I really do believe that lower notes are underappreciated because so often I hear women hitting them wrong, or just not training themselves for them. also you get major brownie points for including linzi hateley, she's a low note QUEEN.

It goes to show just how much voice is societal, and not just a hard fact. In fact, pitch and resonance are a big portion of what gives a voice its regional identity. This is why girls from New Jersey speak differently from girls from Ohio, as do they sound different from Louisianan girls, as from girls from France, as from girls from Turkey, as from girls from India… beyond even their otherwise accents. The voices are used differently. Rant to come immediately. Chest notes are often undertrained in women and overemphasized for men. The existence of contraltos male sopranos is a great counter to how inherent male and female voice is. While a lot of it is physiological, a lot of it is also, I think, based out of the psychology and personality of the person using it, and if one seeks they can train into having lower notes through building their chest & fry registers and expanding their pharyngeal space, or train higher through learning to mix their voice and manipulate different registers as well as their laryngeal height. And this can impact the default. There is a lot of construction too around how we type singers: Carol Burnett for instance is typed often as a mezzo, but sings from Ab3 to F6 in a performance that is in the theater high notes video on this channel, and strugglingly sustains an E3 on this video. What mezzo has a stronger F6 than an E3? Well, one who has trained the former note more. She is probably more of a full lyric soprano by my standard, but who’s to say? Julie Andrews had low notes just as if not more strong (see her F3 here) while still being able to connect into the rafters as well. There are plenty of male singers too, like Chris Cornell, Ian Gillan, Geoff Tate, who would have credence in being considered natural or at least potential baritones, but are or were capable of singing well into and even past tenor range. Brendon Urie has been typed as a low tenor by some, and some laymen would hear his low notes as impressively resonant for someone labeled a tenor; all the more with Patrick Stump. What gives them that capacity to sing across 3.5-4.5 octaves coherently? Is it biology? Or is it training? There are plenty of sopranos who struggle to sing below the A3-C4 region; is that biology, or is it lack of experience with that range? Is Mariah a true coloratura soprano, with a modal range easily capable of F6 and stronger up there than at F3, or is she a mezzo that learned to sing into the rafters (which, even some otherwise conventionally voiced men have proven capable of doing too)? How is Audra McDonald, a lyric soprano, singing like Billie Holiday at 5:03? If A3 to D6 is a standard lyric soprano range, why can so many lyric sopranos sing with relative comfort beyond it? Why do some have darker and more resonant timbres at the bottom than they do at the top? Are they sopranos? If they can sing a C6 comfortably, by some mode they certainly are fulfilling that…

@@gillianomotoso328 What do you think about the stereotype that black people, especially black women, have lower voices or at least can sing lower?

Natalie Weiss is inhuman for her lows to be that good while also being able to mix the entire fifth octave 😂

I was always surprised that people never really talk about Carol Burnett's high notes. She has a pretty high and comfortable extension deep into the sixth octave. In fact, she did a glissando from F3 to F6 in one of her more recent recordings. And that strong belt she has. She could have easily been an opera singer if she wanted to with that head voice and chest voice. Quite a big voice.

Great video, thanks for posting! Did some fact-checking: 2:06 Patti sings a G#3 here, not F#3 3:57 Elaine reaches down to a Eb3, not E3 4:21 Pearl sings an Eb3, not E3 7:06 For Sara's clip, I can't hear the B2, what I hear is F3-D3-C3-F3 so the lowest note would be C3
