It’s so refreshing listening to someone educated in music review this album. First guy I watched didn’t understand the concept of an overture and deemed the whole album trash. 😂😂
They've said in interviews that Joe was someone that Ryan really admired and wanted to be, instead of joe being someone who made fun of them or a bully.
From what I understand Joe is about a guy Ryan really looked up to in middle and high school and not that he didn’t care about Ryan but Ryan really looked up to Joe and Joe didn’t feel the same about Ryan and so they song is kind of saying yeah I’ve play sold out shows all over the world but what would Joe think? Would Joe be proud of me? Or would Joe still not care what I’m doing. Would Joe still be out doing me? And he’s saying I don’t ever think of you like telling himself stop thinking about him it’s been years, and has so many people proud of him but what about Joe? If that makes any sense.
You are the first reviewer who didn't make ugly faces and said "this is trash!" about AJR, but simply explained what they did (techniques etc.) and praised them for being unique. I immediately subscribed, people enjoying music and being surprised at certain parts is so fun! :) Also at 1:42, I started shaking my head as well, it's funny what a song can do to you.
I mean I don’t like ajr but I hate reviewers who just say it’s bad and don’t consider their taste in music. Theneedledrop is an exception because he said his reviews are not objective and they are his opinion.
@@evanpole4951 haven't watched the needledrop but I watched a few who said they were respected and professional and then just said that it's trash, while here the techniques are considered and explained. I just don't get why you would waste your time watching/listening to something you dislike while you could be having fun. And I prefer watching people being positive and having fun.
The "drumming" is a world champion beatboxer AJR found on tiktok. The whole album is so good!! They did a great album overview with some producing info on the Zach Sang Show on RU-vid that might be worth checking out :)
@@JacobRestituto if you haven't yet, you should listen to Come Hang Out by them as well. They consider Christmas in June as a more "I'm an adult now" follow-up to it.
@@priyalprabhu adam isnt involved in that from interviews i understand hes the first one to listen to the songs and gives feedback (tho its little to none) and is more involved with the business side of the band
Joe was a guy that Ryan really looked up to in school. Ryan always wanted Joe’s approval or attention, but it was not reciprocated. They said that they think lots of people have a “Joe.” I know I definitely had “friend crushes,” people who I thought were really cool and who I really wanted to notice me, but we never ended up moving past acquaintances.
In an interview, they pointed out that they didn't want to make it sound like they were saying "look at everything I'm doing now, look where I am." It was supposed to be more like "Even though I'm doing all this stuff, You are still in my head".
Honestly, it wouldn't surprise me that they split the audios that far for each part of the song. They had a friend in school who was "THE guy," and having one childlike vocal in one ear and an adult one in the other could be VERY metaphorical. Which, if nothing else, AJR is absolutely chalk full of metaphors
In reference to their DAW, at the beginning of the pandemic Ryan did some livestreams where he would breakdown the production of some of the songs from previous albums. He hasn't done any in a while but you might find them interesting
Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think the interesting “vocal-ish” sounds on the instrumental part after the chorus are actually made from a sample of a young Scottish boy doing vocal warm ups??? I think I remember them saying that at some point.
been waiting for this!! I suggest that u listen to the ok overtune which is a mashup of all the songs on the ok orchestra when you’re done, I feel like that’s something you’d enjoy:)) have a great day!
Can you listen to living room ajr music? Can you listen to Big idea, growing old on bleeker street, pitchfork kids, and Overture (for the living room album)
Those fast rhythms that you mentioned actually come from Mozart's Piano Sonata 16 in C Maj, K545 1st movement. You've heard the first part of that piece before, and the motif that Joe uses comes right after its intro. AJR does some really cool things with it, first with block chords and then with an echo-y edit to the rhythm!
Ryan is such a good producer with these songs and all of there songs are unique! Do a reaction to AJR’s I Won’t (find a YT video on it it isn’t released yet)
Can ANYBODY tell me what the high pitched/child-like voice is actually saying? at 3:01-3:05 (specifically at 3:05). I actually can't enjoy the song anymore because I can't make out what the high pitched sound is actually saying. Is it just them screaming "HEEEEE HEEEEEE" or what??
