aamir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "Seek refuge with them [the Mi'wadhatayn], for you will not seek refuge with anything else like them." Narrated by Abu Dawood (1563); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.

Alhasan Albasari said it refers to singing and playing musical instruments. The tafseer of Albaghawi also says the same. One reason mentioned for its revelation was because of a man who purchased a slave girl who was also a singer, and he would have her sing so that people would turn their attention to her voice instead of listening to the prophet of Allah (peace be upon him). The prophet (peace be upon him) said, "it is forbidden to sell or buy these singers, and eating from their profits is forbidden". The way of the prophet (peace be upon him), his sunnah which is chronicled in these ahadeeth, and the Qur'an go hand in hand. We need both to live the way Allah would be pleased with. @@OpressedStar there are multiple hadiths mentioning music as ok and multiple hadiths mentioning music as not ok but the answer is that we don’t know if it’s haram. Prophet Dawood played a musical instrument and how is it then haram? It’s so confusing that some hadiths make music ok and some not but the most important thing is music was never mentioned in Quran so it is definitely not haram. Hadith 4001: "The Prophet (ﷺ) came to me the night my marriage was consummated and sat down on my bed as you (the sub-narrator) are sitting now, and small girls were beating the tambourine and singing in lamentation of my father who had been killed on the day of the battle of Badr. Then one of the girls said, "There is a Prophet amongst us who knows what will happen tomorrow." The Prophet (ﷺ) said (to her)," Do not say this, but go on saying what you have spoken before." If the Prophet ﷺ didn't stop those two girls from playing the tambourine then why is it haram? Abu Huraira reported the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saying: “the bell is the musical instrument of the Satan.” and if Sahabi closed his ears when hearing the flute then only THE BELL AND THE FLUTE IS HARAM. This issue is very old and was resolved long time ago. Imam al-Ghazzali, one of the most famous Muslim scholars, writing almost a thousand years ago, reported several Ahadith and came to the following conclusion: “All these Ahadith are reported by al-Bukhari and singing and playing are not haram.” Al-Ghazzali also convincingly answered many critics who had raised such objections in his book, “Ihya Ulum al-Deen.” Those who are opposed to music, quote this Hadith: “Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 69, Number 494v: Narrated Abu ‘Amir or Abu Malik Al-Ash’ari: that he heard the Prophet saying, “From among my followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse, the wearing of silk, the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use of musical instruments, as lawful. And there will be some people who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the evening their shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask them for something, but they will say to him, ‘Return to us tomorrow.’ Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain fall on them, and He will transform the rest of them into monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the Day of Resurrection.” It is dangerous to form an opinion on the basis of one or two Hadiths, and Hadith literature should be considered as raw data. Each Hadith should be evaluated and compared with other Ahadith as well as with other historical sources. The problem is that we usually don’t know the context of each Hadith, and it is difficult to know under what circumstances the Prophet (s.a.w) made certain statements. The above Hadith most likely refers to musical instruments used in drinking parties during the period of “jahiliyaa” (pre-Islamic era) in which even men wore silk clothes and orgies included illegal sexual intercourse. Taken by itself, the Hadith should also ban silk, but that is not the case and silk is permitted for women. That is why it is important to look at all Ahadith and not come to a hasty conclusion. There are other Ahadiths which clearly show that musical instruments are permitted: For example this Hadith: “Volume 6, Book 61, Number 568: Narrated Abu Musa: That the Prophet said to him’ ‘O Abu Musa! You have been given one of the musical wind-instruments of the family of David .’” Critics also argue that music instruments are ONLY allowed during festivities. They quote this Hadith: Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 15, Number 72: Narrated Aisha: Abu Bakr came to my house while two small Ansari girls were singing beside me the stories of the Ansar concerning the Day of Buath. And they were not singers. Abu Bakr said protestingly, “Musical instruments of Satan in the house of Allah’s Apostle !” It happened on the ‘Id day and Allah’s Apostle said, “O Abu Bakr! There is an ‘Id for every nation and this is our ‘Id.” That Hadith again has to be studied in proper context because the Prophet (pbuh) not only permitted singing on other occasions, he recommended it. “Aishah narrated that when her relative was married to an Ansari man, the Prophet (s.a.w) said: ‘Aishah, did they have any entertainment? The Ansar are fond of Entertainment.” He didn’t say they were fond of entertainment only on festivities or that it was wrong but allowed on some occasions. In another Hadith, “Ibn Abbas said, ‘Aishah gave a girl relative of hers in marriage to a man of the Ansar. The Prophet (s.a.w) came and asked, ‘Did you send a singer along with her?’ ‘No,’ she said. The Messenger of Allah then said: ‘The Ansar are a people who love poetry. You should have sent along someone who would sing, ‘here we come, to you we come, greet us as we greet you.'” Music-haters also reference this Hadith: “Anas ibn Malik related from the Prophet (saws) that, “two cursed sounds are that of the musical instrument(mizmaar) played on the occasion of joy and grace, and the woeful wailing upon the occasion of adversity.” It is not difficult to find contradictory Ahadith. However, almost all scholars of Islam are of the view that singing is not only permitted, it is recommended on the occasions of Eid, weddings, births, aqiqahs, and on the return of a traveler. {See Yusuf al-Qardawi’s “The Lawful and the Prohibited in Islam.”] Qardawi in the same book also states the following: “It is reported that many Companions of the Prophet (may Allah be pleased with them) as well as second generation Muslim scholars used to listen to singing and did not see anything wrong with it. As for the Ahadith which have been reported against singing, they all are weak and have been shown by researchers to be unsound. The jurist Abu Bakr al-Arabi says, ‘No sound Hadith is available concerning the prohibition of singing,’ while Ibn Hazm says, ‘ All that is reported on this subject is false and fabricated…he who listens to singing intending neither obedience nor disobedience in doing something neutral and harmless, which is similar to going to the park and walking around, standing by a window and looking at the sky, wearing blue or green clothes, and so on.'” The best answer was given by Ibn Hazm who quoted another verse: “And what is beyond the truth except error?” (Quran 10:32). In other words, those who are prohibiting something which God has not forbidden, for no apparent reason, are simply falling into error. Then there are some Muslims who argue that only drums are allowed. That too is false. Note the Hadith that I have quoted above: “Narrated Abu Musa: “That the Prophet said to him ‘O Abu Musa! You have been given one of the musical wind-instruments of the family of David.'” That makes it obvious that Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) was not opposed to wind instruments. So there goes your “drums are OK” theory. Secondly, what is permitted on Eid day is also permitted on other days. There is not a single Hadith which says that what is permitted for Eid is not acceptable on other days. Muslims have been enjoying Music since the beginning of Islam with no guilt whatsoever. Without music people would be extremely depressed. After realizing that even christians know that they think Islam forbids music then i find this absolutely messed up.

After realizing that even christians know that they think Islam forbids music then i find this absolutely messed up.

there are multiple hadiths mentioning music as ok and multiple hadiths mentioning music as not ok but the answer is that we don’t know if it’s haram. After realizing that even christians know that they think Islam forbids music then i find this absolutely messed up.

there are multiple hadiths mentioning music as ok and multiple hadiths mentioning music as not ok but the answer is that we don’t know if it’s haram. @@bexta-fc2hq Music isn't Haram 5.87] O you who believe! do not forbid (yourselves) the good things which Allah has made lawful for you and do not exceed the limits; surely Allah does not love those who exceed the limits. Allah makes it clear that he does not love the ones who exceed his limits, forbidding music is exceeding limits. “Say, "Did you note how God sends down to you all kinds of provisions, then you render some of them unlawful, and some lawful?" Say, "Did God give you permission to do this? Or, do you fabricate lies and attribute them to God? “ (Al Quran # 10:59) Allah has made it permissible for mankind to listen to music. But people fabricated lies and attributed it to Allah. “Ibn Abbas said, ‘Aishah gave a girl relative of hers in marriage to a man of the Ansar. The Prophet (s.a.w) came and asked, ‘Did you send a singer along with her?’ ‘No,’ she said. The Messenger of Allah then said: ‘The Ansar are a people who love poetry. You should have sent along someone who would sing, ‘here we come, to you we come, greet us as we greet you.'” Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) encouraged music when he went to see the people of Ansar The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Deeds will be judged according to intentions, and everyone will get what he intended.' (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim.). Accordingly, the one who listens to singing with the intention of using it in support of a sin is a sinner, and this holds true of anything other than singing (as well), while one who listens to singing with the intention of refreshing his soul in order to gain strength to do his duty toward Allah Ta'ala and to do good deeds, is a good and obedient servant of Allah, and his action is of the truth. And he who listens to singing intending neither obedience nor disobedience is doing something neutral and harmless, which is similar to going to the park and walking around, standing by a window and looking at the sky, wearing blue or green cloths, and so on. “Volume 6, Book 61, Number 568: Narrated Abu Musa: That the Prophet said to him’ ‘O Abu Musa! You have been given one of the musical wind-instruments of the family of David .’” Abu Musa was given a wind instrument, if instruments are haram why has this happened? Psalms/Zabur, a holy book in Islam. Did you know that Psalms actually translates to "To play a stringed instrument"? If music is haram would it mean that I cannot read the Psalms? If a hadith has contradictory towards the Psalms, then it is not authentic. There is not one verse in the Quran that explicitly references music as prohibited, if there was music would have been haram. And no, Surah al Luqman 31:6 will not save you And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e. music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire). This verse states that people that purchase Idle talks (Singing or Music) without knowledge that misleads people from the Path of Allah, then they will be residents of Hellfire. Nowhere in this verse does it say that all music is haram Whoever says that all music is prohibited, let him also claim that the songs of birds are prohibited. - Imam Ghazali. Not all music is haram, only some aspects of music. Music that encourages Zina and intoxicants are haram, not music that encourages the deen and joy. Chart of Halal to Haram music I love Allah Subhana wa ta'ala and I always do my Salah Halal: Encourages the deen The war is long and my companions are gone Mubah: Does not affect the deen I got a gun, went to the church, shot up and had some fun Haram: Encourages Haram things

We should also be careful because that hadith is translated in another way where it says singing girls instead of music.

I say hemdoulileh for music hemdoulileh for being able to enjoy if hemdoulileh for families that are still close enough to celebrate weddings in such ways, everyone is different I personally grew up alone I am 33 and my only parent is so careless and selfish that they don’t know I don’t like sugar in my coffee, when I was a kid it was worst, music kept me home, music was my companion after my faith of course, it kept me from the streets, nobody knows what it is except I’d you lived it to be without caring aunts and cousins etc, it’s awful to see houses full of people and warmth while yours is either empty or full of problems, later in life music allowed me to lose weight, know that we’re all different and that before saying music this and that see in your family and friends, when you have many siblings there are cousins, friends, neighbours who are very alone and neglected, you don’t want them to listen to music? Check on them! Care for them! Be a good Muslim! Reality is we live now for a too long time in a world of selfishness and that a teen enjoying music is better than one doing evil things, El hemdoulileh anyways 😢 I will be soon married and I pray Allah to have many good healthy kids so that I can have what I was only seeing with my eyes without anyone thinking “ this is our cousin ain’t it enough that her parents are so problematic and careless why not invite her why not care for her” but no it’s too late and the fake silate erahem in this world only Allah sobhenou saved my soul from dying of sadness

There is a difference between art and the industry. His logic severely lacks complexity. Music in it’s purest form is the sound of a river. Music is modern day poetry. It depends how you utilise it - the industry is nasty, but the art doesn’t have to be.

Music in a way is a form of decadence....if I've gathered anything from things that are haram, it's that these things are often indulgent in a wasteful way and don't even amount to much benefit or ease. Each thing has its own effect on society at large as after all individuals operate in a society the people that indulge in haram inconveniences not only themselves but also the community at large. The arrangements for these would involve robbing from others' provision. On a side note, haram things are also unclean, cleanliness being a major pillar and part of Islam. Eg: wine was harvested in place of grains such as barley , wheat , etc which would've fed and provided many easily. Aspecially in those times of degeneracy , in the desert. It was a wastage of land and water. Roman legions would plant grapes in places where food crops was planted in the conquered regions inorder to make wine. Wine isn't cheap and it's made in place of bread to be consumed in leisure and stupour instead of filling the hungry belly. Pigs are a sign that people are unwilling and unkempt , ergo they are unwilling to stay hygienic cuz in those times aspecially in the desert, pigs were fed filth. Pigs are haram perhaps for the same reasons urinating the wrong manner(for men ) is a sin too. It's an indication. Music is leisure regardless of the genre or the era. To be able to indulge in music would mean spending lots of resources on it and making arrangements . Aspecially in those times of the prophet where survival mattered. It also cuts into one's devotion, especially when Islam was only gaining ground. The pursuit of leisure has led to the formation of the society today where the rich would utilize the poor and gain whatever they want. This tendency has found it's way even for vital resources like (say) oil. Music requires ab audience and the musician needs payment. Where do they gain from so ? And where would they spend it ? It's also the modern irony. People are willing to pay bucks to watch a concert. But they never do sth like that for good things such as helping out the needy.. No no, there are organizations for that sort of things after all. I could write a whole host of things and so much more such as any deeper implications etc but this comment is already long enough.

there are multiple hadiths mentioning music as ok and multiple hadiths mentioning music as not ok but the answer is that we don’t know if it’s haram. The problem is that we usually don’t know the context of each Hadith, and it is difficult to know under what circumstances the Prophet (s.a.w) made certain statements. The Ansar are fond of Entertainment.” He didn’t say they were fond of entertainment only on festivities or that it was wrong but allowed on some occasions. From a logical perspective, what does that prove? If the music industry today is dirty, does that mean all music is dirty? Is the film industry dirty today? Is the internet dirty today? The top-viewed websites on the internet today include dirty pages. But does that mean that Muslims are forbidden from making films and using the internet? Like everything else, music can be used for good or for evil.
