"Chainsaws are for cutting trees and limbs", yes exactly. Like arms and legs. ☺️ I'd like to recommend IT is the End, Thank God It's Friday, or Stabbing In The Dark (Live)
I’d also suggest Nature of the Beast, Hell in the Hallways, Communion of the Damned, and Star Crossed Enemies from the Every Trick in the Book album and American Nightmare, Stabbing in the Dark, pretty much everything off of Silver Scream album now that I think about it lol.
I was actually in an Ice Nine Kills music video for their song called “The Fastest Way to a Girl’s Heart is through her Ribcage” several years ago! All the guys in the band are super down to earth but happen to be horror fanatics haha. Highly recommend “Stabbing in the Dark” and “This is the End” from their last full length!
That's the song that got me into the band. Biggest fan now. Did you get to meet the main star? The girl? Soooo fiiiinnneee. She's in a ton of their stuff
I met him when he was bartending in Buffalo! Super chill and talented dude. Parents were there and my mom called me "Joe! You need to come here, the drummer from Ice Nine Kills is our bartender!" Needless to say I didnt believe them til I walked in and my jaw dropped hahah
You hit the nail on the head at the start when saying that it was very theatrical. Spencer is a big believer in the art of the performance and really puts on a show, which is very evident when you see their live performances, dressing up for almost every song, acting out scenes on stage.. It's as close as you'll get to a metalcore stage play.. It's even led some to label their genre as Theatricore.
Ice Nine Kills is freaking fantastic. Their first couple albums and EP's range from Emo/Ska to Post Hardcore with traditional subject matter for the genres. They're good too but their last two albums are on a whole nother level. On "Every Trick In The Book" each song is based on a famous novel the band felt everyone should be exposed to like Jekyll & Hyde, Romeo & Juliet, Anne Frank's diary, Dracula, etc. And their follow up "The Silver Scream" is based around horror films the band loves such as Friday The 13th, Halloween, Scream, The Devil's Reject's, and more. This song is going to be on the sequel to that album called "The Silver Scream 2: Welcome To Horrorwood". So if that interests anyone here who hasn't heard them before, you should totally go listen to more of them.
Do you like Ice Nine Kills? Their early work was a little bit too scene for me. But when The Silver Scream came out I think they really came into their own. Commercially and artistically the whole album has a refined melodic sensibility that really makes it a cut above the rest!
Ice Nike Kills is INCREDIBLE live. I do recommend. Spencer has brought his passion for horror literature and film to life in his music SO DAMN CONCEPTUALLY WELL!
7:45 That "NO!" was priceless. I love this band. "The Silver Scream" was the album that got me into them, and I have to admit I wasn't a big fan of this song; but now I like it more.
INK is the best band I've seen live. Pretending to have a girl stabbed on stage during the "Scream" song and with all the masks and stuff, such a good thing to see (and hear)
Fantastic choice. Check out the previous album The Silver Scream as it’s all based on horror movies as well. They have fantastic album concepts with really good execution.
@@Brunners90 yeah he is. And yeah affiance is back together and making music again, they just won’t be touring anymore. I think they are making an album right now. I love that song too.
Fun trivia: Patrick is from Affiance. Ricky is from This Or The Apocalypse. Ricky was also featured in Affiance's song "Righteous Kill" from their 2nd album. Look how things come full circle. :)
Passed Spencer on the street years ago in Lancaster, PA before their show at Chameleon Club and he was the most chill guy ever. He stopped and talked to us for 5 minutes, signed our shirts and took pictures. Great band and I look forward to more of your reviews of them.
I'd definitely check out the Silver Scream if you enjoyed this. With a few of the songs from the album they did "extended" music videos that wove a story together.
2:06 Spencer Charnas (lead singer of INK) has stated that he takes great inspiration from theater as he was a fan of it growing up so I’m almost certain he was very much intentionally going for that vibe
I know others have mentioned it but you need to watch the mini series they have from the silver screen. All 5 extended music videos have a story behind them. The production level is GOD tier
One of my favorite bands! If you really want to see their theater side turned up check out Nature of the Beast. Based on Animal Farm and it’s so freakin good!
I love seeing you react to songs and artists I already know and love, but what I love even more is when I see you react to artists I've not heard of and end up falling in love with them. I found at least 5 new bands that I'm now obsessed with through this channel. I hadn't heard of Ice Nine Kills before this, but now I've gone down a wormhole of all of their video's of youtube and they're sooo good!
Bro, it's so refreshing when someone truly appreciates something to a similar extent as yourself. These guys are insanely talented and I will always highly recommend them. You got my sub from this
So glad you did this one. The name Ice Nine Kills is a reference to the deadly water stuff in the novel Cat's Cradle. If it makes contact with water, it solidify's the all the water it's touching. So it kills when it makes contact with people who happen to be made of quite a bit of water.
I can tell just by what you’re saying and the certain aspects of the song you’re mentioning (key, time signature, mix, treble, tempo, etc) that you’re an incredibly, INCREDIBLY talented musician. I love that you’re showing love and respect for such a heavy band and I wish more people as talented as yourself would show the same respect to this kind of music
I'm not the biggest horror fan but INK made more interested, just the way they they tell the stories is so nice, love their narrative. definitely check out "IT is the end" and "Stabbing in the Dark"
Great reaction David! Their whole album silver scream is pretty amazing. Since its shark week, id recommend "rocking the boat". One of my faves by them
Im 30 years old and I can tell you , honestly it feels like I'm getting out of school and watching Blue's clues everytime I watch one of your videos. I loved Blue's clues. Its becoming one of my daily rituals. Thanks for the great content man, wish my music teachers were as interesting as you.
The first time I saw INK, Patrick the drummer was sick with the flu but he still played live that night. I have the utmost respect for Patrick and he had actually liked one of my IG posts (that I did delete but I do have a ss of his like somewhere) and he has liked a couple of my comments from tiktok and I think even ig too. INK is one of my favorite bands and I adore them so much! They’ve brought a whole community together and it feels like a horror movie, metal loving family! I’m happy to be apart of it :) I love this song so much and I love musically, just as you did today, picking out the timing of things and understanding the song from a musical standpoint (using music theory analysis) I enjoyed this video and I enjoyed that you liked the song!
This is one of my favorite bands! Great video, silly name aside! The entire Silver Scream album is worth listening to and they have more than a couple music videos that you could react to. The American Nightmare would be a good place to start, if you like A Nightmare on Elm Street. Great work as usual Man!
So, the chainsaw thingie. Fun fact: Two doctors invented the chainsaw in 1780 to make the removal of pelvic bone easier and less time-consuming during childbirth. It was powered by a hand crank and looked like a modern-day kitchen knife with little teeth on a chain that wound in an oval.
I love this band!! The way the drummer is so into it in the video is my favorite thing. I also love the movie American Psycho. I cant wait to see them live.
you should check out We Butter the Bread with Butter's 20km/h - there are some good blast beats in the breakdown, and you say you like a sense of humor? oh man... you'd love these guys.
This reaction made me happy. I didn't need someone to tell me INK are great musicians. Though coming from someone with background in music only strengthens that idea.
If you think the foot work for "Hip to be Scared" was impressive in the song "Merry Axemas" when 2:42 hits that entire bit (except for cymbals) is done with the kick drum, Patrick is truly a great drummer.
Another thing about the bridge section of the song, Hip to Be Square was also the song the Patrick Bateman used as an example for the band he was talking about in the movie
As far as I can tell, the chorus is very orderly and somewhat calm, like the character thinks he's totally sane in his own head. the verses are more frantic much like he can't hold a thought for very long.
Exactly like David said, this is a masterpiece. Ice Nine Kills is easily one of the best bands in the world at the moment. You should react to some tracks from the last album, The Silver Scream.
My son and I watched them live. I'm telling you straight out, they are Awesome. Spencer's voice is Amazing. I really think they are so underrated. I think INK is genius. Who ever thought, a band would sing about horror movies and be so great. Unfortunatel, Metal and Rock. They are shunned upon. This band is Amazing, but it is so sad when people say it's the Devil's music. I'm Catholic and Love God, but this is just ENTERTAINMENT! Open your minds, and Enjoy the TALENT! Great reaction by the way. Have a great night.
Lol it cracks me up how many of us old heads Freudian slip Ice Nine Kills to Nine Inch Nails lol (also IX is insanely good live!!) Spencer is from the town over from me which might make some sense for the band. He’s from Swampscott, Ma, the town next to Salem where I’m from.
David, I love your videos. I too like theatrical rock/metal and I actually tried and am still trying to gather courage to turn my demos into real recording and release them, and your positive reactions give more courage every one I watch. Hopefully one day I can watch you react to one of my songs if I ever release one
I've loved your reactions to Ice Nine Kills and Dance Gavin Dance. I get bored with the "funny faces and random exclamation" reactions on some of the other reaction channels, but your insightful comments have me coming back for more. Remembering how you talked about the gaps in one of the DGD songs, I can't wish any more than for a reaction to A Rash Decision by INK. It has the most amazing uses of pauses I've heard. I honestly think you'll love it.
Just saying that you liking as many comments as you do (including mine on another song) made me subscribe with all notifications....me and my 18month old son really enjoy your videos love from the mitten (Michigan!!)
How have I never heard of this band? 🤨 I may have a new favorite. I don’t know any of their songs but I wouldn’t mind a 5 by if all their videos are this good.
Just got into this band this week. I’m hooked!!! Reminds me of when I discovered In this moment a few years back. Love bands that are more than just songs and really deliver
