What a voice....This was not only beautiful singing of a beautiful song; it was fabulous acting with completely untethered emotional power through fabulous singing....high notes, low notes, pauses, power, gentleness.......Jennifer Hudson is perfection.....
I must say Elaine Paige, Betty Buckley, Barbara Streisand, and now Jennifer Hudson each have made this song their own when they each sang it on stage or in recording.
Jennifer Hudson deserves more spotlight than what they give her. She is a wonderful black soprano, with an outstanding technique, a unique tone, power, control, she works so much to be so good. Always connecting emotions and voice. I mean she's a queen. Great job JHud, I wasn't expecting any less from you.
@@Vaderlover203 she doesn't have the precise control beyonce has ,beyonce is far more resonant with the belts too , her Headvoice is weak and under utilized for a singer of her calibre, beyonces Headvoice is far more superior to hers and Beyonce has more developed lower notes, it's definitely just your lack of musical knowledge because based on scientific facts!! She isnt a 100 times better .
Yeah perfect vocal she was controlled (usually she can be accused of over singing) but she delivered a beautiful and chilling rendition that was both emotive and strong.
Jennifer has really worked hard in improving her control - I'm a huge fan of hers and I there were times I thought she was a bit reckless in her runs but she has really improved. But, I love the times she just lets go too.
Improve what to water down her voice to suffice white people she was always great it’s just so many trying to sound like her Jennifer is a Grammy winner now people are trying to out sing her whatever😼
@@omegathornton1671 No singing isn't just about unlimited power on every single note. Sometimes you have to know how to reign back your voice and sing soft because the point of certain songs or certain moments in songs is to give off a more vulnerable restrained sound. Think of the beginning of this song it wouldn't have had much build up to the moment where she let go if she had just started the song out belting.
I thought that she would over sing the song as well. I am pleasantly surprised at how well she performed. Her rendition of this song is very unique and I enjoyed every moment of it.
As a classically trained pianist I re-listened to the two final piano notes over and over and over. I can tell this was an acoustic piano (probably Steinway or Bosendorfer) - and whoever tuned that thing HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD TOTALLY ON THAT LAST DOUBLE NOTE!!! Ah! Satisfying!
Jennifer Hudson is an incredible singer - able to sing anything and make it work. This is my second favorite version after Streisand's. JHud really makes you feel the song and really hear the lyrics. She really is an incredible actress too. Impressed.
What I love about it is the vulnerability - the acapella section at the beginning sets the emotional tone....it's a different version, of course, and I think Streisand and Page's versions will always be the most iconic versions, but I love this one....
There is video with Elaine, in an interview, passing the torch to Jennifer. Classy celebrities are not afraid of this - records are broken everyday. Another positive is Elaine and the song receiving a lot of press right now. I'm looking forward to seeing JHud sing this in the movie.
Stunning. I think she was pulling emotions from her personal life, the death of her mom and sister when she was younger, the nostalgia and the sadness there, I sort of recognized that immediately in her face and voice. Beautiful how she turned it into this amazing performance
Cats growl. A very dramatic and emotional reading by Jennifer. I'm happy she chose this way instead of a say, over the top, too many runs version. That would have totally distracted from the moment this occurs in the musical. I agree: hair raising, deeply emotional, and poignant. As a professional, I don't think she had or needed much coaching. Knowing the history of this song and the many, many versions of it, this was a conscious choice to reel it in. Bravo.
Lets just be honest, Jennifer need some great songwriter to put her on top charts again. She has a golden voice, she is an amazing person and she deserves better recognition for that voice.
Another great rendition of hers, I was scared to listen to “Golden Slumbers” for a few years there. Then loved it as soon as I heard the first line or so.
Agree 100%. I watched Sing not expecting anything in particular and then Golden Slumbers hit me like a freight train. Manly tears just shot out of my eyes haha
She knows how to Captivate an emotion and that’s what I love about Jennifer, emotion to a degree would beat someone who has none and would sing it better. It’s about feeling the music and my hairs are standing up🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for your review!! 👍🏻🙏 Jennifer hands down has done the most beautiful most breathtaking version of “Memory” that I have ever heard . I absolutely loved it . Truly perfection on every level... The emotion in her voice , her natural stage presence and that beautiful voice of hers touched me deeply. My goosebumps and tears proves it. Jennifer is one of the best singers out there - a master vocalist ... well done Jennifer !!! ❤️
JENNIFER HUDSON IS THE VOICE OF A GENERATION . EXCELLENT DELIEVERY , THE PAUSE AT DIFFERENT MOMENTS SHOWED HER ADDED BROKENESS ,CONTROL,VOICE AND THE EMOTION IN HER PERFROMANCE WAS DELIVERED WITH ABSOLUTE GRACE AND QUALITY. THE BEST SINGER OF THIS GENERATION HANDS DOWN . PS; THE GROWL SHE ADDED WAS ACTUALLY EMPHASIS OF THE MESSAGE IN THE SONG . LOVED IT !!!
I love everything about Jennifer’s voice she never over sings songs she has a gospel background but it’s okay if you get someone emulating or imitating soul singers/R&B like Jessie James with all of those runs no one ever complaints about them I enjoyed it it’s one of my favorite renditions of the song💗😼
I very much love her handling of this song! Jennifer gave it an interpretation that took the song to another place, and I LOVED GOING ON THE JOURNEY WITH HER IN IT. Every nuance, PERFECTION. WOW, it’s a space ride, all by itself! Great 👍🏽 Work Jennifer Hudson!
We are truly blessed to be in time when Jennifer Hudson perform she is such a talented very well trained yet emotional singer she delivers power and emotion when she is singing she is probably my favorite vocalist.... much love and respect
I loved Jennifer Hudson in CATS it was worth more than what the movie ticket cost, to me it was a priceless performance/ rendition of this song....that I have heard hundreds of times by other artists and cats performers had never brought me to tears as hers did in the Movie, and Her vocals here on the voice is just so on point, spot on stellar ....I'm deceased by it! Bravo to Jennifer!!!!
Wow, Jennifer Hudson did a fantastic job with this song! I cannot wait to go see CATS soon just to hear her sing it in that movie too! She’s 2nd only to Elaine Paige. In my opinion, Elaine did it the best.
I loved this version of Memory. I've listened to Jennifer, Barbara Streisand, Elaine Paige and Betty Buckley sing it. All of them did a great job. But, in terms of gut wrenching emotions, my top two would be Jennifer and Betty Buckley as their versions had me in tears. Bravo to all these ladies as they are all great. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 But, my emotional favorites are Jennifer and Betty.
I noticed the first time she sang ...”what happiness is” she left off the “h” and slid into it. Maybe a breathy thing? Obviously still beautiful-an iconic song. But I still love Elaine Page. 😊🙌🏻
I know you’ve done quite a few Xtina videos already, but I’d love to see you react to her performing It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World at the Grammys. It’d be really interesting to hear you talk about how she pays homage to James Brown’s vocal style blended with her own. Not to mention it’s one of the most iconic live performances of all time in my opinion.
The growl is a stylistic choice but is still technical and done correct. Please make sure to mention your opposition is simply your personal preference to any impressionable up n coming singers who may watch this.
You looked so EMOTIONAL reacting to her rendition!!! I can tell this performance touched you and brought back some serious nostalgia!!! Jennifer GREAT JOB! ❤️❤️❤️
I thought it was flawless. People seem really adamant about how it should be sung, but I don't know because I've never seen the play. I also like Celine Dion's version, so what do I know? As long as I feel the emotion and it sounds beautiful.
No cat costume lets the words of this song really be focused upon and felt. Jhudd brought a delicate emotional experience to this. Anyone can enjoy the beauty of these lyrics in this performance vs seeing so much costume and makep. Loooove.. no other performers have executed this with so much soul
The distortion or what ever techniq she used it in the " its so easy ... " part was magnificent + a lot of emotions were delivered through the whole performance 💜
I love these videos, even when I don't like the songs. You put the video on and the positive energy just flows out. Thank you and enjoy your Christmas :-)
Since there is almost nothing to criticise, except of what the expert noticed,i'd add that keeping ''has begun'' low doesn't,according to my opinion, fit with the meaning of the frase.
This comparison reminds me of the talent (AGT, BGT, Voice, etc.) shows but only focused on one song. By the time you get down to the final 12, I'm ready to split the million 12 ways. The guys, eh. It's a female role though they do well. The gals . . . it's like the most beautiful in a beauty pageant . . . everyone has different tastes. I defer to Paige because she "created" the original model for the piece and still gives me chills. She's also "age appropriate" for the role which contributes to the emotional aspect of the scene as written.
She brought bread & butter in a bag to sing this..... She gave us butties with this performance. Different from Betty Buckley & Elaine Paige - this had a soul twist. I grew up with Elaine Paige singing Memory, research gave me Betty - but this girl needs applause for giving this a 2019 / 2020 gut lifting performance. Jennifer Hudson gives me Aretha. I was no R&B fan, I am a The Smiths, Everything But The Girl, Cocteau Twins, Steeleye Span, June Tabor fan. I so much love your reacting to singers. How's about you belting a tune out lass? You know you have got pipes of plenty! Best wishes, David.
I know you've also done a clip while you were singing in a studio something from a movie musical or smth. Can't remember though which one it was but your duet was so fine.Since you like musical theatre Do try react to TOMMY JOHANSSON"s cover to "ANTHEM" from CHESS musical that Tim Rice and ABBA'S Benny and Bjorn wrote. That guy is a guitarist to the Power metal band Sabaton. But he's also a tenor. His performance on this is simply breathtaking and very movingFor me better than the original 1984 version.Chills.
