You hit the nail on the head with mature and empowering. They are also goof balls, which shows up in a lot of their dance practices. They don't go for the perfect synchronization that a lot of k-pop groups do in dance practices (they can do it but they are often fooling around too). You may want to watch a guide also. I like the Purple Hawk best but the Moo YT is the most up to date. Their ultimate vocal flex is the Immortal Songs medley, which is a concert clip from 2017. The full MV's of any of the songs that particularly spoke to you in this sampler would be a great place to go as well.

I am following mamamoo for about 4-5 years and nowadays they tend to do more solo / unit stuff. You can really see that all of them can be soloist but they are like a family. Also they finished their first world tour together after almost 10 years in the Business. They are selfmade and worked their butts of to make their dreams come true, what i really appreciate about them ❤

I love your reaction! So many of your observations, as someone who is encountering Mamamoo for the first time, ring very true from the perspective of having known them for a while. Female empowerment is a big part of who they are and what they’ve been doing all their lives. As an example, Hwasa (on the far right) was often getting in trouble as a trainee because she lets no one tell her what to do. One time she annoyed their CEO that she went home and had to write an apology. But when she tried to do it, what came out was not really an apology at all but a statement that she was always going to be herself. Luckily the CEO saw the strength in this, and the humour, and worked with Hwasa to turn her email into a song called “I Do Me” that was released on Mamamoo’s first mini-album. They have quite a few songs about accepting yourself and being who you are. Their love songs and break-up songs are also oriented towards self-respect. Acknowledge the pain, but love and trust yourself. A lot of this is just who they are, and some of it comes from their position in the industry. They were told before debut that they were not pretty enough to be idols (according to the industry’s toxic standards) so they worked like crazy to become amazing singers with huge stage presence. They have no investment in following the industry’s more toxic norms, and they have cultivated the strength to always stand up for themselves, and to encourage and inspire others to do the same. When you mentioned that you wanted to see their dance practices… I smiled, because Mamamoo dance practices are very Mamamoo!!! Wild, distracted, brilliant, hilarious, just Mamamoo things. I recommend looking up their dance relays, starting with HIP. I honestly believe that the dance relay format could have been invented for Mamamoo, it suits them so well. You’re really in for a treat.

They have the best vocal ability in kpop grup right now

FYI,killing voice used to be for rappers only but Solar pushed them to let singers do it as well. In short, Mamamoo were the first to do a 'kiling voice'. If you search youtube you can even find one with more raw audio (less compression, leveiing etc) and they still kill it. There's lots of good singers and groups in Kpop. There are lots of good songs (no matter what style you like) to be found in Kpop. Mamamoo are in a league of their own for me because of their vocals, their attitude, being way more able and willing to not always be 'on' as for instance letting themselves be filmed without make-up, they are LGTBQ empowering and not just female. E.G.: check out Wheein's 'Goodbye' MV and Moonbyul's 'Shutdown' (aka from head to toes) MV. Most of all they are women not girls, even way back when they started. Check out their solo's because they all have successful solo careers on the side. They truly are 4 solo artists that just happen to also be in a group. Do they have the best voices in the industry? No. But most of them are above average, even the rapper has a decent singing voice and would be the main vocalist in most other groups. Together, they are more then the sum of the parts. from left to right Moonbyul (aka Moonstar) = rapper, singer, dancer (female with the most lyric writing credits in Kpop ever, partially because she writes the vast majority of her own raps) Solar = power, goofball, leader, known to write songs and lyrics Wheein = voice like honey, cute and shy, dancer, also writes lyrics Hwasa = sultry, jazzy, intense, also contributes to writing lyrics. Viewed as the least accomplished dancer of the 4 which means that of course she won a Dance award for one of her solo songs. to sum up, they are all singers dancers rappers lyricists crackheads youtubers loveable and as close to being genuine people as you can get in Kpop Have fun going down the rabbit hole that is Mamamoo. They'll make you smile, laugh and cry. (If you ever watch the live performance of 'I love too' (tears edition) make sure to have tissues nearby.)

Despite not being able to show it much in this video, Moonbyul (the rapper) is just as skilled when it comes to singing, she was originally trained as a vocalist. I recommend her song trying to say goodbye, that song really let’s her show her ability and many of her solo songs are also amazing examples. I honestly consider her to be one of best vocalist among rappers.

I consider Mamamoo as the vocal queens of kpop, I don't listen to other kpop girl group but them because their vocals are insane. They CAN'T lipsync at all. You should hear the vocal kings of kpop as well, EXO also did killing voice. You won't regret it. 😁

Anther great example of their range in all aspects is Immortal Songs - Road to Sampo, the last minute you get basically every great aspect of each member's abilities. The longer example would be their Immortal Songs Melody performance, as recommended by others. With Mamamoo you can get a selection of their songs on repeat all day and not get bored.. their theme range is immense. Their live performances are just always on point and so much better than their album releases, which is not typical for most general pop artists.

You’ve opened a door into a new world. Mamamoo is the shit and all 4 of them are awesome performers in their own right. Strongly encourage diving into their whole catalogue and their solo songs. All very distinctive and awesome

OMG I just found your channel! If you haven't already pls watch the Big Mama killing voice. Their harmonies and technique are flawless. All of them are music teachers at acclaimed universities in SK, also known as professor-dols. They were huge in the early 2000s when they debuted and their RnB style is just amazing. MAMAMOO can be very theatrical in their live performances, and even in their daily interactions tbh. lol (Breaking into song regularly, role playing out of the blue, etc.) You would definitely enjoy your time looking into more of their content. 😁👍 I did a couple musical theatre classes and a handful of community theatre shows about a decade ago. I just saw that a director I worked with is doing one theatre’s Xanadu production - oh how I wish I was still living there! That is going to be a blast for everyone involved. :) Since I’ll be done with school by then, I’m considering a visit to see a performance.

Mamamoo is well known for their vocal and harmonize, they are the 4 vocal, 4 performer, 4 dancer, 4 rapper, 4 songwriter, 4 comedians. They debut since 2014. You will need to watch their immortal song medley where they perform the oldies show they participate in a variety show but they medley it and sing it in their 4 hrs concert. They will need to see their lyrics as they are meaningful. Dingga song is for Covid pandemic song, gogobebe was meaning for “it’s okay to be not okay”, hip mean you’re cool or hip as who you are. Their standing is standard, from left to right is byul (rapper), solar (leader), wheein (honey vocal) and hwasa (jazzy soultry voice)

The MAMAMOO members are among some of the most-credited idols in K-Pop as of 2023 - Moonbyul actually has the most songwriting credits of all 3rd generation female idols at 115(2nd most credited famale artist overall... Yoon Mirae at 139), since she writes her own raps(and more) in almost all of the group’s songs. As well as contributing to the songwriting in many of them as well. - Solar has 37 credits to her name. She wrote the lyrics and composition for her solo song, “Spit it Out”. Composer on "Honey". - Hwasa has 44 credits. The lyrics to her solo song, “María”, were praised for its inventive and meaningful wordplay. ("Somebody" w/Loco). - Wheein has 9 credits (that I can find, maybe more) AND COUNTING....

Since you’ve mentioned looking up their dance practice videos, there is a piece of advice I must give. Their dance practices are great and hilarious, but you won’t see as much of the dance as you will their crackhead energy 😂 (they’re crazy but we love them for it). For their dances, search for the “performance video” of the songs or for actual live performances. Mamamoo are the queens of live performance so that’s never a bad route to go. They do come from a small company and were the first group to make it big from said company, so they actually did all their own choreographing up until “Gogobebe.” Mamamoo debuted in 2014, so they have a lot of music with a lot of variety in genre. Their B-sides and pre-releases are usually iconic and sometimes more popular among fans than the title tracks. That being said, I’ll leave a few recommendations below for good places to start (with easy to find music videos and performances). For the most iconic song and dance: “HIP” - the music video is a must see and their performance of the remix at MAMA (an award show) is incredible and a great showcase of their dancing. For a ballad with power vocals and beautiful lyrics: “Paint Me” - it’s a pre-release from the same EP as “Starry Night” which you heard a bit of in their Killing Voice. There are 2 versions of this song, the MV is one and the 4 Seasons concert has another. A lot of fans (myself included) can’t pick a favorite between the 2 versions. For a great pop song: “Yes I Am” - this was a groundbreaking song where they completely own that they don’t fit the Korean beauty standards and that they’re good with that. For a jazzy song: either “Mr. Ambiguous,” their debut, or “Piano Man” For Latin vibes and their most recent full group release: “Illela” - has reggaeton vibes For maximum alto singing by Moonbyul (she’s the rapper): her solo song “Absence” For maximum honey vocals from Wheein (she’s the one with the gold belt): her solo song “Make Me Happy” And for one of their crack songs: “1cm Taller Than You” If you start getting into the group and want to learn more about them, I’d recommend the “Introducing Mamamoo” part 1 and 2 videos by Purple Hawk about the members and the part 2 of the 2022 introduction guide to Mamamoo for the history of the group. Mamamoo is well know for their live vocals and performances. And your right Mamamoo is know for their girl crush concepts. Sorry, but anytime someone slightly belts or sings high getting compared to Christina or Ariana is annoying. They aren't the 1st or best to do it. All over the Phillipines, everyone is being taughts these techniques to the point that is becoming boring unless they have something different in their singing to complement the belting.
