Babymetal isn't AC/DC, we're not going to get a dozen albums of the same sound. They change. They even told us - the Metal Resistance is over, time for a new resistance. And went on hiatus. I was really expecting a different sound, and we have it. One of the great things about Babymetal is they challenge you as a listener. It's not just sit back and listen all the time, it's also actively listen and dig in. And while people say the song isn't heavy, it isn't a heavy arrangement, but it is their heaviest song thematically

You guys start to making me blush lol In regards DA - Shingeki, when looking for more connections with that WW2 tragic event i remember about the "kamikaze" (divine wind) airplanes from Japanese military forces also known officially as *"Divine* Special *Attack* Unit", yep I was 🤯 I said this on your last stream with Eric but just in case you missed it here's again, but like you said we can go on and on finding and having fun with more of this extrapolating the metaphors and whatnot, so like you said is open to interpretation and until the author makes a clear statement about the meaning then we can keep exploring and share our theories, we'll see if that fits on the new metalverse they created. Btw you need to check it out No Rain No Rainbow live at Legend S 2017 to find another homage to Hiroshima in the kamishibai or narrated intro.🦊🤘🌈

It sounds to me like a fusion of Metal and Vocaloid. I've been playing Project Sekai it's a rythm game with Vocaloid music. I had it on autoplay and I thought it was a song from Project Sekai. Some of the songs sound a lot like that. Like this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2Ii7UBMxWVw.html But I don't even think that is the best example.

I realized what this song is. It's a fusion of Metal and Vocaloid. Su has always sounded a lot like Hatsune Miku. You could put this song as is on Project Sekai and it wouldn't be out of place. It's not Vocaloid, but it's halfway there. Here is the top fan rated song on Project Sekai. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2Ii7UBMxWVw.html I don't think it's hugely different.

First off... still listening to the song obsessively. It is ridiculously good and ridiculously weird in it's own right. But... as for the Ragnorok reference... Su literally says Ragnorok. The Japanese lyric is ラグナロクの黄昏に which in romanji is Ragunaroku no tasogare ni.

If Babymetal were to tour with an all female backing band (Megitsune Band?) which combination of musicians would you want to see in that band, they don't necessarily need to be Japanese either

When i first listened to this, I was a a bit Meh! Too Radio friendly. The more I listen and understand the lyrics, the more I have fallen in love with this track! The new album is supposed to visit 10 metalverses, one for each track. For me, the Monochrome Firework, is the bomb that devastated Su's home of Hiroshima! The tree, in the video symbolises, "Yggdrasil, in Norse cosmology, is an immense and central sacred tree. Around it exists all else, including the Nine Worlds." The lyric video also mentions Ragnarok "In Norse mythology, Ragnarök is a series of events, including a great battle, foretelling the death of numerous great figures , natural disasters, and the submersion of the world in water. After these events, the world will rise again, cleansed and fertile, the surviving and returning gods will meet and the world will be repopulated by two human survivors." I think that fits with the final imagery, of the the video, where we go from the Black Rain, of a nuclear explosion, to the colourful hope of the future.

This was cool. Babymetal have always just about left their songs lyrics very vague. So that it is up to the listener to interpret. Makes it personal to the listener. For me that makes it better for each listener. This song makes big connections between Ragnarök and Hiroshima. The story of Ragnarök is about the final war between evil and the gods like Thor. In the story two humans are hidden in a tree and somehow survive the war. They build a better world after the war. They make a great connection with Hiroshima and how that had to feel like the end of the world as well. When the atomic bomb dropped it's said it washed away the color of the world making everything monochrome. The songs tittle. Just like the story of Ragnarök there is a tree and survivors. I would say they have built a better world for themselves afterwards. This is some really great lyric writing and storytelling for the song. When Babymetal first started touring they told the story of the Fox gods chosen one who would bring light back to the world. Bringing hope to the metal music world at least since it was fading away in Japan at the time. This is clearly Koba's hope for Babymetal. The chosen one is of course Su-metal. Along with her kawaii angels Yui and Moa they would form Babymetal and bring a kawaii metal to the world making it better. For me the Babymetal positive message from the start is still there. And the mix of music genres is still there. The only things that have changed is their voices. Getting older will do that to you. IMO its only made them better. They can now do even more adult like topics like this song. A song about having hope in the face of the end of the world would be a lot for 12-year old's to be singing about. But even if you didn't know about Hiroshima or the Norse mythos you could still take this song and find hope. As she's singing about a bleak devastated world. With all the tragedy that's happened in the last few years. I would say many can related to that. And the hope for a better tomorrow. Which for many Babymetal has helped to bring. Babymetal is truly the light of the metal world. I hope that never changes. Babymetal everthing you want in music and somethings you didn't know you needed. Kitsune's UP 🤘🦊

Great discussion! When I first heard this song, I remembered that BABYMETAL's last overseas concert was in Moscow. And I was very worried about the current situation of the Russian fans who came to see the show. And somehow I felt that they must be worried too. At least Hiroshima is colorful now.

You have to hand it to Koba he definitely knows how to get the attention of the fan base, I am hoping the Bluray that comes with the FC edition has some clues to what their intentions were with the album, but it is fun speculating. I wonder if there will be a stream of the January concerts, I would happily pay for that

Excellent discussion! Whatever the implication of the lyrics is, I believe this song goes well with forthcoming tour partner, Sabaton, whose themes are battles and sorrow incidental to warfare. Speaking of A-bomb, I like Wave's interpretation. I know many people see some relation between this song and the horrible event in Hiroshima. I know Legend-S concert included the theme relating to disaster and tragedies caused by the bomb and NRNR clearly meant it. Legend-S was the concert in Hiroshima, after all. I am now, however, wondering current BABYMETAL has come up with this theme again because TOO suggests something in the other world. And the single tree that stands last does not look like "Aogiri アオギリ" the symbol of hope after the disaster. Aogiri has straight trunk, not twisted like the one in the video. In addition, the message of "Monochrome" says "When all are asleep, light and color vanish from the world." It does not match with bombing time in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, (08:15 AM & 11:02 AM). BM's song implies various things whether on specific purpose or not. Fans have to think over anything BM present. That is one of enjoyment to be a part of their fandom. Anyway the theme "Death and Rebirth" is underlying like an abyssal circulation in BABYMETAL stories. It surfaces from time to time. Thanks from Japan.

I agree with you. Their new artistic orientation is perfectly suited to the association with Sabaton. But isn't the risk for Babymetal to lose their kawai and optimistic profile in favor of a dark and cold look that does not invite to dance and party? What I mean is that we want to believe in a happy tomorrow more than to hear dark songs that remind us how sad the world is today. I know, it's the reality. But we all need to dream of a better world. IMO.

@@Kissthetoad321 You are right. There is such a risk that expel Kawaii element from BM. All of the snippets of the songs and messages attached to the songs in TOO do not make me smile. On the contrary, some of them include a kind of dark mood (I don't hate it though). They might be doing so intentionally in order that BM can graduate to next level, which was suggested in the 3rd album. (For example, Kagerou includes seductive element by grown-up ladies). We may see not even a "next" level but "totally different" level in parallel worlds presented by TOO. It is something like they showed us during the Dark Side era. Koba suggested similar thing in his book "10 BABYMETAL Legends" saying - While BM we had looked at was light side, there should have been a dark side BM existed in another world which we did not know. In this parallel world story, there should not be any bias something like either towards "Baby" or "Metal". [page 97-98] - In any case, TOO presents 10 songs only. BM performs at least 13 songs in the concerts. So I believe I can enjoy happy element in 2-day shows in January.

@@flugelhornoldman1362 It's certain. They also had a dark (Onedaridaisakusen, Sis Anger) or sad (No rain, no rainbow and others) side which was part of their attractiveness too. I agree, we only know two songs from their new album and the others may not have this darkness. I would still like to see Babymetal in a real video like Karate. And not those arts works that make them invisible. Two months waiting for their return and seeing them on stage is a very long time.
