I was going to ask who the tattooed, windmilling imposter that I saw fronting Nightwish this week was 😂 Kidding, of course. You will get plenty of requests for songs from Wacken which are great, but I think you will really appreciate some of the vocal lines in addition to the music from their newest album Human Nature. Shoemaker, Pan, and Music are a few to start. If you want to see a much grittier version of Floor and Nightwish from newer material, Weak Fantasy Live from Tampere or Yours is an Empty Hope Live from Wembley or Mexico City are good options.

You already understand that Floor has a unique talent, I would dare say it is a unique talent in a generation. As you can imagine, behind this talent are already over 2 decades of training and performance at the highest level of the symphonic metal genre. 7 Dutch singers from various musical genres were invited to this TV show in the Netherlands. For Floor, it was an opportunity to show to a wider audience that metal can be accessible, and that it deserves its place in the mainstream media, given that until now it was considered underground in the Netherlands. As an unexpected effect of this TV show, Floor did a series of solo concerts in the Netherlands in early 2020, with a compilation of songs from her entire career (After Forever, Revamp, Northward, Nightwish, Beste Zangers), and very recently released her first solo song, called "Fire". I hope you will continue this journey of discovery. I promise you won't regret it.

@@StrateleStudios As a Jazz musician and music snob who never got the whole symphonic metal vibe (always sounded like cheese to me) after listening to Nightwish... I get it now. Floor is a big part of it... but the complicated and gorgeous compositions, the layering, and the impeccable musicianship of Nightwish as a whole (even to a Jazz snob maniac like me) is undeniable. If you do go down this rabbit hole... I implore you to watch the Wacken Live 2013 versions of any Nightwish songs suggested, if it was on their set list that night. That concert, in my humble opinion, is Nightwish at their peak. Its one of those concerts where everyone and everything, including the crew, the lighting team, the pyro guy, the engineers, and even the crowd, were firing on all cylinders. Hell, even the camera work recording the performance is stellar. It's just a complete concert experience and, again imo, is the greatest example of anything Symphonic Metal I've ever seen. Nothing even comes close.

This was one of Floor's many stunning performances from the Dutch show Beste Zangers. (Please review them all!) Even long time fans of Floor were shocked by her jaw-dropping versatility. By the way, this isn't a competition -- all the people sitting on the couches are amazing artist (one is the host). Each week they honor one of the artist by singing songs that are important to them. That season was absolutely astounding.

@@StrateleStudios My opinion better than Lady Gaga. From the same show check out Phantom of the Opera with Floor and Henk Poort who was the original Dutch Phantom (1000+ performances). If you want to check out Nightwish then try Romanticide from Wacken Metal festival 2013 or Dead Boys Poem from Buenos Aires 2018.

Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora. Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy. Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6) She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016. From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour. On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. She is not only the best singer I have ever seen but she is also the best performer. I had the privilege to see her with Nightwish a couple of days ago and you could tell she made a personal connection with everybody in that audience. They went two hours and she did not miss one note and she was as strong at the end as she was at the start. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen and you can tell how genuine she is and how much she loves to sing. Just seeing her in video cannot prepare you for how incredible she is live.

When I first saw her live with Nightwish at Wacken 2013, I instantly fell in love with her, like almost every guy in the crowd. The girls just all wanted to be like her. She took us all by storm. When you get to the opener of the Wacken 2013 show "Dark Chest Of Wonders", you can see it in the eyes of the people in the crowd. Most hadn't seen her with Nightwish, but there were rumours spread how good their South American Tour went in Fall/Winter 2012. So the expectations were high. But she just blew us all away. Yep, the Beste Zangers is originally a Dutch TV show. The first season was in 2009 and it's still going on. The format has been broadcast over the years under various names in several European countries and also outside Europe. - This show with Floor Jansen and 6 other great singers (sitting on the couches) representing different genres: rock, pop, opera,... was filmed in Ibiza Spain in 2019. Each day one of the seven singers sat on the middle couch with the host and talked about his/her life and career and the other singers sang songs of that person's repertoire, or songs that have been important to that person. No competition, just talking, singing and having fun with each other. Floor sang this song to Emma Heesters, the blond girl in red dress, whose turn it was to sit on the middle couch with the host.

Floor has such an impressive range and power, but what surprises and impresses me every single time is when she makes it very soft and small and trailing off into a whisper. she keeps full control of diction, tone and breath control until the very end when it trails into nothing. That is so incredibly difficult.

Classical training prepares singers for so much versatility through proper technique. Floor of course is incredibly naturally gifted but she also put the work in to become the jaw dropping performer that she is.

It’s not only her impeccable technique that makes her such a great performer.. She’s also an incredible empath, who know what the song she is singing embodies.. She is sooo in touch with the emotions that have been poured into the lyrics by the writer and is able to convey those emotions in a way very few people have been or are able to do.. I can not remember that in my 45 yrs I’ve come across any other singer that actually could move me to tears.. Thanks Jeff for the shout out, but honestly, the suggestion was for your benefit because I was already an instant fan from this performance. She has a considerable instrument she's mastered. While I'm sure others will fill you in, Beste' Zangers is a Dutch TV show that gathers a small, diverse genred group of peers, set them down in a intimate exotic location, back them with the excellent Marcelo Fisser Band and each show has one of the group act as "guest" and the others sing songs that are either theirs or they have a connection to. No voting, or other contrived pretext, just singing for each other. I think a wonderfully constructed program. It also was a coming out party for Floor inasmuch as most of the performers were unfamiliar with her as were her fellow country folks. On Floor's set of performances she sings in several different languages including German and Spanish. From Floor's solo concert in Amsterdam last fall, there are several well done songs. Another in this vein I enjoy is Slow, Love, Slow and more up tempo Storm in a Glass though it's not limited to those two by any means. She's pretty young, but she just won a Grammy this year for her composition of "Bridgerton, the Musical" based on the tv show by the same name. I mention her because Quincy became her mentor when she was around 10 or so. She was a prodigy on the piano from about age 3. Beste Zangers is a Dutch TV show where singers from different genres get together and each week one singer is chosen and the others have to either sing songs from the chosen singer's catalogue or songs that are special to that chosen singer. It's not a competition but rather a celebration. Floor performed 8 times singing 7 different songs ( she performed a duet of Shallow too) including an amazing version of Phantom Of The Opera! There's an emotional quality that certain singers seem to be able to infuse into the lyrics, combined with their technical abilities, their natural tones, and their vocal range. We've all heard singers perform songs that they have no business doing, and then there's other who can sing anything. She's truly a rare talent. You should check out the other performances from the show. No one had heard of her before she appeared on the show, but they certainly knew her afterward.

De beste zangers (Dutch for best singers) is a show were Dutch artists (some with already a big career, and other less famous) sing for each other (and us of course) in every episode one of the artists stands in the spotlight, and the other artists sing a song that's special for him or her (something it's their original song or from an artist that was inspiring for them) what makes it so great that there is no competition element, so the performing artists are more relaxed to get out of their comfort zone and trying new (and surprising) things

If you like the concept of Beste Zangers, you can also check out the trio Ogene. They are sisters who sang their whole life. They perform “sing” with an amazing trick in it. And “clown” makes everybody crie. During the pandemic they recorded from their own homes “bohemian rapsody” and got recognition of Queen themselves. The deliver beautiful perfect harmonies and were the first ever who got in The Voice as a group. They won ofcourse.

Beste Zangers (best singers) of the Netherlands is a program in which Dutch singers perform for the others or sing their songs in their particular way. It’s not a competition! It’s just enjoy each others music styles. All of them are excellent musicians … and than you have Floor … Floor Jansen is Dutch born and raised but, I guess there were very little Dutch people that actually knew her before this program (lead singer of the Finish metal-rock band living in Sweden) A great program with great vocals and a super band. There are more excellent performances, the discussions are sometimes important to understand the emotions in the group. Subtitles should be available. Perhaps not for your show but for you to understand the context. (I assume you don’t understand Dutch)

PRIOR to Fall of 2019 Floor's *NATIVE Country the Netherlands, in general, NEVER heard of Floor Jansen because they don't play metal on the radio there. So only if you were ALREADY a metal head you would've known her from After Forever, ReVamp and/or Nightwish. So, Netherlands = NO METAL. (generalizing) When Floor appeared on the show Beste Zangers in season 12 (No, not a competition, but a singing show where Dutch artists sing to each other when one of them sits on the couch for the whole episode, Floor's "couch" episode was ep4). When all the singers arrived for the show, the ONLY one who knew anything about her was Tim Akkerman who knew her from her time in After Forever. All everyone else knew was some "Metal" singer was going to be on the show. To make this SHORT, she blew everyone away INCLUDING audiences that were watching at their homes on tv. (Watch ALL 8 performances and you’ll be blown away!!!) Floor NOW became known in the Netherlands, so much so that when she was contacted to book Solo shows she agreed and 9 shows were INSTANTLY sold out!!! BECAUSE many were NEW fans from her time on the show Beste Zangers Floor carefully selected songs from her musical history that would SUIT the audience she was playing to. She said it was tricky to do it in a way where people wouldn't say it was "TOO hard" or "not hard ENOUGH". Floor added a 10th solo show to the list and started a crowd funder where fans around the world pitched in to have the show recorded and released in digital streaming platforms, money was also raised for a cool documentary of the show (which is released already to her paid Floor-funders on RU-vid, such as myself). Unfortunately that show had to be delayed because of Covid 19 and lockdowns. FINALLY in September they were able to do the show and it was all recorded. I'm giving you this history because it was announced that EACH week, as the full show is being put together, she is releasing one song/performance. Last week it was "Ever Dream". (other Nightwish songs performed were "Nemo", "Elan", "Decades in the Sun", “Slow Love Slow”; the other songs came from her previous bands After Forever, ReVamp, Northward project, songs performed on the Beste Zangers show and cover songs she has been releasing on her youtube channel since the pandemic started last year.) They will have a Rock "sauce" but it is NOT a metal show at ALL. She does 2 musical numbers including "Phantom of the Opera" and she does a cover of Lady Gaga's "Shallow" that she performed on Beste Zangers.

NoOne Thank you for your comment. One small detail though. The Netherlands is Floor's native country. The term 'home country' is less accurate in her case as she doesn't live there anymore. There is a different meaning between the two. Floor is native Dutch as she is of Dutch heritage and she was born and raised in The Netherlands. Dutch is her native language. But her home country right now is actually Sweden as her home is quite literally in Sweden not in The Netherlands.

I see Gabriel has explained the Netherlands TV Show, Beste Zangers, so might I say Floor owns “Shallow” now. She did it twice that season. She sang this version to the young woman in red, Emma Hester’s. Each invited singer, those on the coach , sang the focused singer of the night’s songs, or interests. In the case of Emma, she is You Tube Cover entertainer, so no real songs of her own, so in an interview at the show, she chose to sing Shallow to her as a big sister, as she mentioned being older. Emma was early twenties at the time. Floor, & Tim Ackerman in the green striped shirt,sang it duet for someone else, cannot remember who. You might want to check it out comparatively, I probably prefer the duet, but love this too.... ALL FLOOR! She also sings “Phantom of the Opera”, marvelously I might add with Henke Porte, the actual Phantom of the Netherlands musicals. I see you caught Floor IS the lead singer of Nightwish, & they are currently on tour in the US! 🤘🔥❤️

I really enjoyed your reaction and analysis! Floor has become my all-time favorite singer in the past year or so. She can do so many styles brilliantly and consistently. It's almost witch-like how incredibly great she is live on a consistent basis. She just seems to nail it every single time. I always say, Floor is great in the studio, but she gets her superpowers when performing live. And not just her voice, but she's also an amazing performer with tons of charisma and stage presence (not really relevant in this setting). And if all that's not enough, she's also very humble and kind. Just the total package.

I absolutely agree with the other recommendations here for Nightwish songs. If I could discuss Floor's solo efforts for a second, she just this month is releasing solo songs from a German language TV special similar to "Beste Zangers", called "Sing Meinen Song". The first selection from that series, "Over Too Quickly", originally by German songwriter Clueso, and covered by Floor in a "rock-style" approach, came out exceptionally well for her, and, with all due respect, somewhat better than her recently released first actual "solo" song, "Fire". "beste zangers" [best singers] is a compatition between know singers in holland. They sing each others songs. Floor sang a song for Emma Heesters, a youtube singer that does covers. (blonde in the red dress). Realy nice to watch , they are all good singers in there own right. But the thing is , now they need to go out of there comfert zone and sing :)

As you know "old" Nightwish (Tarja era), I think you will be blown away by Floor's performance of Ghost Love Score, live at Waken 2013. Shallow is amazing....GLS is Epic. Enjoy the newer rabbit hole that is Nightwish Third Era.

I think you should react to Floor's single Fire if you haven't already. I think it belongs on the radio. I also think you should react to the band the Warning. They are 3 sisters from Monterey Mexico and right now they are on tour in the 🇺🇸. I think you should react to them doing Choke, Z, Dust to Dust. Floor is very versatile and she started out at 16 and now she's 41. With the Warning all three can sing but only Pau and Dany do most of the songs. Ale is the bassist and is 17 Pau the drummer is 20 and Dany the lead singer and lead guitar. On Beste Zangers nobody knew who she was except one person.

Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves +. When listening to Floor sing, it is apparent that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres, and is a Master vocal coach. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. It is incredible how she is able to take any song from any genre and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal, Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet. Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole. Nightwish Army U.S.A. 🤘🏽 ( Urban Operators ) in the house.

Know what's even more unbelievable? Before performing on this show, almost no one in her own country knew who she was. On the first show, she sung to the older gentleman who's an opera singer. She ended up singing Vilja Lied to him which is a song that his mother used to sing to him as a child. She ended up being the first preformer on that season debut and you can see the reaction of everyone being blown away. You should check out that performance Vilja Lied (if you want to check out the entire series in your own time, it's definitely worth it) and watch Her and the older guy perform a duet of Phantom of the Opera. She has a very wide range of musical prowess, different styles and languages and she could even scream like a death metal singer. She's definitely worth a deep dive.

The new season Beste zangers just started and is pretty impressive also. Check them out! They do songs of the main guest or songs that have a special meaning to them. And there is a special duet episode every season. Floors duet with Henk is an instant epic.

Christmas Truce by Sabaton is outstanding in its own right. Listen to the vocals in the ending credits. Worth the effort. It adds another dimension to the video. The Valkyrie Goddess calling the fallen home.

Yes. Her innate musicality is based on a bedrock of finely homed skill. You are right, there is micro-intentionality in every phrase - every note & every breath between. Very few can do this at this level. Just gorgeous.

The Beste zangers is a Dutch show where singers sing songs of others to each other. You should she more Nightwish live at Wacken...or Wembley. But first look at Phantom of the Opera with Henk Poort from the same show "Beste Zangers" it will blow your mind....

A big welcome to the Nightwish and Floor Jansen Universe. This is the universe where you won't believe your ears and mind. You will discover lyrics, composing and singing like nothing else - not kidding. Floor destroyed the others a few times on live TV in that show with different cover songs - but when you add some of Tuomas's lyrics to a storyteller of Floor format - you will get the ultimate experience. You are a lucky guy, not knowing what is coming towards you. You know the old Nightwish - but with Floor on lead..... She has made the old songs her own - and the new songs Tuomas has written to her incredible voice and breath techniques... You are indeed a lucky man 😉

Excellent Reaction! You really should check out the first night of this show. Floor was the first singer and Henk (the older gentleman on the end of the couch) was on the middle couch and Floor sang an Opera song called Vilja Lied (in German) to him. Henk's mother used to sing it to him when he was a little boy. But please, don't use the AVROTROS video when you choose which video to react to. Go to a womans channel called jenniezelf. She has several video's from this show where it shows them sitting around the couches talking before (and after) the singer gets up to sing. Only one person there had ever heard Floor sing and when she sang an Opera song they were blown away to say the least.

Yes! You got Me at «Master, apprentice» . We didn't do it at work, but at parties in the military. Wishmaster live from the dvd was essential to a good night! I abselotely LOVE Shallow from the movie, but THIS… THIS is so sublime!

yes you should check out the beste zangers 2019- her home land / country -didn't really know her until she was on this show- she also sings in other languages- as the previous comments the person in the middle couch is the one the other singers are singing to- first episode you can see their reaction to her-singing first time-Vilija lied to Henk Poort- love me some floor and Nightwish!! keep em coming!!
