Music is a way to express oneself without words. Music therapists at the Oregon State Hospital help patients access that expression every single day. When words fail, patients can turn to the power of music to convey their thoughts and feelings within comfortable classroom spaces, designed to facilitate expression. This creative medium helps patients in many ways including mental stabilization, emotional regulation, and stress management. The Music Therapist helps identify, along with the help of an interdisciplinary team, the skills in which a patient needs the most help, and they develop a plan to assist that patient take steps towards attaining those skills.
