Oli actually did wreck his vocal chords years back, he used to have an insane high pitched shriek, but it wasn't proper technique at all and he pushed it too far. Today he uses proper technique to scream, but the damage actually gave his normal singing voice a really nice rasp and grittiness that he's used in his favor. I actually love his voice, because he was already very good at conveying emotion, but the raspiness of his voice pushed it to the next level.

i think you would enjoy listening to bmth-doomed live its with an orchstra and its not really heavy

On the note you made about technique, the lead singer (Oli Sykes) used to use incorrect technique and actually ruined his vocal cords a few years back, but now he uses correct technique and his vocal cords have healed now and I think he sounds better than ever tbh! They’ve released a studio version too btw if you wanted to listen to it in your own time :)

Actually, that was just a rumor. I saw an interview with Oli where he said that he never damaged his vocal chords. It was just something people made up to explain BMTH's new, softer, more poppy direction. It was actually just the band moving in a new artistic direction because nobody wants to just stagnate. It was just an evolution.

In case you want to make a video exploring more of Bring Me The Horizon, you could check out "Shadow Moses", "Throne", ”Mantra", and "Parasite Eve" (oldest to newest). Those are singles from the past few albums. The videos are cool too! They have heavier stuff prior to "Shadow Moses" but everything after they started mixing in more electronic and not screaming the entire song. Maybe you could give us your take on composing a heavier song if you had to make one, or give us your thoughts on guitar parts/etc. Even if you don’t make a video, maybe you might discover some new tunes to play at the gym or something. Also, I’ll note in case a hardcore bring me fan sees this comment, I’m just listing in my opinion the most "accessible" songs for someone to start diving into the band.

I’ve never been a huge fan of “scream music” as you called it. I grew up in hick town, USA where the only radio station we could get was a country station. Obviously my music tastes have broadened since then, but this particular style was one of the few that just never did it for me. That said, as I was watching this for the first time, I just kept thinking…..”This is an award show…..this NEVER happens, this is insane!!!” This is the colab we never knew we needed. And it’s streamable on iTunes so it’s been blasting in my car all week! Enjoyed your reaction, as always!

The guitar part that sounds so cool actually sounds a lot like Bring me the Horizons biggest hit „Can you feel my heart“ :) I‘m not usually into screamo either but that song is a banger

This is so much more fun than the radio single. :) Sheeran grew up listening to a load of Slipknot, Cradle of Filth (they're from the same area), & other heavy stuff. Given that his last tour, which was just him & an overgrown looper pedal, was the biggest gro$$ing tour *ever* ,& thus his grandkids' grandkids now don't have to worry about money, maybe (hopefully) he'll indulge some of those heavier influences. I'd love him to do one of his mixtape-y collab things with an array of rock & metal bands in a similar way to that which he's already done with HipHop artists. Young Ed can blow if he chooses to btw.... check out "Blow" that he did with Bruno Mars & Chris Stapleton on one of the previous collab things, & be aware that opening vocal *is* Ed!! o_O I hear you regarding the screams & growls from heavy bands tend to just be too much. You can tell what I appreciate most in a rock/metal vocal from my username! I had never spent actual money on music from any band which employs extreme vocals until a couple of years ago when I came across Jinjer. I'd love to see what you make of their single "Vortex" from last year's "Wallflowers" album. The composition is *so* tasty.... but I'll not say anything more to spoil the surprise! ;)

You definitely need to watch more bring me the horizon. Also Oli did damage his vocal chords years ago by poor technique but now he has been doing it properly and he has grown so much as a vocalist and we are blessed to have bmth still releasing music all these years later 👌

Totally agree. I cannot understand the people who complain about their new style at all, their old stuff to me is awful. Chelsea's smile I like, and there is a hell believe me I've seen it Album, but Sempiternal onwards is the best, Oli +Jordan fish are the dream team right 😁❤️

5:39 I know there are several different screaming techniques, not sure what theyre called, but the technique depends on the singer and what works for them so depending on who you ask about screaming you could get a wildly different answer

Listen to any song from Bring me the horizon at the Royal Albert Hall the whole gig is just pure perfection, Doomed, Happy song, Avalanche, True friends, It never ends, Drown, av genuinely forgot how many times av watched that gig, if you want to hear Oli from BMTH scream check out Pray for plagues, Diamonds aren't forever, Alligator Blood, or their first couple albums Count your blessings, Suicide season, then see how they evolve over their next albums up till now, I saw them last September in their home town Sheffield it was the second best night of my life after me daughter being born, absolutely love them as I can relate to a hell of a lot of their songs

This song works but I do see it as a challenge or a chance because usually at music awards shows and just on the radio and in commercials and everywhere you don't get those harsher elements included within it. Metal and rock is a huge category, dozens and dozens of different styles, but it is not radio friendly because it doesn't usually fit into the song length you need to make it on where every song is around 3:30 so they can play several songs each hour plus commercials. They usually range from 5-20 minutes in length. The biggest metal shows are not in the US. Same with every band though, like you can take Metallica or the Grateful Dead, etc., you hear them but only a couple songs that are replayed and the rest of their amazing catalogue of music is not in this radio friendly time frames so you have to look for those elsewhere. I remember listening to Jim Ladd on KLOS rock radio when I lived in California, he played long songs, a huge range of music, blues, rock, metal, etc., and there were people mad because during his show they weren't playing the same 20 songs over and over again like they did the rest of the day, they weren't open to anything else but the standard every day set list that is repeated where you play them, click a button to shuffle them, then play them again. I love when things get changed up. This song is great, you can mix pop with metal or rock, there are songs where they blend reggae and metal, rap and metal as we have seen, then you have prog rock which can be any combination of things. Music is the theatre of the mind. Other than country I enjoy all of it.

Tear drops Avalanche Follow you with official video 🤣 Can you feel my heart Avalanche Don't go Throne OMG so many. But there not all about screaming at all. 😁😁

@@DerrikRockne he was screaming with the wrong technique and ruptured his right vocal cord in 2019 meaning he had to cancel the remainder of his US tour; but he was damaging them for a decade prior by screaming in his speaking voice which causes a huge strain on the vocals, (I'm not an expert - that's just going off of what I've read) he's had a teacher for the past few years though and now screams with more of a fry and it really shows with his recent live performances.
