It is infuriatingly tragic how the fanbase treated Dokuro. Dude is EXTREMELY talented and deserved nothing but love and support for the badass soundtrack he gave us.

Fun fact: Desert scourge and Aquatic scourge are related to each other that's why you heard Desert scourge motifs in Outcast of the Sulphurous sea

The songs "Servants of the Scourge," "Scourge of the Universe" and "Universal Collapse" are actually all parts of one massive SEVEN MOVEMENT SYMPHONY. Please listen to "The Devourer of Gods (Nonstop Mix)" instead of hearing those three separately. It just does not have the save effect otherwise, you gotta hear them together. Easily my favorite piece in the Terraria Calamity Soundtrack, maybe even of all time. It's absolutely incredible

Anyone else notice how the lightning in his room matches the track? Cryogen's theme is a blue lighting, brimstone has red, and aquatic scourge has a turqiouse/aqua green color?

"Antarctic Reinforcement" is a perfect musical portrayal of the boss it plays for. Not just in the ice theming, but how the boss acts as well - it's usually rather slow moving, shooting things at you from a distance, but at certain points it throws caution to the wind and charges straight for you with reckless abandon, which goes well with the drop. "Left Alone" (as well as basically the whole soundtrack, but it's particularly noticed here) was made back during the "Old Lore" of Calamity. It was meant to be sad because, in the old lore, the Brimstone Elemental was basically innocent. Just an elemental receiving worship from a dedicated group of followers, until one of the main antagonists came and razed their whole city to the ground. Naturally, this event was quite the mental scar on the Brimstone Elemental, and she attacks the player only because she now believes humans to be evil after that happened. The new lore portrays her as much less innocent in the events that destroyed her home, so it's no longer quite as fitting, but it's still quite a good song. "Outcast of the Sulphurous Seas" is a remix of the first boss theme for a reason. The first boss, Desert Scourge, and the boss this plays for, Aquatic Scourge, are both different members of the same species of large aquatic creature. They're filter feeders by nature, but they can and will go for something bigger if they feel it is needed. The Desert Scourge was forced to go for larger creatures because of what happened to Ilmeris, but was still starved and weakened from it's harsh environment to the point where it became defeatable as a first challenge. The Aquatic Scourge, however, has been doing just fine within the Sulphurous Sea's ecosystem, and only attacks you because you attacked it first, which is why it is a much harder challenge coming much later on in your journey.

Calamity uses so many motifs multiple times, it makes me happy to see others hear them as well!

Yes! The moment you recognized the motif from Guardian of the Former Seas, I knew you're the right man for the job! Absolutely love this series, already! One of the most wonderful parts of the Calamity OST is DMDokuro's extensive use of motifs throughout the OST. Please look out for them in the future!

The heart breaking part that you said about the Outcast of the Sulphurous Seas is because the boss doesn't want to fight you. In the whole mod, there are moments he spawns naturally, but unlike the others, he just swims around the place, minding his own business. We, the player, can choose if we want to attack him or not, but if we do attack him, then the whole boss fight is just the boss defending because we attacked so in this case: WE are the villains, not the boss

You are going to be absolutely blown away by some of the later tracks

What I love most about Outcast of the Sulphurous Seas is that its a remix of really intense song, yet is able to be calming AND fast paced at the same time. The feeling of loneliness is also expressed amazingly for a boss theme. One of my favorites songs.

To step away from the boss music a little bit, I think it would be great if you listened to “The Heaven-Sent Abomination” which is the theme of the Astral Infection biome in Calamity

Hearing you add the violin to the Brimstone Elemental’s theme made it sound SO much like Final Fantasy music, especially 13!

What's so cool about Guardian of the Former Seas and Outcast of the Former Seas is that both the Desert Scourge and Aquatic Scourge (the bosses, Desert Scourge is the Guardian and Aquatic Scourge is the Outcast) is that they are the same species, one just being more dried out than the other, which also explains their similarities in both music and appearance

The theme of the sunken sea has to be the most soothing soundtrack throughout this entire masterpeice of a mod, also your addition to the outcast of the sulphours sea song was amazing

If you continue to react to the Calamity OST, PLEASE listen to the Siren's Trilogy. It's 3 tracks from the game that are meant to blend together into one bossfight consisting of different stages.

I think you'll be hearing the most iconic part of Calamity's soundtrack very soon. It's a certain instrument that the community lovingly named "the Calamity Bell". At least, that's the name I've heard.

part of the ordered chaos you mentioned, specifically of the cryogen theme, is the wild time signature, 13/4 (which i feel as 8+5 or 4+4+4+1). it refuses to do a full 4 bars, and then for good measure it throws in that extra quarter note to disorient you without actually disrupting the pace like an odd /8 or /16 time would.

I am very glad that you liked outcast of the sulphur seas, it's one of my favourite tracks in the OST, next 3: raw, unfiltered calamity(it's a long song), leviathans trilogy (all 3 ig). Well the next episode will be Long!

one thing i find so praise worthy about the Calamity soundtrack is that even though the music carries motifs across each song, they all manage to be so different in their sound. a song can be calming, energetic, lonely and overwhelming at the same time and make it work beautifully. each track manages to be unique and stands out on their own in completely gorgeous ways. whether it's the frenetic symphonic nature of The Devourer of Gods, the Castlevania style gothic rock of Open Frenzy, or the orchestral power of Raw, Unfiltered Calamity and Unholy Insurgency. or perhaps even the chilling stillness of Sanctuary and the distant beauty of Blessing of The Moon. The music of Terraria Calamity never fails to impress.

I love how his analysis of Antarctic Reinforcement is basically just him talking about breakcore without realizing it. xD I do really like its unique take on an ice boss theme though! I really appreciate you pointing how sorrowful and, well, lonely, Left Alone is! Also pointing out the simplistic melodies and long tones used in Outcast of the Sulphurous Seas is an interesting point, it's like the melodies have to be light enough to float on top of his insane beats.

Have you heard the music of the Epic Battle Fantasy series? They were made by Phyrnna, and they are also really good! Specially the album of the 4th and 5th game (the latter contains remixes of older songs from the creator, which i find precious in some way since she remixes songs from like the 2nd game, which came out around 10 years ago, and it feels like the composer's journey has come full circle and shows just how much has she progressed). I really reccommend it overall, and I think many people from the Calamity Mod community also know this creator but overall she hasn't gotten the recognition she deserves, in my opinion.

I'm greatly enjoying your review of the Calamity OST, and I always look forward to the next part! Another soundtrack I'd highly recommend is the Deadbolt OST, by Chris Christodoulou. I think it gets overshadowed by his Risk of Rain fame, but it's a well worthy soundtrack in its own right.

I love the Calamity OST so much, I hope you continue listening! I'm especially a fan of some of the late game tracks.

Left alone is one of my favourite tracks in Calamity, such a beautiful song and becomes much sadder after knowing what happened to the brimstone elemental.

dokuro has made some crazy good songs and i wish he was treated better by the fandom, especially considering the effort he put in. on a brighter note, this video is phenomenal once again, as someone who wants to make music but has a lot of trouble coming up with melodies and ideas, you break stuff down so well, explaining some thoughts but also giving examples. thank you for making great content. if i can, id like to ask for you to review two other calamity themes, feral amalgamation (polterghast's theme) and sanctuary (the theme of the sunken sea), thanks.

There is a little monster hunter game called "Dauntless" which has some interesting tracks, but the Shavyt theme called "The living blade" is an absolute masterpiece and NO ONE reacted to it (it has like 4k listens) and cannot recommend it enough

Aquatic scourge still has one of my favorite themes for a boss in a video game. The steel pan is such a hype instrument and highly underused, and that twangy salty guitar just shreds. Such a good theme, and honestly just such a banger.

With the Calamity mod going for a three-fer now, I think it'd be neat if you went over some songs in the Terraria soundtrack! It's definitely more ambient a soundtrack, but it does have musicality worth harping on.

Just in case if you wanna dive into lore of this mod, cryogen is a boss, an ice cube that was made as prison for a very powerful mage permafrost. Brimstone elemental is one of 4 elemental (excluding anahita), and its boss as well, the point is that she was left in hell alone and playable character invades her home (correct me if im wrong, cuz i might be lol). Aquatic scourge is also a boss (all of dm dokuro's songs in soundtrack are boss osts EXCEPT osts for abyss biome and songs that arent in game (like catastrophes before calamity)) and this worm used to live inthe sea, but then yarim(or yharim, idk) throw thousands of dead bodies in this sea, so its now sulphur sea...

I'm sure someone already said, but the reason Left Alone sounds so emotional and lyrical is tied pretty heavily to the Brimstone Elemental's backstory. She was once the patron deity of a thriving city, literally created and elevated to godhood by their love and reverence for her. But calamity struck and she is now completely alone, reduced to a fraction of her former power and surrounded by the ruins of the city she couldn't protect, one she may have inadvertently played a role in destroying. Her theme never fails to tug at my heartstrings, and she's definitely one of those bosses that makes you wonder if you're really right in fighting her...

The Calamity soundtrack was one of my favorite soundtracks growing up. I'm very happy to see it get recognition and see why it's so good As for game music recommendations, I heavily recommend Ori and the Blind Forest / Ori and the Will of the Wisps OST if you haven't yet. That and the Rain World OST. They have wonderful soundtracks that are masterfully made in my opinion. Thank you and keep up the good work. I love to see it.

Some context for the similarities of Guardian of the Former Seas and Outcast of the Sulphurous Seas, both are tracks that belong to the same species of creatures, the main difference being that the Desert Scourge is a dried up, starving version of the species, meanwhile the Aquatic Scourge is close to the original species, with some mutations from all the toxic waste that pollutes its home. Hence, Guardian of the Former Seas has more energy and intensity to match the primal savagery of a starving creature, meanwhile Outcast of the Sulphurous Seas is more calm and melodic in comparison, since it only becomes directly hostile once you attack it once it spawns in
