I reminisce about the jam culture we had back in my youth, and I think we're losing this communal aspect of playing music!

It’s heartwarming to see Beez get some airplay on youtube! I first got to know beez back when he was still in roxy hotel. He did my first string change. He gave me my first fist bump. He was the first person who made my jaw drop with a whopping 2.5 tone string bend. 14 years later, I still regular go to beez for my strat and tele set-ups, and for any silly wiring ideas i have. Thank you for introducing everyone to such a legend!

The living legend needs to be honoured more! He taught me my first power chord, my first pentatonic scale (when he was still at Yamaha Plaza Sing). He’s inspired generations I’d say!

I rarely play in churches anymore. I play regular places and venues when I get the opportunity.

Non-church gigs can be more fun!

@@AllAboutWorshipGuitar they mean lots of less stress than church gigs if passive aggressive ppl are involved. I do write gospel songs and hymns but on my own terms.

Oh yeah. Those kinds of folks are everywhere though, both in and out of church. Worse in church because we’re expected to be nice about it even when we’re on the receiving end.

@@AllAboutWorshipGuitar very true. I have been leading worship and what works best IMHO is to focus only on The Cross and the victory of Christ first. Not on “we praise you, we do this” because that we can get too after The Cross has been raised properly.

I don't "play in public" outside of church but that's the most demanding thing anyhow so it's ok

I've had beer chucked at me before at a gig, so church congregation is great by comparison, haha!

Short answer is no. We don't have regular jam sessions. I play lead electric guitar, and some of our other members are retired and older. I wish we had regular jam sessions, but I get the sense that playing for some of them is more of an obligation than having fun. I get this by after we go through a set, they are quick to pack up, but I'm still playing with the younger players for a bit. Our Worship Leader is very torn between us younger and older players.

I can relate to that. Even some of the younger players are becoming like that (it feels like some can’t wait to put the instrument down?!) Sounds good that you’re spending time with your younger players. Gotta inspire them while they’re still young!

This was going to be a huge rant on my part.. I will just say, I've been forced to play to backing tracks and it makes me super sad...

The Almighty Multitracks has come for your team! Are they purchased ones, or ones your team has recorded themselves? Somehow it’s less problematic if it’s your own recording, speaking from experience.

@@AllAboutWorshipGuitar I wish it was the multitrack phenom - it's just people just don't want to get together and jam. They are tired, or work, or whatever. It's always an excuse. When you are old as I am (50) you are always tired, got kids, work, etc. But you have to make the time. Music takes time... Come on man! LOL I didn't want to go on a rant LOL

Funny you say shoving bible down people's throats.... When we ha e jam sessions it seems to be all the band 'leaders' do. Play the same song as on a regular Sunday.... I mean I get it, spreading gospel and all.... But sometimes people just want to play music.

I feel you. I think playing the same songs as Sunday is ok if that was clearly communicated for the jam night. If not, it can be a little disingenuous.
