Hi man! Great reaction! Just a comment: when Coen played that progression, he did it on purpose. He played a small section of French national anthem (“La Marseillaise”) since they are playing in Paris ;)

OK, so, I have to pick you up on one thing and, sorry it’s you as it could have been any American, you just get the short straw! When you said “did he play a wrong note”, no, he didn’t, he played part of the French National Anthem in tribute to the fans in Paris. I have watched dozens of reactions of this song and the only ones who don’t pick up immediately that it is the French anthem are Americans. Otherwise, excellent reaction.

Simone is a goddess but this particular performance actually doesn't show that much. You really need to do much more Epica! For something that shows Simone's divine soprano much better, I suggest: EPICA - Unleashed (Live at the AFAS Live) and Apocalyptica & Epica - Rise Again (Official Video)

Hi, if you want to analyse an Epica song with probably the strongest vocal performance, may I suggest the ballad "Tides of time"? Either go for the album version -- which sadly doesn't have a video, but you'll find it uploaded to Epica's youtube account with a static image -- or one of the fan-filmed videos -- in which case I suggest the video "Epica - Tides Of Time (live @ De Schakel Reuver 16.10.2010) 5/9" by the account "RamonaNL Revisited" uploaded in 2015. Even better would be to include both the live and album version in the same analysis video. Just an idea.

the keyboard player is Coen Jansen and he is the funniest and most inventive dude in this team))) the spinning synthesizer is also on wheels, but he also has a mobile curved wireless keyboard with which he goes out into the crowd of spectators at concerts. All the guys are professional musicians and know how to put on a show. By the way, I recommend that you watch something from their anniversary concert, which was with a full orchestra and choir on stage, it was very cool and impressive. Good reaction. Epica is one of my favorite bands. I am from their country, the Netherlands, and only did see them for the first time during covid. Shame of me. Did see them live twice now. The keyboard player, Coen, is a funny guy. He played a small part of the French National Anthem. You probably have to be European to know that. He sometimes uses an curved portable keyboard. He did even some crowdsurfing with the keyboard on him at their 20th anniversary show. Was there. The second time i saw them live was in their collaboration concert with Apocalyptica from which you did the song “rivers”. Thanks for this reaction.

Title track from their 2nd album in 2005. One of their heavier songs, it is often used as the show closer, and is still played today. Arien van Weesenbeek is the drummer you are impressed by. He has a lot to do with the death metal influences of the band. This is the first reaction with Mark Jansen's harsh vocals, a lot of their songs have some of that. Coen Janssen spins the keyboard himself. What is he doing? LOL. The keyboard is mobile across the stage, on a track or on wheels. In other songs you will see him using a portable keyboard with harness. Who says a keyboardist has to stay in one place? 🤣😁 To see that portable keyboard , try Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 from the 2021 Omega Alive virtual show. 🤘🤘

We went on his boat through the southern part of The Netherlands which is full of beautiful canals and medieval towns.

I've only been able to see Epica live once so far, at a very small venue here in St. Louis. The keyboardist does like to have fun, wander around, and interact with the crowd. He occasionally pulls out a curved wireless keyboard that hooks onto his front side, that I've never seen anyone else use. It's like it was made for use in a marching band or something.

No, it wasn't a wrong note, nor was it an imperfection. Coen played the first few notes of the Marsaillaise (the French National anthem) since they were in Paris. Just a practical joke ;-).

Yamaha actually. Used to play a Bach 42BO. Probably my favorite horn but I don't do as much orchestral as I used to so I wanted something with a bit more brightness for jazz.

@@ShawkaReacts interesting! I haven't touched a bone in decades. I never really knew Yamaha had a Tenor with rotor. I played in a concert/marching band all through high school and I lucked out and purely by chance stumbled upon a Conn 88H with more copper in the alloy giving it a darker, warmer sound
