They went from two guitars down to one just before their album King of Everything which did change a lot. King of Everything has the original version of Pisces on it. Dmitry Kim who played drums on King of Everything left the band because he wasn't able to tour with them. That is when Vlad came on and they did the live session version. Vlad has done a lot of composing for them since so that also changed the sound. Tatiana's voice has also changed a lot over that time. She's said in multiple interviews that she would take a break and when she came back she had to re-learn her harsh vocals and they would always sound slightly different. For fans who have heard the entire discography it's like picking a fine wine. Do you like the 2009 vintage, 2012, 2015/16, 2018/19, 2021, or 2022 to present? The wild thing is that all of them are good and could have been her sound all along. It reminds me of a line in a Lethal Weapon movie. Tatiana has forgotten more about harsh vocals than most people ever learn. On top of that she used to sing cleans with more grit in the early vintages but started to clean it up once she got to King of Everything I guess just because she felt like it. Every once in a while she does the vocal grit/fry and you hear 2009 Tati peeking out to say "I'm still here". To hear the vocal coaches who have reacted to Jinjer tell it she uses false chord for the growls but mixes primary chords in here and there and then the screams are maybe mostly fry but the range is so wide who knows and she isn't the kind who thinks about it in a technical sense so she couldn't tell you either. Tatiana is one of those artists who doesn't listen/watch her own stuff. Just like actors who don't watch their own movies. She did a video for Revolver Magazine called "Man or Beast" where they tried to stump her on whether she could tell if a vocal in a metal song was human or an animal dubbed in. They played the band's song Vortex for her and at the point that she recognized it she said she recognized it because of the music not the vocal because she said the voice was "a little bit changed". I laughed when I saw that because it actually wasn't. that's how she does it live but even she didn't know her own recorded growl. Because of course when you sing/growl you hear it vibrate in your head and if she doesn't hear the recording she's going to think Max their engineer did something to it. He didn't. Another good watch is the Jinjer | Audiotree From Nothing video just recently posted. They talk about the bands history, songwriting and friendships and also play a live session of three songs.

That sounds like a really interesting video to watch! I remember seeing the man or beast trend when it was around and I never did watch them haha. Thanks for the history on the band! Really cool to learn all this stuff. Welcome to the channel and to our family

Their compositions from King of Everything back seem to me to be more guitar riff-oriented, whereas from Micro on, they seem to be more oriented toward rhythmic complexity with the guitars being more toward chugginess with noodly ornamentation. I wonder if the greater orientation toward guitar riffs was Dmitriy Oksen's influence. I'm sure that the increasing rhythmic complexity is Vlad's influence. I love all of Tatiana's singing from Cloud Factory on (as well as *most* of her pre-Cloud Factory singing), but I'd be very much in favour of hearing a little more of her "metal chick" distorted cleans as well as more of her velvety jazzy cleans.

I have heard Jinjer's music before Tatiana was their singer and it's not very different from their early stuff with her as the singer. Maybe a little more grindcore thrown in at times. Their merch girl Jane is actually married to their original singer and has been around since the beginning making her the currently only original member of Jinjer besides Max Morton their producer, though not as a musician.
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 29 дней назад
The guitar centric stuff started out being inspired by Dmitry Oksen but Roman technically became their lead guitarist and main songwriter after joining the band for a while and his songs were driven by guitar and drums. Now the songs are driven more by bass and drums where Roman does more things in a textural context now - the band has said that only having one guitarist is why they sound the way they do now because they're having to fill so much space that used to be filled with guitars and vocals with other sounds
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 29 дней назад
The rhythmic stuff and songwriting style now definitely is Vlad's influence but the band was heading in that direction anyway after a certain point. Their older stuff is good but is definitely indicative of music written by a much younger group. People complain about their sound now and say they need the second guitarist, but I think it would be cheesy in not a good way for a band of people nearing their 40's to be making music like they're still teenagers and young adults coming out of college

thanx for your complex reaction of this song! IMO Jinjer doing Jinjer things and that is the reason why there is a new musical genre for me as a musician > "Jinjer music genre". I have been a music lover for over 50 years and a musician for a long time, and this band is on a completely different musical level for me............ Maybe you can improve some of the music video sound, it's not the best, slightly distorted etc... your mic sound is good! warm greetings from germany

That drummer, Vlad, also composed the music. He is a conservatory classically trained pianist since he was a child. Now he moonlights as a drummer. Notice this is a "through" composition? 🤘🔥 💙💛

@@timgoertzen6701 They are prog in the sense that the songs incorporate a lot of changes but they are very different from, say, Led Zep or ELP or Yes, true prog (and only prog - well Zep had a lot of blues influence) bands - they are core metal, and that is not my designation but that of a lot of people

I have two headless basses, and I don't think it affects the tone much. What it does do is give you a more balanced instrument. Eugene here is playing 5 string, so he probably has a 35-37" scale on the lowest string. In a traditional design you would add a 6-7 inch headstock on. It causes neck dive and is unwieldy in the studio. A headless balances better, and the tuners are much more precise. So headless I feel is more for ergonomics. I don't think Eugene cares about looking cool.

I gathered that from watching him. His playing is fantastic for sure and the lines he comes up with are just tasty as all hell.

@@TempleMusicAcademy In Teacher Teacher he makes this really dissonant tone - he's crazy good. I think though all the oxygen gets used up by Tatiana and Vlad on drums, and rightfully so.

You can call them prog or djent. They aren't metalcore. They are Jinjer. Quick note, your bass is clipping on the playback. It's coming through flat and muddy. Awesome reaction though, and really appreciate your insight!
