No shooting flames, background explosions, cone-titted babes dancing in unison, no need for a "wardrobe failure" to get attention, just purely great songs and talented performers.
Yes. I am so sick of most of the singers taking off their clothes in videos and love concerts. Or arrive looking like they are in an sadomasochistic dungeon
The Hollies are one of the best groups that came out of the British Invasion; their songs are timeless💯% I love that the groups of that time wore suits and ties 👍
There’s something very special about the Hollies. At least 3 very good singers and a quintessential 60s sound. I love the 60s music, imo the best musical decade.
Ed...you are so correct...Allan is one of the few "real" singers of that era and Bobby was a great drummer. I met Allan and Tony Hicks in Melbourne several years ago.
Hollies and Pacemakers were much better than the Beatles and many other British Invasion Bands...I can listen to them all day long but Liked their 60's look Suits better than their 70's Trash look.... Tony Hicks is a Great all around Musician and Singer...!!!,
@@6828Lu 100% agree with you on both points - incredible players and I just marvel at watching them play live Especially Bobby Elliott and Tony Hicks 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@user-nw9xo2ih4e Original member Graham Nash stated that they admired the music of American Buddy Holly.. who then became an influence to them along with their love of Christmas Holly garland.. a decoration favorite in England .
Tony Hicks is a FINE guitarist. Very young to be playing that WELL...........He looks like Ronald Weasley from the Harry Potter movies. They are fine musicians & their music is timeless. maybe Tony Hicks had a magic wand in his pocket.
Of course the Hollies were part of my best years when being part of the Beat music starting at the age of 11 when my elder brother ( R.i.p.) and me saw the Stones in 1965 live in concert. It was a fierce competition between the Beatles and the Stones from approx 1964 to 1970, but we had so many other groups which also made good music like the Animals, Beach Boys, the Troggs, Keith West, the Tremeloes, Mamas and Papas, Jimi Hendrix Exoerience, Cream, Doors, Joe Cocker, Tina Turner, Sonny and Cher, the McCoys,Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky Mick and Tich, Moody Blues, Easybeats, Bee Gees and many more ….they all made my life so much better and easier compared to today. And the Hollies had top musicians who played their hits live exactly as they did on the record ! That‘s great, I love that ! I think most of us had there best time when growing up, say at the age of 12-20, right ?
The beauty of The Hollies. Perfect harmonies with masterful song writing and musicianship. Untouchable to this day! Another total British Invasion package. Thank you very much...
well you have to remember that unlike the Beatles, most of the Hollies songs were written for them by other musicians; but there's no doubt they were a great band.
An excellent example of quality LIVE music from the 1960s!! No Autotuning etc...and Groups in the 1960s had to graft to learn their "Trade"!!...so glad these performances have been preserved!!
and look how slim they were in the 60's!!!! There isn't an ounce of fat on them!!!!Lovely long legs and long shiny hair!!! They really looked very well groomed!!! Love them - saw them at Birmingham Thursday night 17 November 2016 and they were fab!!!!
The Hollies harmonies live are sublime - backed by an excellent , tidy and clever drums and bass. Love hearing them live, and getting Terry to replace Graham was a stroke of genius!
@60s Man 60s Guitars Well said. And I will second what you said about Eric, even with all the drooling over Bernie that is going on in these threads. When they lost Eric, they lost the hard-driving beat that made them so exciting.
Bernie Calvert is a great underrated bassist. Played in the background, didn't show off...but when it came time to accent a change/verse/chorus, he was right there to deliver. A bass player doesn't have to be Flea to be great...just keep a solid foundation and accent the upcoming changes. Simple but vital. From one bassist to another.
I quit bass partly because I got tired of people (usually mediocre guitarists) telling me how to play it. The 80's also closed up interesting bass lines, so I gravitated to R&B and jazz. Thanks to the dudes in Seattle, rock bass playing has come back...at least partly. I still hear a lot of boring bass lines.
Timeless quality. They entertained you which is what they aimed to do. No moaning, no politics, just sheer brilliant music. Vocals and harmonies second to none. ❤🪕🎵🎸🎶
Can we just take a minute and admire how well dressed, and behaved the audience is. The Hollies (❤️❤️) and the audience are from a much better era than today. Such a shame it is all gone.
The groups of the 60s especially the British groups look so well groomed. Lovely suits and lovely haircuts ( not meaning any disrespect to musicians with long hair and jeans.Nothing wrong with that. I just love the suits and tie look).
@ BenPotaka5893: Apparently, Ben, Bobby has been described as technically the best drummer in the world. No less a legend than Cozy Powell admitted that he was influenced in his own drumming by Bobby.
Great guys i met them all at the Spa Royal Hall in Bridlington in the 60s when i helped out as a roadie for a local beat group my late brother Keith was in,one of my favourites from the Hollies is King Midas in Reverse.
God I was so young then,I adored them so much!!! My aunt had this record of the hollies we use to listen to their reccords! That was before cassette and dis came out ! Lol that was so long ago . I am 67 now and listening to them brings back so many memories!!!!! To be that young again, all but the Vietnam war! That's one thing I don't want to remember!!!! So many young men going to fight some stupid war and all those young men!! Still breaks my heart !!!!! My best friend's brother had to go,I remember helping fix care packages to send him and his buddies! Thankfully he made it home, but he was never the happy go lucky man was. !! He didn't like talking about it much!! Such a nice good-looking young man. I was around 13 ,14. Years old. No family should have had to see their sons go off to war. I have one done and oñe daughter. My oldest daughter died of breast cancer in her early 30's I took her to Charleston S.C research center for a second option, still bad news. That's the hardest thing to loose a child. Her son's were so young. I really miss my daughter Tonya Hensley!!! One day I will see her again !!!! My son and other daughter get so upset when I talk about her. To me that's just keeping her memory alive!!! My mom is still living and will be 90 this December!!! Her mom lived to be 99 years old !! My grandma Susie!? The kindest woman ever! My mom is just like her !!!!!
One son and one daughter living. My son is in his late 30's . They miss their big sister !!!!! My three children,Tonya ,Amy and my son Lance !!!! Great kids !!!!
I saw the Hollies in 1983, It was in Virginia. Graham was along for the ride. They did a couple of Graham's CSN songs. It was great.. I am a Tony Hicks guy. I wish he had a few more opportunities to sing lead. Try "Too Young to be Married"!!! It is great! Look for live versions.
One of my absolute favorit band of the 60-th. We could here the lyrics they were singing so we learned to sing along. Greatings from Sweden a 70 year old fan.
Seen The Hollies in concert in Barrowlland,Glasgow Scotland, not a soul could dance, place was packed tight, my future husband was there, little did I know, met him a few weeks later at The Lindella in Glasgow. Also seen Marmalade there, fantastic.
Thoroughly enjoyed this Hollies concert especially Bustop and Stop, Stop, Stop with the brilliant use of the banjo playing. The back story of that song was sweet❣️👍
