Nice! Fun story: I tried electrocuting a protein bar with my SSTC, and the ozone/nitrogen oxide smell and taste was so intense, it bordered on disgusting. Still felt cool eating food zapped by miniature bolts of lightning though! Points for letting it zap your tongue directly!

Yeah I feel you man, square wave tunes are not common. A lot of the stuff that 8-Bit Universe makes sounds pretty good on this Tesla Coil though. Look his channel up, he has so many 8 bit covers its brain rattling. His cover of The Duck Song and Michael Jackson´s BAD work really well and I've downloaded them onto my phone to play on this sstc. You neeed to try this so what i did i made your slayer exciter and i measured the frequency it was running on and i fed the same frequentie at 400volt (pulsed ofc)trough a mosfet and i got huge sparks

Interesting... I should have tried feeding a higher voltage through it rather than a higher current (up to the point where it blew up).

@@theplasmaprince8651 no becouse it is a slayer exciter it blows up becouse they are not so efficient doing it my way aviods that becouse you can adjust the duty cycle(the duty cycle of the slayer exciter is 90%on the time it is on is wasted energy becouse you only get sparks when the voltage is changing)

The circuit I built with LabCoatz is actually a Driverless SSTC rather than a SEC, and interrupter to adjust the duty cycle and frequency would have been a good idea to add to minimize MOSFET failure and get larger sparks. I'll try your tips on my next SSTC project, thanks for the feedback!

I bought one, enjoyed it for awhile and kept coming up with new things to put it through. I eventually got bored and decided to hook it up to my big power supply and see how intense she could get. I slowly turned up the VARIAC, Well she got pretty damn intense! Until suddenly there's a sharp click sound and the coil goes dead. Not UNEXPECTED so I wasn't worried and have plans to fix it and maybe upgrade some components to higher power ratings.... but how do I find a schematic for this thing?!!

You should try holding something metal to the Tesla coil and see if that does anything different to see if it's safe or if you have any rings on your hand or any metal jewelry for example

Holding a metal rod with your bare hand and touching the arcs with it is totally safe and painless, and I would say that wearing jewelry is pretty safe too. However, you might want to remove any mobile devices from your person before experimenting with this Tesla Coil.

Help... I need one with a wired aux jack! I thought I saw it in the specs and now none of the ones for sale seem to have it....

I'm afraid this is only possible with very small coils that don't play square wave music like this one. I have a small class e sstc that plays music via aux cable, but the sound is not unique like my pancake coil because it perfectly imitates the frequency and plays it like a normal speaker would. Even though the coil on my class e sstc is no larger than my index finger, the touch screen on my phone stops working when the coil is in operation because the interference is partially absorbed by the aux cable and sent back into the phone. With a powerful coil like the one in this video, an aux cable connection would likely damage the device you are using to put the music into the tesla coil.

@@theplasmaprince8651 ya I just realized that it could mess up my synth rack something awful. still it would be so cool to play...I wonder how well a stand alone Bluetooth transceiver would pair up and maybe just isolate one synth? I did find the Bluetooth music Tesla coil unit with Aux in on Amazon, It has sense disappeared It had a pictagram in the circle. Thanks!

Hey man great video! Years back I put together a 200,000 volt van de graff generator. I stupidly ran it in a small room and it fried all of my electronics. I just ordered the exact model Tesla coil you have here. Will it also interfere with electronics? Not that I plan on using it close to anything but I'm in a small residence. Thanks.

Oh heck yes it will, any sort of Tesla Coil that you can think of will screw up your electronic devices real bad. So be sure to keep your electronic devices away from any sort of Tesla Coil, as it creates an Electromagnetic field strong enough to illuminate fluorescent lights and induce potentials of up to thousands of volts into nearby conductors.

How do you get yours to sound so great playing Jurassic Park? Mine sounds like crap no matter what I do. I've tried square wave files in all kinds of settings, messing with the frequency and power. I haven't been able to get anything to sound as good as yours in this video.

Hey. You're supposed to shove the earplugs into your ear canal. If you can't use the protective gear as it is meant to be worn as to protect you - purchase over the ear protective ear covers. You'll have those ears for the rest of your life btw.

On the input, it is 90W. On the output, I'm not entirely sure but it should also be close to 90W I figure.

What if you touch the terminal directly?

The closer your finger gets to the terminal during operation, the hotter and more intense the arcs feel. So if your nervous system even allowed your finger to go that far, man you'd be living in a world of hurt. It might be a different story if your finger was already on the terminal before you turned it on, in which case you would probably become the top load. I wouldn't recommend human top load experiments with this coil though, for it is too small for such an experiment.

Ok. It should be possible to briefly touch the terminal. Fast, so it does not have time to burn you. Good point about human topload. Touching the terminal might change the frequency quite a lot.

@@ponttokamera I touched the needle, directly, while it was turned on. It was only for a quick moment, but I did not feel anything. Still, if you touch it for too long, your SSTC is screwed haha.
