I'm one of the few people I know that doesn't use streaming services. Though the algorithm is clutch, it also limits your musical diversity. If you listen to drill music a few times, all it will recommend is drill music. I still "sail the high seas" for music and actually end up having more of an appreciation because of how time consuming the task is.

The lack of artist development is the reason. Signing artists who do not care about music but only about the money is problematic. There are many talented underground artists who do not receive the promotion or attention they deserve from record labels. These trendy artists only last 1 to 2 years and then they fade away. The talented artists with loyal fanbases who attend all their shows deserve more support. Imagine how many more fans these talented artists could gain if the labels invested more money into them.

I always try to tune into the new releases or discover some artists putting out music that don’t get the recognition, but honestly the majority of my listening goes back to listening to older songs and albums It’s not to say every single artist or song is like this nowadays, but it definitely feels less authentic, original and/or edifying than stuff that came out 20-30+ years ago
