Interesting. What percentage are you estimating? I genuinely don't think source gear matters much past a certain point after auditioning several one right after the next
few components were changed - according to Musician with parts that have a better cost-performance ratio. As the price didn't go up I would say that this was the major achievement. Sound difference is probably very minor. I have a Peg 1 and this review would match with that one perfectly. The current Chinese DAC to check out in this price range is the Cyan 2 made by Holo Audio.
Thanks for thus review! Given I understood it's not a bright sounding DAC by any means, if you had to pick one characterisation of its presentation, what would it be: upfront or laid-back? Thanks!
Thanks for the review, it is nice to hear your take on some of the peices from that brand in regards to build and sound along with your comparison to some other brands that may be more falimiar.
Why no comparison with the Denafrips Ares 12-1? Not only is the Denafrips closer in price than the Bifrost, but I have read numerous times that the innards of Musician DACs are virtual clones of Denafrips units.
hard to compare and it depends on the rest of the gear - I have an R2R DAC-Amp that is comparable to the EF400 - with the right headphones that works fine. I also tested this DAC-Amp in my main (loudspeaker) system - replacing my Pegasus and pre-amp - and then the difference was rather large.
