On a strat! Remember when Pete Anderson played a strat after Eddy toured for Dwight. They say Eddy and Pete never met, but I have this theory Pete heard him and worked Eddy's kicks into Dwight stuff!
I saw Shaver in 1998 open for Junior Brown in NYC at a music venue called "Tramps". I was pissed because having an opening band meant that Junior wouldn't go on until later and I had no idea who 'Shaver' was. They blew me away. Eddy's tone was full throttle. His hair was in his face with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth the entire show. Afterwards, I went to the side of the stage (that was gated off) and shook Eddy's hand. I have no idea how he could move his fingers so fluidly because he had hard, strong hands. I told him it was an amazing set and he said something like "Thanks, man, glad you liked it." Eddy's Strat was given to him by Dickey Betts...
I saw Junior Brown open for Jimmie Vaughan at the Peace Center in Greenville, SC. Half the audience left after Brown's set, and Vaughan commented on that during his set. I felt bad for the guy.
Totally loved this clip. reat story!!..... Not enough on youtube about the great Eddy Shaver. Damon is great player I know from the Black Star Riders. I first became aware of Eddy around 1998, when i found a used copy of LIVE AT SMITHS OLDE BAR in Atlanta. That cd blew me away! Great rocking Strat tones in a country rock setting. Highly recommended! RIP EDDY
I´am from Germany and i saw the Band Shaver live at the Saxon Pub in Austin/Texas in October/September 2000. I was there with some Friends to drink a few Beers, never heard Shaver before. But they blew me away. Eddy was one of the Best Guitar Players i have seen in my live and i have seen a lot of Guitar Players live on Stage. This Guy have a fat piercing Tone. I think that Night he played a 57 Stratocaster. For me Eddy was a mixture between Stevie Ray Vaughan, David Gilmour and Brad Paisley but in his own Way. He was an original wis his own Tone, Soul.Touch and Passion. He was very unique. Billy Joe Shaver was great to. A living Legend. After the Show i go the Eddy and his Father and shake their Hands and we talk a little bit. Five Month later i read in a German Music Magazine that Eddy Shaver has died. I was really shocked but at the same Time i was happy to see this inredible Band live.
Hey!! I was at the same show. I remember meeting some people from Germany. I was the really drunk guy sitting up front. Billy Joe actually kicked me off the stage that night. Thankfully I saw him a couple weeks before Eddie died and apologized. But I remember people from Germany sitting at my table. Eddie's guitar playing was amazing, including that night... But something was going on. Billy Joe was angry that night.. The band was fighting or something. Eddie was high or withdrawing. It was sad. You should have heard them when they weren't having those problems. But I'm so glad you were there. Thanks for your comment
Hey Myles, I remember a very drunken Guy sitting at our Table...we have a few Beer and talk about the Band and Guitar Players. Long Time ago. I can´t remember the Band have Problems. I saw Shaver for the first and last Time. In my Opinion ...there were great. But i have no comparison. That Night i was there with my Buddy Holger from Germany and my Buddy Van Wilks from Austin. Best wishes from Germany
Hey Texas Flood!! That's too cool. I remember all of you! I'm glad you liked the show! Thats real kind of you to reply and remember. Best wishes in Germany!!
He played for dwight yoakam for a short time. And dwight wanted Eddie to play through fender only. The story is all the tour he had a Marshall hidden. And that's what he used lol
Yep. Dwight wanted Eddy to play a tele through a Fender blackface twin. He set that Mesa Boogie up off stage and ran a mic to it. People supposedly would walk past it back stage and ask what is that?..And the roadies would tell them “that is Eddy”. RIP man what a guitar player.
Man I wouldn't bet on it, but Pete stole those licks from Eddy. Eddy played those licks a while. Pete player a strat for Dwight! I seen it! Then he says he used PODS through a Princeton, but I cannot find that interview. I think Pete was real, but Eddy styles were taken
I NEVER tire from this. Coma bit is killer. Damon, Brother Cain "Got No Shame". Loved this. I have the first BSR release, too. Shaver "Tramp On Your Street" was a Guitar Player mag New Releases rec. KFJC was playing it already. man,,,the first truly sober NYE since I was like 8 was '00. GP shows up and an In Memory column states Eddy had died. Family "What's Wrong ???" I gotta hop in my car and drive to the library to check out "Tramp...'. Got that now plus Electric Shaver and The GREAT Unshaven, Live At Smith's Olde Bar. Bender,,,,'Honkey Tonk Heroe's Like Me' I could listen to it 10 Times and plug in....get lost for a bit (my own s) then remember bits that slayed me. Great player.
At last, an honest account of how great Eddy was. When Eddie van Halen passed away, I had a tough time explaining to his mourners sure they'd just lost the GOAT, that evh wasn't even the best dead fender shredding eddy on my list. Thanks for posting this story.
I went to see Eddy and Billy Joe in Mesa,Arizona. Jesse Taylor was playing. (?) On break I went to buy a CD . Billy Joe wouldn't let me leave talking about losing Eddy,Wife and Mother in last 12 months. Holes in his Soul.
I was friends with Eddy shaver in Waco Texas and he was no doudt a phenomenal guitarist I miss him each and every day 💗 we grew up playing guitar together and my style is very similar to his check out my band Griffith switch
What a great story. I loved Brother Cain's "No Shame" a year or three before i heard "Tramp On Your Street". Both changed me as well. BTW, also loved BSR,,,on needs a balanced diet of SC's and 'buckers :)
So can I ask this? Is it possible Eddy influenced Pete Anderson? Did Eddy record those tracks and Pete kinda fell in? Pete gets all this lick credit, but Eddy did it way before
