I think Kelly had just recently given birth to her son and had a really hard time getting through the song without breaking down, which was probably why she was closing her eyes a lot. Awesome reaction!!
Yup! Kelly said she was sent this song to record when pregnant with her son- can you imagine singing a song about losing your son when you've become a new mom to a son?
@@InvalidatedSyd yep, I agree. I heard that as well. I gave birth to a son about 9 months to the date she announced she was expecting at a L.A. concert. I can't even imagine having to sing these gut reaching songs, and trying to sing in the person's shoes it's unimaginable.
I know that Kelly has the star power, but consider watching/listening to this cover of Never Enough. For me, it's the BEST version of the song. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fjn7X6ywq90.html
I do hope you will also react to the actual performance of this in the show. The raw emotion is so incredible and I would truly like to see your thoughts. In terms of Kelly you should look at her live performance of "Piece By Piece," so good!
Also check out Kellys song " I dont think about you" I had no idea her range was that HUGE. Even live she nails basically whistle tone as a single held note twice. She also does something that as a singer I cant figure out. There is a run towards the end, she is in full chest and somehow flips a falsetto couple notes in it. Its beyond my talent, so is that range, I try to hit that note to silence. lol
I love Kelly's final choices in this song too -- where she chooses to belt, and where she chooses to go head voice (and also, that she chooses to sing those final high notes in this fragile, human, accessible way). She's a great example of pacing the song from beginning to end, telling the story, and knowing where to sing powerfully, and where it's more moving NOT to be perfect. She could have oversung this because her instrument is so incredible -- but she never loses the emotion. Kudos, a wonderful choice for your analyses!
Indeed. Just SING THE SONG. Whitney was the queen of that. She didn’t over riff. Not to mention her songs were all in her sweet spot. Kelly is the one artist who reminds me of Whitney. There is a time to riff and a time to SING THE NOTES!!! Good for her!
This is the earliest I've been for one of your videos and I'm so happy it's for a Kelly Clarkson react! I LOVE her version of It's Quiet Uptown! Her voice is incredible and I got emotional the first time I heard her sing this song.
It makes me so happy to hear such appreciation for Kelly Clarkson’s voice from someone who knows what they’re talking about. She is amazing and can sing absolutely anything. I don’t know anyone else that can do that at her level. Just found your channel and am loving it...thank you!
@@MarcDanielPatrick Somehow missed this reply until now....HAHA! Well, maybe that AND I am a fellow Texan and live about an hour from where she grew up. :)) But seriously, I have been a HUGE fan ever since her American Idol days. I mean, come on...the whistle note in "A Natural Woman"?!?!
I absolutely love the way we can see your emotional reaction to all these amazingly talented artists. You are adorable 😍 I love watching your vids and sharing in your joy for musical theater.
Thanks so much for your reaction to my favorite Kelly Clarkson. I personally think she is so underrated. Can you do a reaction please to Kelly and Josh Groban to " All I Ask of You". Thanks again.
This song hits different with everything that's going on rn. I love how she changed the tone and some of the lyrics to fit the context. Awesome reaction! Thank you!
I feel like this is how she's sung this in the shower or the car a million times. Absolutely brilliant and heartbreaking. You can absolutely see that she relates to this song in a very big way.
She is so damn amazing hands down. She is someone with natural raw talent. At this point shes had training but even when she didnt she was still this amazing

I think she has only performed the whole mix tape version a couple of times and the last time, was on like good morning amaerica or the today show (I forgot which one), and she choked up in the middle of song during the line “just let me stay here by your side”. She had recent just given birth to her son and that hits far too closely thinking about losing her son. She in order to get through this song she has had to omit some of the lyrics because Kelly connects with songs more than any other artist I’ve ever seen
Please react to “The skyler sisters Hamilton gets miscast “ the video has 10 mil views and showcases prominent child actors on broadway. Great example of comedy in song
I found out that as I get older and have experienced more things - and crap - I have a whole new repertoire of emotions I can bring to my performance, plus I can relate to many more lyrics these days... That is what I take away from her take on this song: she is a mom herself, can relate to this terrible thing that happend to the Hamilton family, hence you feel the raw pain, the loss & desperation in her performance! Thank you for your review of this video - you bring songs to my attention that crazily enough have slipped my attention.
Marc you should add Michael Arden performing Made of Stone from the Hunchback of Notre Dame musical that ran at the LA Jolla Playhouse to your list of reviews 😍 its one of my all time favorite numbers from a musical, he's so good 🙌
I believe you had mentioned that you were going to do some more reviews of Hamilton....Please please review Satisfied and Wait for it from Hamilton!! Those two songs are just incredible.
Shes closing her eyes not to cry. She is emotional as it is, but her had just had a baby (or was preggo) They said it took a lot of takes for her to get through it without bawling. Great reaction, she is undeniably one of the best singers of this generation. Her control in this song is beyond. And you are right she slides from chest to head or falsetto without noticing almost. Its just effortless. But boy is that chest voice something!
The Kelly Clarkson “ affect “ is so real, a talent that’s so rare, you feel it in your soul, not another artist that I’ve listened to moves me in this way, she’s incredible, and getting better and better, as she ages!! Sing 🎶 🎶🎶💘
She is my favorite vocalist ever. She can sing the phone book and knows how to sing the song!! I would love to watch a Broadway show of only Kelly!... She would win Tony's guaranteed cheers!
I would love to see RU-vids Colleen Ballinger in Waitress performance vs her own tour she’s created for Miranda Sings!! I can hear character she’s made for her career in Dawn - would love you intake in this. Great videos!!
now i don’t know much about M(r)s. Kelly, but she’s a REALLY REALLY amazing singer. like i’m talking REALLY amazing. however, the way she sang this song...even though her vocals are phenomenal, i don’t like it. i know it’s not broadway, so of course it’s not-y’know, that emotional or expressive in a theatrical way, but it doesn’t express hamilton’s emotions in the way that lin expressed them. as angelica narrating, Kelly was amazing. but as hamilton’s pov, i don’t favor it. i hope that made sense- now that being said, she’s amazing, her voice is beautiful and attractive, just like M(r)s. Kelly herself, and i wish the best for her.
Have you seen Laura Osnes and Steven Pasquale sing “If I Loved You”. I thought it was a masterful performance. We could really see their expressions since it was in a more intimate setting
This woman can sing every song as if she is singing about her own life. She is such an amazing singer and human being. I just love her. I'm one of those people who appreciate the impact Hamilton has had, but the show didn't resonate with me and a good friend played George Washington on the first National Tour. I even told him that the show and music didn't resonate with me, but I appreciate it. And I know that just because it didn't resonate with me doesn't mean it's not AMAZING! However, I love, love, love her rendition of this song. It brings me to tears. And seriously, no disrespect to Hamilton. I'm the odd man out. The show speaks to so many people!
2:58. Kelly is obviously one of the best, but I don't like how goes bigger here. Lin-Manuel can't come close to matching her vocals, but he sounds so defeated, which is very appropriate for this song
This song always reminds me of my parents. My mom died in a car crash 5 days before Christmas in 2016, shortly after my family had a bought an old farm, outside of town, at home, in Germany. There is a picture of my dad sitting on a tree stump in the garden she started planting before she passed away and these lyrics always come to mind when I look at that picture.
Thank you, again! I have to admit that this is probably the best I have heard Kelly sing. There have been times where I felt she was vocally tired and pushing to the point of her voice sounding strained and spread. Here she sounds fresh, rested.
It happens when she's tired plus the year she had her son it took a toll on her voice. But her vocals recently especially on her kellyoke have been amazing
I think in this video Kelly is closing her eyes (and parting her hair that way) to cover her bloodshot right eye. She has sung incredibly personal songs (e.g., "Piece by Piece") with her eyes open as usual while openly crying.
I NEED your reaction video for One More Time from Hamilton - seriously need especially the end where Cris Jackson looks like he's crying (though I see no tears)
Ok. So I watched the same video you are watching and the sound on your video is so so good I literally keep getting chills listening to kelly sing. Why is your sound so much better than the original? 🤔
If I even think about something happening to one of my kids, I get queasy. It's literally unimaginable to me to lose a child. I don't know how people who do go on. Great song and great performance.
Oh you know exactly what your talking about! You nailed her style exactly and I certainly agree! This is probably my favorite out of all the renditions of the mixed tape
can you listen to a British musical called Blood Brothers the songs in this musical are breathtaking especially "tell me its not true" and "easy terms" and "shoes upon the table" its a beautiful musical based in Liverpool and comments on social class and nature vs nurture I would also like ur opinion on the role the narrator is portraying some think he's the devil, some think he's portraying social conscience and some think he's death
Another good one would be reacting to Rebecca Ferguson in the greatest showman. A more “theater” production showcased in a movie inside these two worlds. Also a beautiful song and voice!
Her eyes might be just that she's not really singing to anyone, there's a camera but even that seems subtle, like she'd be looking at a room with maybe some crew members and creatives, but with her eyes shut there's no visual distraction.
For some reason I actually like it when Kelly closes her eyes. I feel like it helps her feel the song and express that emotion without losing it. She had just had her son a few months earlier and Kelly is an emotional powerhouse on a good day, so much more so now that she’s a mom. The vocal was phenomenal nonetheless.
I love it when she closes her eyes and sings! She said in her show that she was very pregnant when recording this song and trying not to lose her pregnancy.
I like her version, I do, but it's so much more poppy. Kelly drops consonants like crazy. I mean, runs are nice, but why is pop associated with not pronouncing your words correctly? Can we not not marry at least semi-decent technical choices with poppy sound and runs? "Enou...... and she doesn't pronounce the end of the word" at 4:39. Can we PLEASE pronounce our words (directed to all pop artists, but especially Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez). "Look aroun'(d?) look aroun'(?d). Where are the consonants, people? Like I said I actually do like this version. I just wish whoever's coaching today's pop artists would put a little more emphasis on diction. Props to her for great pitch, though, that's rare enough in today's pop scene.
I dont disagree. But I have to say diction in pop music does sound almost out of place these day. Maybe I've just been trained to accept the lack of T's and D's in pop music.
Marc, thanks for honoring the mixtape as part of the Hamilton Broadway gig. Even as a show that opened/amplified another stylistic avenue for musicals (and new audiences for Broadway and beyond-a bit like Spring Awakening) there are still doubters and haters. I can’t imagine what they think about the mixtape. Have you seen the ‘Immigrants’ video from the tape? Powerful stuff. Also, Kelly Clarkson-best thing to come out of American Idol. Period.
