@@sammyb528 Ludwig is going to be in Part 2! I might make a part 3 for Laurence, but it'll be past Halloween at that point haha. Still could be fun to do though!
Hi! Bloodborne veteran and pianist here. The sound you were hearing in Lullaby for Mergo is a baby carrier swaying and creaking. The boss for that song is Mergo's Wet Nurse, where mergo is essentially a child that is one of the main plot beats in the story. Gehrman's theme, by a wide margin, is the most melodically satisfying and moet closely inspired by real classical/romantic music. Gehrman is essentially your friend throughout the game. He is one of the first people you meet that doesn't try to kill you, and he directs you and guides you across the entire game. Until, at the end of the story, he makes a decision, or rather, makes you decide something, that brings the story to its ultimate climax. Not only is it a conclusion to the story, its two friends trying to spare eachother an eternity of suffering for the other. He sacrifices everything to try to save you. Both of these themes, like most songs in Bloodborne, are boss themes. Then, we have my favorite one of the ones you reacted to. The Title theme. In the soundtrack, this piece is called "The Night Unfurls", which illicits the very apt imagery of the Night being some kind of winged beast that goes out to hunt. Which is interesting, because the game takes place over the course of a single night, where you, the protagonist, are the Hunter, slaughtering the beasts that kick off the plot. Overall, amazing and insightful reaction. I would highly suggest listening to more Bloodborne tracks, as in my opinion, you haven't even scratched the surface of what is in my opinion some of the most important and impactful video game music in modern times. Here are some pieces from this game that I would highly recommend: -Ludwig, the Accursed & Holy Blade (this song is often split into two parts, phase 1 and phase 2) -Orphan of Kos -Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower (my personal favorite)
@@fallenarchami5439 Wow, what an incredibly thorough and informative comment! Thank you so much! I did read something about Gehrman and a certain 'Maria' which I also believe is partly why his theme is the way it is. I do have a part 2 coming next week where I reacted to Ludwig, Cleric Beast, and Dream Refuge! If enough people like it/want it, I could do a part 3 with the other tracks you suggested 🎶 Someone on TikTok recommended Lawrence as well, do you think that'd be a good one to listen to? Thank you for taking the time to watch the video!
It’s funny how in these bloodborne reaction videos there is always someone from the community that is willing to give deep insight on such a lore driven game and soundtrack.
@@TeraCMusic Laurence is a great theme, and it is also quite melodically satisfying like Gehrman. Not my favorite, but it has a lot of incredible competition. If I had to choose, my list for a part 3 after Hunter's Dream, Ludwig, and Cleric beast, I think the ones that would be most interesting for you as a musician after that would be Maria, Orphan of Kos, and Hail the Nightmare. Hail the Nightmare is a "quieter" non-boss theme, and besides the music that plays in the Hunter's Dream, Hail the Nightmare is the only song on the soundtrack that plays ambiently in a specific area in the game. I will be happily returning in your next reactions to offer insight on the lore and intentionality behind the music as it relates to the game.
It's super cool to research the lore a bit after sharing my initial observations and thoughts! He sounds like a very important character to the story, and I felt that sorrow to the core from the music. Whoever composed the track did a phenomenal job with evoking those emotions!
I always find it so impressive and inspiring how well the soundtrack is composed, especially in the storytelling. You legitimately described a nutshell of Gehrman’s story/motivations by just hearing the music that plays when fighting him! It’s so satisfying as a listener, a reactor, and a player. Thank you for reacting! (Also I guarantee people say ludwig, maria, orphan of kos, cleric beast, and stuff like that, but living failures is my favorite BB ost, probably favorite ost period)
Thank you so much for watching! Part 2 will have some of your mentions but I added the others to my list for a Part 3! Seems like a lot of people want me to react to Living Failures so I'll make sure to do that!
I love to see musicians reacting to From Software games OSTs and having a greater understanding of the characters by their music alone than some people who played through the game completely, great video ❤
@@SweetWitchNerd Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and comment! Part 2 will be out next week sometime (hopefully) and then I might do a Part 3 as well!
That's so crazy what you said about Gherman. Unfortunately, the player is the tragic thing that happens to him. This track plays when you fight him. He attempts to free you of your curse, but you are consumed by it, and refuse his offer. The lore of bloodborne is super dense and complicated but a big theme is one losing their humanity. The sorrow in that song could be seen as Gherman's sorrow as a fellow hunter. He led you down a path of voilence that slowly caused your sanity to slip away until you literally refuse to return to reality.
@@mrvoodoo4046 That is just one possible ending though, right? I think I saw that you could also spare him or something? But man yeah, that's soo deep. I love it!
@TeraCMusic I mean yes and no I like to think the music is about you both trying to free the other, unless you're going for the baby Great one ending.
Cleric Beast is the classic banger from Bloodborne, they even have an official video with the orchestra playing. My personnal favorite is Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower (both favorite character and song).
YES. One of the best soundtracks of all time. You’ve only scratched the surface. Gotta do Part 2 with Ludwig’s theme, Lady Maria’s and Laurence’s! They will BLOW your MIND 😂
The Gehrman track takes place with two opponents fighting to save the other. Whoever wins the fight remains trapped in a nightmare, the loser wakes up.
9:07 you couldn't be more correct. Yeah there is ALOT going in on in that track that paints a very effective story around whats happening, who you're fighting, and why you're fighting him, its beautiful. Also, you NEED to listen to Lady Marias Theme
I like that even though you never played the game, you try to interpret what is going on with the music. It would be interesting to hear from Bloodborne fans if you were right on or not. What other games have you not played but would be interested to interpret the OST
There are so many lol! I've only played a little bit of Genshin Impact, so that could be a cool one to do. Also haven't actually played much of Visions of Mana either but that OST is really good from what I've listened to so far
+1 for Ludwig The Accursed / Holy Blade, and Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower. They're some of my all time favorite pieces. Bloodborne soundtrack and Shadow Of The Colossus soundtrack are always vying for my top OST of all time.
You have a very good ear, & as others have said you absolutely nailed Gehrman's story for the most part. I will say your reaction to Lullaby for Mergo was one of the more unique ones as well, not to be a sadist but loved seeing your discomfort at those subtle sounds in your ear. 10/10, looking forward to he next one! Lastly I wills ay Fromsoft have a GREAT record with music, so if this is your first time hearing any of their tracks welcome, you just found PLENTY of content for future videos XD.
Excited to listen to more, especially as someone who would love to compose for videogames in the future! The more tracks I am exposed to, the better my own writing will become (hopefully)
I saw someone else recommend Living Failures, I 2nd that. I also recommend, "Father Gascoigne, The Hunter," and ,"Terror." Both are pretty simple but also profoundly evocative. Finally I highly recommend, "Hail the nightmare." There are also countless others but I feel that these three are often underrepresented in request lists for reactions and I know that orchestral musicians would love them just as well as many of the more popular tracks. =)
@@beansnrice321 Great suggestions, thank you so much! There will definitely be a part 3 and I'll see what I can squeeze in! Living Failures is already on the list, and I did listen to some of Father Gascoigne, but didn't finish listening (so it might end up getting cut from Part 2).
@@TeraCMusic I'll sub to check out your next videos. Pone last point regarding Hail the nightmare, it is incredibly unique and avant-garde. It is done as a choral A capella with the main voice reading in a near monotone and the chorus singing incredibly dissonant yet sonorous responses. I forget the name of this style of vocal arrangement but it is sung in game. Normal there is only music during boss fights but this song is apparently being sung in the courtyard of a church in a so-called hidden village. You first hear it after having been kidnapped and the sense of dread and foreboding was unmatched for any game I have ever played. Which is/should be the point of video games. They should help you suspend disbelief and give you an unique experiences. Hail the nightmare being sung in game made me wonder about the choir, also a named faction in the game, because it was likely them singing the song in the game.
Please for the next Bloodborne ost video, listen to the songs on the offical SIE Sound Team channel. Because other channels might add unnecessary sound effects to the songs which could ruin the experience, the ones on the SIE Sound Team channel are the official songs
Just stumbled upon your channel, and I must say - the next one you shall listen to is either "Ludwig the Accursed and Holy blade" or "Living failures" Most reactors tend to overlook Living failures, however in my opinion it is such an amazing soundtrack, unpopular only due to the boss, whose theme it is, being unpopular. Please, do not overlook it. And Ludwig the Accursed will make you SO impressed, don't even want to spoil anything
You should definitely listen to Lady Maria's theme and the Orphan of Kos. The two have some heavy lore ties with Gehrman, the overall story surrounding them only enhances their already transcendant scores 🙏🏽
@@TeraCMusic Would love to see a series and maybe one for the other Fromsoftware games too! Dark souls 3 especially having a soundtrack comparitive in quality to Bloodborne. One other soundtrack I might recommend from Bloodborne is Ebrietas, daughter of the cosmos' theme. It's the closest thing to Cthulhu there is in Bloodborne and to paint an image, the composer commented this about the track. "While composing the music for Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos, I sensed themes of the universe, of finality, of something godly, and I was filled with visions of the end of the world as I worked on that song."
Fun fact, the music box is an item you can use in-game. It has the same tempo as the player's character's footsteps. It's not a coincidence that this synchronicity happens. It hides a profound cosmic truth behind its design. Edited for grammar check.
Oh wow! Funny enough, I always try to match my pace to whatever song I'm listening to when walking/jogging (I think it's called Entrainment?). Does the music tempo change when the character runs? 🤔 So many awesome ideas and deep lore in the music and how it fits into the game!
I'm gonna need track suggestions for those other games! I was completely unsure which tracks were good and which ones I should've skipped for this vid and Part 2 😅
@@TeraCMusic I promise I will give you so many worthy tracks, it'll give you content for months! For now, with Bloodborne, you have: Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower Ludwig the Accursed THEN Ludwig the Holy Blade Living Failures Laurence the First Vicar Orphan of Kos End Credits theme I look forward to this! :) Subbed
Hehe he gave me his blessing to do some reactions as well! Although I think people seem to gravitate more towards the violin playalongs, but I'll give these general reactions a fair chance too!
