Beautiful ! Sibelius is mostly underrated

I KNEW you would like this one! Wasn’t that something? Sibelius was a violinist, and his orchestral writing, especially for the strings, was exceptionally beautiful. He understood all the instruments of the orchestra very well and knew how to get the exact colors he was looking for.

Love a bit of Sibelius. Usually called "Nightride & Sunrise" in English, its just one of Sibelius' many masterworks. Another instantly recognisable composer. Further listning: The ubiquitous 2nd and 5th symphonies of course, but also the one-movement 1st. And the great Tone Poems of which the best known is probably the gorgeous Swan of Tuonela; Tapiola also worth your time, Jeff. Sibelius of course, from the cpuntry that produced the great Tuomas Holopainen. In fact in the Wacken 2013 Nightwish concert you will have seen Tuomas' keyboard stand inspired by the Sibelius monument in Helsinki. Handing off the theme or motifs from one instrument to another is a standard technique in classical composition - youll see it all the time
