Badd Medicine here and its Baby Driver reaction time
Baby, a music-loving orphan also happens to be the prodigiously talented go-to getaway driver for heist mastermind Doc. With the perfect soundtrack picked out for each and every job, Baby ensures Doc's violent, bank-robbing cronies, including Buddy, Bats and Darling, get in and out of Dodge before it's too late. He's not in it for the long haul though, hoping to nail one last job before riding off into the sunset with beautiful diner waitress Debora. Easier said than done. It stars Ansel Elgort as a getaway driver seeking freedom from a life of crime with his girlfriend Debora (Lily James). Eiza Gonzalez, Jon Hamm, Jamie Foxx, Jon Bernthal, and Kevin Spacey appear in supporting roles

I loved this movie! I was on the edge of my seat and I felt as if I was on a roller coaster. I wasn't expecting the deaths in this film but it was nice to see some faces I recognized such as Bernthal who played Shane on TWD and Elgort who was in The Fault In Our Stars. The sunglasses and earbuds are so iconic and the soundtrack couldn't have been more perfect. Also, they have really cool long shots such as all the chase scenes and references.

Edgar Wright had wanted to make this for about 20 year before he wound up making he came up with the ide for it before directing the music video for Mint Royal - Blue Song where he came up with the first iteration of the opening sequence as well as using songs to time the heists. also the music video is briefly featured in the movie while baby is flicking through channel's on the TV

His stuff has a very music video quality which is cool and it can have very artistic results but I wonder how limiting that would be because I think Michael Bay had a history with music videos and you see how his movies are all just soulless explosion pieces so does that mean Edgar Wright's cinematography might be overwhelming with the Beautiful music montages and confuse the audience

@@PACKERMAN2077 You are baselessly ascribing Michael Bay's failures as a storyteller to his background in music videos. Try some basic logic instead. Edgar Wright and Michael Bay have little in common, stylistically or biographically, outside of that. Additionally, many other highly acclaimed film directors like Spike Jonze and David Fincher have a background in music videos. But in the end, Edgar Wright has made many other movies with great success so there's no need to speculate on inane hypotheticals.

I never realized this, but when Baby is flipping the channels at 7:06 the line "and still the bull stands. Now, he must try to end this on foot" foreshadows the ending when Baby is facing Buddy, Jon Hamm's character, on foot in the parking garage!
@stonecoldku4161

Not only that but all the dialog on the TV before he gets to the bull Baby uses at different times in the movie. The child singing "You are so beautiful" and then Baby says it to Deb. He feeds the Monster's Inc line to Kevin Spacey's character. Brad Pitt asks "How's that working out for you," and Baby asks "How's that working out for you" about the HATE to HAT tattoo.

I like when in the opening scene after the title card, the lyrics of the song pop up randomly around the city. :) and everytime baby took out his ear buds we could also hear the high pitch sounds. Something I love about this movie is how the music is as much a part of the movie as the characters. For instance, in the scene where Baby is getting coffee, almost all the lyrics of the song either appear on screen, are acted out, or are said by someone on screen. Example, when Baby is in the store and the guy at the register is asking him for his order, Baby intentionally stalls so he can say “yeah, yeah, yeah” in time with the song playing in his earphones.

I love the scene right after the first car chase, just about everything in that long shot is in cue with the song Baby’s listening to. Even when the song goes “yeah yeah yeah” He says it in sync to the barista at the coffee place 😂 Oh yeah! AND when Baby is flipping through the channels towards the beginning and you see the Little Rascals and a few other short little snippets of dialogue from other places. Baby ends up repeating all those phrases at different points throughout the movie in major conversations. It’s an awesome little detail.

I think the genius of this film is Edgar Wright took everything he learned from Hot Fuzz (how to do action, gore, suspense, ect.) and just pivoted the comedy to tension. Hot Fuzz simmers, then rapidly comes to a boil with its comedy, meaning it is slow in the beginning, but near constant by the end. Baby Driver does that with tension and it's just masterful.

Man this movie is so good I could go on for hours about all the details that make it. The fact that the soundtrack isn't _just_ a killer one, it is a part of the action including every last beat of the driving or shooting or parkour scenes being done to the song, it shapes the environment literally, it foreshadows the plot (can't have a rainbow without a little rain) or explicitly says what the characters are feeling in that moment (nowhere to run to, Baby). Because of how intrinsic music is on even the tiniest beat, like the not-quite-dead cop's fingers matching the rewind sound effect at the end of the Tequila shootout, this movie is technically a musical. Even at the beginning, the words from the song are grafitti'd on the walls, he slides when it tells him to slide, he has to say "yeah" three times on beat before ordering a coffee. Then when Debora walks by, a black graffitti heart in the background turns red, and more grafitti is added to the same walls as before to match the next lyrics of the song. Baby remixes essentially everything, a significant portion of his lines are either from the TV or directly quoted from the other heist members or from songs. Many of the songs here are also heavily sampled in music (everybody expected House of Pain "Jump Around" there), and we hear a lot of the remixed versions of those songs in the latter half of the movie. We hear Baby's tinnitus all throughout, even during the opening logos before we smash cut to the car. We see how it comes back whenever his music is off or when he's feeling down. His foster dad having gone deaf listens to music through feeling speakers with his fingers. We see when Baby and Debora are escaping after Buddy significantly damaged his hearing, he does the same and his mom's song goes from muffled to clear, the first time it actually wasn't distorted. All of the stunts were real, Edgar Wright was strapped outside a car behind the cars performing the stunts with a camera for better coordination. Most of the stunts were done by the actors, when Baby does parkour or when Baby drifts right into camera shot with Debora, that was all him. The few that weren't, like the wall drive stunt when escaping from the marine, Edgar Wright had a stunt car rig with all the actors inside of it drive along the wall again in order to get a realistic interior shot of the actors moving with the car's momentum and bounce. Almost every car used in this movie is a model of the top most stolen cars in the US, chosen because of how common and inconspicuous they are, with the exception of the Baby vs Buddy driving scene. That chase was modeled after a shark circling its prey with Baby circling laps around Buddy even going backwards, and they actually needed to reprogram the cars computer to allow it to drift. The Michael Meyers/Mike Meyers joke was there because they couldn't get the rights to use the actual Halloween masks, so Edgar called up Mike about using him as Austin Powers for the joke and he said yes.

So if he took out an ear bud, the sound on that side of the theater would drop out and you would only hear it on the side that baby was hearing. I saw this film not long after it came out and it really is a great film. In fact I've seen it a few times since and I don't really watch films more than once, I just don't find a lot of shows and films have that re-watchability for me, the amount of content to watch on RU-vid is just so much I don't really watch TV or films in the first place. I don't know if RU-vid viewers can make suggestions or if you actually take them on board but unfortunately I cannot afford Patreon when myself and the country I live in have a cost of living problem, who doesn't. Anyway, I'll say them and if you do or don't is up to you. If you like Edgar Wright you've probably already seen it. I couldn't see on the channel if you've seen these but Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are both made by him and they're cult classics, they truly fantastic films and I genuinely think you'd love them if you've not seen them already. Also Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a fantastic film but isn't made by Edgar. Two other really good films are Fantastic Mr. Fox, I saw this when it came out and I've seen it many times since. Genuinely the film is so good in my opinion. Also Isle of Dogs, it's made by the same guy who did Mr. Fox and truth be told the beginning is in my opinion a bit odd, when I first saw it I wasn't really into it but as I watched the film really grew on me. Anyway, I really appreciate the content you guys put out, these film watch along have really given me plenty of hours of enjoyment, I've watched films I've not watched in such a long time, like the Sherk films, it was a real pleasure watching these series along side you. Hope you and your families are well and wishing you guys all the best. Cheers.

Every ture screech, door slam, gunshot, line delivery. ALL set to the banging soundtrack. ESPECIALLY that Opener, Cop Bust, and Parkour run near the end. Not only immaculate, but METICULOUS to the letter. I LOVE Edgar Wright

This movie started life as a music video directed by Edgar Wright for the Mint Royale song called "Blue Song" in the early 2000's. It has some pretty well known British comedians in the video, Noel Fielding and Julian Barrat who are known as The Mighty Boosh and Nick Frost from Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and Paul. I highly recommend giving the video a watch to see all the similarities to the beginning of the movie.

don't quote me on this, but I vaguely recall watching a film podcast back in 2017 where they talked about this one. and as far as I remember, this movie was a passion project of Edgar Wrights, some ten plus years or sth in the making, calling in past favors with actors and studios and the whole ordeal to keep the budget down among other things.

You can immediately recognize it is Edgar Wright if you don't pay attention to the comedy but do pay attention to the insanely choregraphed shots and edits done to a rhythm. They level of planning and detail in the shots to the music is very Edgar.

Mason Quinn was correct when he mentioned Jayne Mansfield. She was a famous Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe sex-kitten rival back in the day, and that's how she died...rear-ending a truck. Her daughter, actress Mariska Hargitay, was a small child at the time, and in the car with her. The bars that most trucks have behind them now to prevent cars from sliding under it if they get rear-ended are called Mansfield Bars in recognition of her death that inspired them.
