Musician Reacts to We Don't Talk About Bruno from Disney's Encanto.
Lin Manuel-Miranda strikes again with another amazing song in an animated Disney film. The latin vibe in this song, inspired by the location in Columbia the film is based in, definitely brings a flavour to this film that more Disney films could benefit from.

I like the ending because it makes you feel like you were just slapped in the face. It’s almost like it just gives you a serving of stress that just fits into the movie.

I've watched so many reaction videos to this song and you're the only one who actually noticed and pointed out that the last 'verse' is actually all of the verses layered together. Some people said there were only 2 melodies in this part, and I was in disbelief that they weren't hearing all of them. Thank you for saying it!

As a matter of fact, ColUmbia with a "u" is in Canada, the country you might be referring is ColOmbia with an "o" which is located in South America, quite different from Cuba, another country.

The most interesting thing about this song is the type of song it is. As anyone that has watched this movie knows, the family's name is Madrigal. What most people don't know is that this song is a "madrigal", which is a layering of different melodies within the same song, as they do at near the end of the song. It's a play on words without having to speak the words. That is MASTER CLASS Lin Manuel Miranda! Also, great reaction adding in your obvious high level knowledge of music!

Totally agree. In fact I think it's the first Disney soundtrack that I've listened to the whole of it including all the instrumental ones multiple times and genuinely enjoy the the instrumental ones very often just as much as the singing ones. Then again it helps if you love Latin American music already. But yeah just love it. Lol forward to seeing your reactions to the rest of the songs.

One of my favorite things about LMM is how steeped he is in so many different genres and how beautifully he blends classic musical theater with hip hop and Latin music - that layering moment is part of such an awesome musical theater tradition going back to One Day More in Les Mis, The Music Man, West Side Story, and even back to Gilbert and Sullivan. It's always been my favorite musical theater trope and I can never get enough of how he takes that tradition and turns it into something so catchy and uniquely him!

A small touch that I don't see many people comment on - at the end of the "madrigal" part of the song, Isabella changes her line from her verse earlier to "and I'm fine, and I'm fine, I'm fine, I'm fii-i-iine", which is a bit of subtle foreshadowing to her story later.

I love this movie a lot my daughter loves it too. This song is my favorite and then Surface Pressure. We don’t talk about Bruno actually passed Let it go from Frozen thank god lol. Camilo and Dolores are my favorite parts in this song. Camilo where he shape shifts into “Bruno” and then Dolores part with the little quiet rap.

I can understand that the rhythm could be misleading. It’s called montuno, with a heavy influence from Caribbean rhythm, especially from Cuba, that traveled to coastal towns along Central and South America, including Colombia.

I like where you head is at! However, musically the end chord is the root of the key, so because the harmony is resolved it doesn’t feel like we’re in suspense or anything; it just feels like the song ends more abruptly than I’d anticipated 🤷🏾‍♂️

Honestly, I don't think there were too many interruptions, no more than most other reaction videos... and that's the whole point of why you're doing it, isn't it? To react to it? As long as you rewind slightly so you don't miss important bits of the song, far better that than talking OVER the song and missing bits, which drives me crazy because half the time the question they're asking/confusion they're feeling is answered/explained in the bit they missed because they were talking over it!!
