It has recently been reported that IU ,Lee Ji-Eun, is arguably the highest paid SK actress

She was a GUCCI model/spokeswoman, until just after she Canne Film Festival debut in Feb of last year, where she was nominated for Best Actress, the she became a Global Ambassador for GUCCI. She Is also a model/spokeswoman for New Balance and Pepsi as well as several Korean brands which include Black Yak (a clothing line) a Bank, the most popular Soju brand and a Pizza company (which was one of the 1st if not the first model/spokeswoman jobs she got. Her 2017 MMA performance is considered to be one of the most icon performances of all time. See sang Through the Night and Dear Name. The Dear Name portion she incorporated the concept of people calling out their names and includes sign language as well as sharing the stage with 4 other much lesser known singers, one of whom is one of her backup singers. IU had a role in designing the stage for her performance. There is also a IU TV behind the scenes video of this performance. The Canne Film Festival movie was Broker, which was directed by a famous Japanese director that has won the top honor at Cannes. This was his 1st time directing a Korean cast. He decided on IU after watching her in My Mister and then like many of us, looked into her music. After hearing her sing and getting her signed to do the movie he wrote in a part for her to sing. I strongly recommend both Kdrama's both of which are available on Netflix.

Of course she is an excellent actress as well as an incredible ARTIST. specifically in this update she was dying of pain since she has a disease in her left ear. not her eardrum Close and singing and even hearing his own voice causes him very strong pain. But she took a break to give her two concerts, but even so, she was injured again and we still don't know the diagnosis about how his recovery is going but you can see his discomfort when singing.

thank you :) just a bit context, iu's success (in that Melon Music Awards she got Album of The Year and Artist of The Year award, 2 daesangs) FYI is very rare in S.Korea. (1) celebrity "heydays", especially singer is actually just for 5-8 years. Naturally people/ fans will change their favourite to other singer, when time comes. Meanwhile, IU first heydays was in 2010, and she is still one of the top artists right now (2021 - 2022). In S.Korea music industry this is almost unheard of. (2)she's female solo singer. Its so hard to reach the peak as female soloist. She almost has no comparison/ case study here, lol. Maybe BoA (but she's a kpop founder, in early 2000's - very different era) or Lee Hyori (but she's an ex-member of famous girl group). Also she's an unique case bcs she got a fandom, BUT also has the love of general people.

Been listening to kpop for a long time and IU for quite a while, too. And I agree with your statement, on how IU transends kpop. For me, too, I look at IU as an artist and not as a kpop act. Btw, I recommend checking out another one of IU's MMA performances. "Through The Night + Dear Name" from the 2017 MMA. During the performance of 'Dear Name', IU invited singers (street singers, trainees, back up singers, etc), who hadn't had the opportunity of having their names known in the industry, to perform on the stage with her. As they performed on the stage with IU, their names appeared on the big screens. The performance is very powerful and emotional and one of the most iconic stages of all time from a Korean music ceremony.
