@monelleny 2 minutes ago (edited) Music Inn was originally opened and owned by Gerald Halpern and his wife, Janet. They operated the store along with Janet's brother, Jim Richmond. In the early 1960s, Jim met his future wife, who sang and played the guitar. He became interested in the instrument, and began taking her on shopping trips to local pawn shops and instrument stores, shopping for guitars. The Halperns and Jim operated the store for approximately 20 years. Current luminaries such as Bob Dylan and Felix Pappalardi would often stop by to chat with Jim. Jim then left, and Gerry and Janet continued to operate it for some time until around 1980.
I love this place and always bring tourist friends there when they visit NYC. Jeff (The Beard) is always nice to me and very smart. I love when he picks up an instrument because he is a player. He low key's his playing but you can hear right away that he is good. I have a lot of video and audio of the place over the years for a documentary as well. Thank YOU for your work making and preserving this special guy and his place.
A move about Jeff Slotnick's life would be FANTASTIC!: he's lived everywhere and met and had amazing experiences with the most famous people in Music and American Culture.
