❤I love everything you said. Thank you for sharing a bit of your personal experience. What I love about Ren is his willingness to share through his lyrics the pain and anger he was feeling, especially knowing that many people would be offended. This is him being honest, one of his best traits❤
Not all set resonates with everyone. I'm sure people that loved this track may have disliked others. And that's ok. It's about the message and the theme of each piece.
“Breaking your bones to make my furniture” is a callback to murderer “I sit on my throne made of bodies and bones” I absolutely love finding all the little connections between his songs he’s such a genius
I think people were caught off guard on this song by Ren because it was straight dark to most and didn't understand this song. Its amazing song and gets better more you listen to it!🔥
Ren is the court case, and We're O.J. So we're "beating" Ren, and Ren is the reason we get off. Also, the killing lyrics were indiscriminate. Ren was saying to kill everything, including your support systems and the people who love you. Something that is quite masochistic.
100%. Yep. I mentioned the kill everything. Killing your support systems and the people who boost you up. Amazing how he's able to create an artistic way to show his pain.
Ren reminded us in Hi Ren that the Brighter the light shines, the darker the shadow it casts. He just showed us in this song the 'darker the shadow' in a digestible tune we can relate with. Great react.
What a fantastic breakdown. That is exactly what I think this song is about and as you say so many people will miss this at that surface level. That makes me love Ren even more that he’s risking turning people of but staying true to yourself. It was clear in Hi Ren it’s not about numbers it’s about connecting with people that get it. Great job my friend. Peace
This track did shock me at first with the vitriol in it and it’s a song that overwhelmed me quite a bit with the layers to the beats and lyrics. Think watching reactions like this have helped me unpick it and appreciate it more. Love the call backs to previous Ren tracks like Animal Flow and Murderer - the deep voiced hook gave me Illest Vibes (one of my favourite parts of this track). This is a grower for me. Love your insights. Great reaction.
ren always finds a new way to attack a beat him referencing KRS-ONE nwa eminem method man he such a lyrical genius the way he set up for the eminem part saying supersonic brilliant reaction much love from uk #renegade
Great reaction! I have watched dozens of reactions to this song, and only three have gotten to the heart of the message of the lyrics. The cool thing is, all three of you came at it from different angles. 👍
I'm an old guy and not a natural hip hop fan. I followed Ren into rap because of his artistry and the melodic nature of his rap. It's interesting that, at first listen I was put off by the showing of violence in "Murderer," and what, at first, seems like violence towards others in "Masochist." Despite the title. I still don't enjoy the physical attack portrayed in Murderer. But I always trust that there is always a reason that Ren is showing us things that are disturbing. I have read comments from Ren about Masochist. Amazing that once I got past my initial discomfort with both Murderer and Masochist, I've come to appreciate the music in both. Ren doesn't make it easy on his audience, and its very obvious that he isn't at all interested in doing so. I have a slight concern that he leaves some people behind, limiting his audience, but what great artist hasn't done that? Thanks for your insight here and I'm sure that you're totally correct in your analysis, which of course only means that I agree with you. Be Well.
I think the great thing about "leaving people behind" is that you end up with people whor really understand and appreciate your music. I think the people who don't are honestly just not listening hard enough.
You completely nailed this reaction (as usual lol). I love this song and can relate on a personal level. Ren was even himself with the last line “forgive this mf masochist.” Thank you for this reaction. Good vibes to you and your family ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it! I feel like Ren's music always has a deeper meaning but I just haven't been paying attention in the last few songs. I had my analysis hat on this time.
I think you’re dead on with this analysis. I’ve been listening to this song so many times because I didn’t get it in the beginning. It’s about anger and frustration. Ren making this just makes him more human (relatable) and not something to put on a pedestal. I really love this song
I totally LOVE this song. I know this feeling by heart -- FUCK EVERYTHING, kill it all. Have felt that in my bones at least once in my life. It's pretty extreme, but not necessarily harmful unless you hang onto the feelings. It does hurt, though, and actually is a masochistic thing to do. I see the "kill these metaphors" line as the underlying sense of the whole thing. Even lashing out in anger he seeks freedom from the limitations that keep him stuck -- what Buddhists know as attachments. Really appreciate your insights. 💜
Best ever reaction to this song which Im a big fan of! Ren expressed it perfectly and you explained it perfectly! You identified 💯% what's behind this song and we can all relate as we curse all that sucks in our lives and alternately sucks the life out of us! But what follows is a regeneration and healing process! This was a powerful song and your reaction was a learning experience ❤
This track during a traffic jam! (We have something unique, bicycle traffic jams in the morning in Utrecht in the Netherlands) this week I survived them by having this track on repeat. Expressing my desire to Scorche the Earth! The Morpheus pill isn't perse a matrix reference, The Greek God Morpheus, God of Sleep, so sleeping pills or actually the whole bunch of psychiatric medication that almost all make you numb, zombie like, feeling like your skin is just sagging of your body. ❤ And loved your reaction! ❤ Edit: I actually think you are the first time explaining the masochist vs Sadist situation in this track correctly! And when being this I'll this depressed if I don't try to laugh I would cry and just die from not being able to do anything like breath or eat. ❤ you understand ❤
100%. I've been there so I was able to see what he was going for I think. And damn I didn't even know the other meaning of Morpheus. That makes more sense.
When you have to bear constant pain believe me you need to scream it out occasionally just to be able to carry on. Did laugh out loud choking the pope line.😅
he wanted it all gone..bring himself pain by deleting everything causing pain in different ways...so in deleting himself..it would kill it all in his head.... then his followers will honor him in death.
I am new to the channel and really enjoy your insights - you always manage to tell me some things i hadnt realised which is great! I had a few thoughts to add to yours...the 'bouncy' beat ping ponging all over the place, altho not at all chaotic actually, kind of gives me that feeling, a feeling of chaos and overwhelm - overfiring neurons due to all the emotion etc he is processing in the song. Another thought was about anger - anger as you are probably aware makes you feel much less vulnerable. I think subconsciously many people gravitate to anger as a response to trauma/depression/extreme distress or fear because of that. Also theres the Buddhist idea isnt there of giving up all attachments in this life - all things Ren wants to kill- in order to achieve freedom/peace/enlightenment. Really enjoying the videos
I think Anger to some is a sign of strength and not weakness, while sadness is a sign of weakness so when we are sad we channel that into anger, which is usually unfounded anger. I think that’s the dichotomy of what’s going on in this song.
Ren is siiiiiick! This track is such a nasty banger 🔥 Pretty sure the RENegade will follow this pied piper down to the dark depths of his rabbit hole even if he is wielding a knife instead of a pipe 🐰🕳️ 🗡️🐐 🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀🐀 Lucky he has found music as an outlet for all his frustration and anger 😅
@@mcflyjpit’s just hard not to love this man and his talent. He is an inspiration and he is changing lives. It’s a very wholesome cult 😅 I mean #NotACult 👀 😂 BTW I think the part about building furniture is likely a reference to Murderer where he sings “I’ll sit on my throne made of bodies and bones, because I’m mentally ill”. He is a clever boi connecting everything. I’m curious to see how well everything on the album fits together - though it will probably take quite a few listens to pick up on everything or at least most. I’m not too confident that I will actually notice every little Easter egg 😅 Also I like how you point out the percussive character of his rapping. I think one of the brilliant things about Ren is his musicality and how it comes through in everything he does. He isn’t just a rapper with some clever lyrics and cool flows. You can hear how he approaches tracks from a holistic perspective and with an understanding of music overall. Everything always just feels so *intentional*. Anyway, I think that if anyone gets offended by this song then they just don’t get it. Or they don’t get Ren. Anyone who has been through hardship can understand that feeling of just wanting to cut away everything and for all of it to end. And Ren has been through hell. This actually just seems like a very healthy way to deal with it. Let it all out in his art instead of always carrying the frustration and anger with him. Props to him ❤
I think was the biggest issue people had with thus song was that they either didn't know what a masochist is, or were only familiar with sexual masochism. And the people who didnt k ow what it was looked it up, got the definition relsting to sex and then were even more confused lol. You're the only reactor I sub to that really got it - fabulous reaction man I wish everyone saw this one cause I think you nailed it!
It's art. If you take what he's saying at face value it didn't make sense. But if we dive deeper to understand the deeper meaning then it starts to make sense.
Besides your well interpretred reason why this song is called masochist, here is my approach to it. As someone who is - as so many- also struggling with mental health issues I think when you're in a situation/phase where you think the entire world is against you because you cant't stand the suffering anymore you will come to a point where you jsut wanna kill everything around you knowing there will be painfull consequences for it and therefore consciously escalte your pain to a point where it can't get any worse, because from there on it only can get better.
Hey ya, like your in depth reacts. Could you please tell me if the chorus with the deeper voice is Ren with a production over it, or someone else like Victus? Ren usually states if with someone.
Great reaction, as so often. I don't particularly like this song, maybe because on a surface level I just don't like the more or less senseless violence anymore. Watching a couple of reactions, including yours...I still don't like it much, I just understand it better. This time it's because I don't really like to be reminded of the time where I was like that. Lashing out (privately/online) at everyone, treating everyone around me like shit - not intentionally but due to my pain dominating my thoughts so much I just couldn't care for other human beings. I hated myself then and songs like this evoke that same feeling. So it's still a good song, I just don't like it.
@@mcflyjp after the release I didn't think I'd watch it/listen to it again, I was so turned off. But the more reactions I watch the more I like it. I do enjoy reflecting on the past and how I acted to see how far I've come as well, but not as often, maybe. And for me personally, that pain and anger and sadness is channeled more through metal and hardcore music, so maybe that's an issue too. Again, good song, just not my cuppa
During my first watch I didn’t enjoy this song even though I am a Ren fan. I understand and appreciate the criticism and critique of western civilization and society. This just seemed too at first too dark to me which may seem to be the point especially from the breadcrumbs of the trail from previous song releases which provides context. There seems to be no playfulness which also maybe the point. Ok, after watching several reactions I can see Ren is being playful with the beats, flow, cultural references, and of course word play. But REN’s choice of words in his lyrics shows how dark Ren’s eternal dance and mental state has been. As expected Knox’s, Cliff bests, Black Pegasus, yours, and other reactors and their analysis 🧐 on Ren’s lyrics and flow has been enlightening. This song is not something I would choose listen to on repeat often because of the violent nature of his choice of violent words. Darkness concentrated. Even though his use of kill seems so violent at first it is also what humans as a whole on this planet 🌍 are doing both by individuals, groups, tribes, governments, corporations, organizations, organizatized religions, and cults.
Ren's music usually has a deeper meaning. In this case it did. Maybe the last few did too but e weren't looking hard enough. I like that mental illness is being discussed through his music.
