Colm will always be my favourite Valjean. And this song was written for him, which is why it fits his dramatic tenor so well. Cool Wilkinson is one of my all time favorite male vocalists-he’s the reason my mom and I hold our breath before ‘Bring Him Home’ in any production of Lea Mis we see, because this man sets the bar so high. He has a fabulous version of Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Superstar that you should check out, if you haven’t seen it :)
Incredible voice, I had never heard of this singer until a few years ago, he has such a beautiful tone to his voice, I listen to this performance often. Pure magic, thanks for the commentary.
He has great breath support, he doesn't use his lungs, he breathes deep into his diaphragm, that's where the support comes from. The diaphragm is a strong muscle, if you want to sing well with a good support system or just want a healthier breathing technique period, use your diaphragm, you'll see the difference, when you breathe into your lungs your chest rises, using your diaphragm makes your tummy rise, just underneath your chest. It's not just great for singing but also everyday life, swimming etc, you should try it😊

Not to nitpick, but Hugh jackman played valjean in the film. Agreed that russell crowe wasnt a good choice for javert, but thats another story. And i would say he was 1000% brilliant as the bishop, and honestly was too old to realistically play valjean over the course of decades.
You should do the colm wilkinson four tenors version... the dischordant harmonies bring it so much emotion... and this coming from a combat medic who can't see this live without crushing someone's hand during the song
Wilkinson is an absolute treasure to musical theatre. Personally I think Alfie was the best overall for 'Bring Him Home', however Wilkinson's 'Who am I?' is undoubtedly unrivalled - he absolutely dominates it!
I have heard so many versions now of Bring him home and I still think Colm’s is the best. P.S. is was Hugh Jackman in the film version (not Russell Crow).
Russell Crowe played Javert and this is ValJean song, that was Hugh Jackman. I do agree that Russell Crowe shouldn't have played that role though. Javert is a passionate character, he has spent so so long hunting this man and Crowe played him with all the passion and intensity of a wet flannel. Very poorly cast indeed.
Or maybe he brought a different side to Javert rather than the classic “evil” character from the stage show. Maybe stop being so close minded and actually look into things you may learn something.

Boublil and Schonberg wrote Bring Him Home with Colm's voice in mind. I've seen a number of Valjeans both live on stage and on screen and while I've enjoyed all of the performances, nobody has ever topped Colm for me. Hang on, I take that back; as great a singer he is, I don't like Alfie Boe in the role.
He is great...the high delicate notes and the final... Grandiose. Anyway, in the movie isn't it Hugh Jackman who is singing it instead of Russell Crowe? He's almost without comparison in this role. I really do like John Owen-Jones too, but there is no one else who comes close to the original as excellent as other Valjeans are.
This is what a vocal masterclass is, what Colm did here. About Russell Crowe as Javert in the movie.....acting wise he was excellent. Vocally, wasn’t right at all for Javert. I am a Les Mis Lifer so I am picky
